    My admiration for you and Jo just grows with episodes like this, well done guys that was incredible teamwork 👏

    Good work both of you! sounds like getting one of those "portable mains battery banks" which are all over youtube might be a good shout, would let you run magdrill and other corded tools whereever you are on the farm, even up in the air!

    • @protectiongeek
      @protectiongeek Місяць тому +1

      That is likely to be a very expensive mistake, unfortunately. These portable 'power stations' are stupidly expensive and very unlikely to be able to deal with the starting currents drawn by corded drills. Besides, the use of 230V equipment on construction sites is NOT recommended for electrical safety reasons!
      If corded tools are required, then they should be 110V and fed from a centre-tap earthed (CTE) transformer. Many construction sites these days won't even countenance 110V tools, insisting on battery-powered tools only unless corded is the only option (and then after a risk assessment and method statement from a competent person).

    Do not apologize for your hat. It is spot on. Sun protection is very important. Yea the galvanic corrosion can be a big deal with three different types of metal. Stainless, Aluminum and Steel. Not good. I would changed that.

    I find it's worth sharpening bigger drill bits right out the box. They don't last much longer but they go through the steel much quicker. Then I give them a quick sharpen every few holes. Ever so easy to do on the big bits.
    When I was an apprentice way back when, our instructor would grind the tip flat and make us regrind and hone a new cutting tip.

    Galvanic corrosion is what you need research I think. Dissimilar metals, but I seem to recall you only get it with certain combinations

    i drilled about 80 13mm holes through train track, what you need (if not a mag drill) is high cobalt bits. anything else is a waste of time. i used stroton bits from amazon, about 8 quid a piece and good for about 30 holes each. use a quick clamp on the back of your drill to make a mobile drill press. .... but yeah in hindsight just get a mag drill!

    JCB makes a lovely little tracked hybrid skid steer with a telehandler arm works a treat… perhaps not for getting 30 feet into the air, but certainly excellent for all manner of digging/leveling/dumping/forklifting/man-basketing tasks.

    Good teamwork! All drills can be sharpened, but coated drills will obviously loose their coating. If you were nearer, I would sharpen them for you (West Devon). Cobalt drills will be better as others have said.😊👍

    Galvanic corrosion can occur if not matching fixings used. Also incidents of stress corrosion cracking on stainless steel fixings within swimming pools caused by the chlorine and heat.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  Місяць тому +2

      Yeah that's as I thought, need. to swap them out this week I'll stick with the non stainless everywhere. and then continue with the special order paint for corrosive environments like the pool.

    I’m thinking worst case scenario, if person couldn’t for some reason operate the telehandler do you have a means to exit the basket. In other words a length of rope to climb down to the ground.

  • @denty32

    You need to wear a harness in those . It's law. The fines are huge.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  Місяць тому

      Not the case from what I can see, HSE specifies harness only if leaning outside of the basket on a loader, which I had no intention of doing. 😬 Probably different with the cherry picker as that needs the harness to activate the controls.
