They put great drummers, in a great sounding room with great sounding drums and cymbals. Pretty difficult to mess up the mix at that point.
Buttery smooth playing style and cymbal sound. The snare must be haunted with all those ghost notes
I have to note that I like the sound of the snare drum here much better than on the album version. A well-processed live drum is more interesting than an overcompressed sample

Such a creative guy, he's technical but also has a "less is more approach".
One of my fav things about every member of this band.
His ghost notes are so tasty
He almost dont use double pedal and tesseracr still sound heavy and groovy. I also prefer a more melodic aproach on vocals and music than extreme metal.

seriouisly, what are those pattern in the kick drum?? Crazy stuff, Tesseract put accents on very places. Very hard to follow.

For real. Love how the vocals are so crucial to their sound, but not the star of the show. Dan fits in right along the rest.
interesting. They released their first two albums as instrumental versions as well and years ago, when they became my favourite metal band, I listened to those instrumentals more often than the normal versions with vocals. I still enjoy the vocals nonetheless. 👌
I'm a bit put off they removed the vocals from this tbh, such a crucial part of the song. Takes a slow burn idea like the verse in this tune and gives it some variety to listen to the syncopation through
personally i like that I can hear every nuance of the drums... This performance video is to showcase his new cymbals ultimately, i enjoy that I can hear those little nuances.. Sometimes vocals can hide certain ghost notes or subtleness i might have missed

While 'Sonder' is a great album, there are other songs out there that would've been better to showcase Jay's skill and talent, imo!
Flashier perhaps, but he stated himself the main groove of this song is one of the biggest pains to pull off in a satisfying and smooth manner across their whole discography. A lot of those other songs have live playthroughs or studio videos already as well.
This song is a masterclass in the “less is more” approach all while still showcasing displacement/tasteful pauses without breaking up the main groove
