Having discovered Albert only by chance about four years ago, when I saw him in concert, I'm so grateful that I did. Albert was able, willing and able to rock and roll all night. He was awesome, and still is. Peace. Out.
I've actually lost count of the number of times I've seen Albert perform live. It's somewhere between 12 and 15, if memory serves. He once signed a cassette tape cover of mine (cassette tape cover; that's old!) during a masterclass he delivered supporting the album 'Gagged But Not Bound' and he's the sweetest, most unassuming virtuoso I've ever encountered. Zero ego and a complete gentleman.
Good hearing your story..I only saw him THIS YEAR, 1st time..only because I didn't get familiar w/him before this! I hope to see him again.. & the band..quality!
Yes, I met him once, and he's a very pleasant man. I sure like the idea of that Masterclass ! His solo show was incredible and I saw him twice with The Everly Brothers !!
I always had Albert down as a session / backing musician . Didn’t realise how as a singer and performer his style seems so effortless yet top draw . Only wish I possessed an ounce of his talent and humility. Count me IN . Great band by the way !
I saw Albert in Carlisle about 20 years ago when he was with Hogans heroes, and about four years ago when he toured with this band at The Old Fire Station in Carlisle, (Probably part of this tour) Ollie Sears on drums had just joined them. There is no better country / rock guitarist on planet earth.
@@chrisneale667 yeah I was there at the Sands venue too......The legendary Buddy Emmons was with them on Pedal steel guitar. Duane Eddy was also touring with them . Great line up.

My wife and I saw Albert Lee in a small venue in Portland Maine last week. He is in deed a player's player. J.T. Thomas, who plays here, was also sensational on keyboards. A humble virtuoso, who was also funny, entertaining, and held nothing back even though the full-house was 120 people max. If you get a chance to see this guy, go. You'll leave happy ... and singing.
Do you think this editor can show more than 4 seconds of Alberts hands at a time during his solos??sure genious, everyone wants to see the rhythm players during this virtuoso’s highlights. Great as always Albert!
yes, camera people, and or editors appear to know less than nothing about music. can't even show two hands on a solo. Been going on for decades, hendrix etc. wonder if there are old reels of the music stored somewhere? They do have that attention deficit disorder of 1-4 seconds max.
Still going strong even 4 years ago they last I heard was he still going strong but he needed to got his teeth done because that Gould gets him going again the guitar is he born with
How does he still do it ? I think he's actually better now than what he was 25 years ago , he doesn't play quite as lightning fast as he did 25 years ago but he never plays the same thing twice , listen to him play on the advanced country guitar and advanced virtuoso techniques session , that was rediculously fast accurate music picking , Albert isolating better than ever in 2018 ,
there is Albert Lee playing guitar and there are all the others I think the only ones to push it up to him would be mason or paisley maybe James Burton .although Ricky Skaggs is a ferocious player too

Basically, it's both. Country and early Rock & Roll developed simultaneously, and from many of the same influences, and Albert Lee has roots in both styles, and it's reflected in his playing. He's long been a Nashville (i.e. "country") session ace, as well as having worked with numerous rock acts (Clapton, John Fogerty, etc.). This could be termed "Country-Rock", which is an actual musical genre (though it can also span a wide range of styles).
@@markrodgers2976 Thanks! That's what I was thinking but it's almost heresy nowadays to say that rock 'n roll came out of country and not blues/rhythm and blues. But clearly whereas the blues uses the minor pentatonic, country and rock and roll uses the major. Country -> Rockabilly -> Rock n roll -> Rock/Pop.

Mark wilkins, Albert does actually say Richard Thompson, not "Ritchie", if you listen closely. However, he flubbed the lyrics a little bit, it's supposed to go "well I like coffee and I like tea/ but I just don't like this *affinity*. Not " fiddly-dee" as Albert sang it. It was a serviceable version, but definitely not as fiery as when Richard does it. BTW, my wife and I saw Albert play with this same band a couple of years ago.

By the way, it occurred to me to wonder if Richard, as a Sufi Muslim, even drinks coffee or tea, as they are generally considered to be psychoactive substances. I looked it up, and surprise surprise, historically the drinking of coffee originated with Sufi Muslim monks. Whether Richard actually drinks them is another matter (I am sitting here with a cuppa joe as I write this).
