Hands down my favorite drummer. The guy that is the nastiest but is so controlled and cool that he makes it look easy. I wish I could stay in like he does. I'll keep trying.
Going back to non-programmed drums was the move, it creates this human feel and groove, this albums drums I've felt like I could truly get into and really groove with it because it sounds so real.
Yea u can tell. Lol. But maybe they all recorded their parts at their homes to save money. And depending on Jay's living space, maybe the cops would of came a few times if he recorded w/ real drums. 😂
Jay Ghostones, Marco Minnemann & Matt Garstka. My Current Drummers-Trio. It is Mind-blowing how Jay's muscle memory is incomprehensibly precise. Pure talent. Big up!
So glad y'all switched back to recording live drums for this record! Jay, you're such a talented performer, and those subtleties in your ghosting especially come thru all across War of Being in such a special way 🖤
@@zoedoesmusic4520 NOOOO!! My life is a lie. I thought that Altered State was the only programmed record-and I only discovered that several years ago. You know, from the first time I heard Sonder, I noticed that the china was panned weird. You can really notice it at the beginning of King. I ask myself every time why the hell it would be coming from the same side as the pedal hat because Jay does not use a china on that side but it all finally makes sense now if the drum kit they were using had one there!😂 Could it have perhaps been a drum kit Tomas Haake sampled for Toontrack? It would have certainly had a china on the left hand side and Sabian samples to correspond with Jay’s former endorsement🤔 I’ve got a long subway ride today so I’m going to give Polaris and Sonder a spin and they are going to sound like completely different records now.
not completely programmed recordings if i'm not mistaken, they used toontrack drummer to recieve the midi from Jay's electric drum kit and customised the inputs so that it would record as close as possible to a live recording, programming it in would take an unbelievable amount of effort, I agree though, live recorded drums better
Unreal, what makes this so good for me is that it's the most human (while still perfectly executing) this chap has ever made a performance look, a testament to how hard TesseracTs music must be to play and how the drum parts are written to serve the music regardless of a person's ability to play them. You can see (in the best possible way) the points where Jay needs to fight his hands and wrestle them into playing the notes where they are meant to go. It isn't all easy plain sailing for the dudes at this level, absolute graft. Loved it
100% - this take was just after we’d recorded the track, and since then I’ve gotten more familiar with it (when I recorded it for the Meinl vid for example). The footage from the studio sessions looks and sounds so lush.m though, I had to share some
Amazing drum parts, you’re an outstanding composer, Jay. I also love the work that you guys put into the image of the video as well! Such a pleasure to watch.
@@King-Gilamashur2758 You should never compare yourself to other people . by all means, appreciate the talent and its ok to envy.. But dont limit yourself on other peoples ability! Get a drum kit and enjoy it ✌✌
THE MAD MAN PULLED THROUGH WITH THE FULL PLAYTHROUGH! Soooo sick, Jay 😄 Thanks for this, and It's also fun to see a playthrough from one of the songs that wasnt a single from the album 🥁
I appreciate that it’s an unedited 1-take. Lots of covers/play throughs are heavily produced (which is ok), but it makes it hard to remember what a real performance looks and sounds like. I think that’s especially helpful for musicians trying to improve using online tools (like me) since it sets a more realistic baseline to work towards. I tend to be perfectionist, so any take with the slightest mistake will be hyper analyzed and it can be discouraging, so this helps offset that kind of thinking. Cheers!
Mistakes are a 'no' but a human performance that isn't 100% on the grid is perfectly acceptable. If you listen to the ablum carefully, the snares for example aren't always huge... becuase I'm a human and I hit differently each time. You'll especially notice this in songs like Tender and Sirens
Best ad I've seen for the band and new album. I'm a drummer so maybe that's with this ended up in my feed. I will be purchasing, and nice job my friend!
Such an ease!! Best metal drummer in the world right now, no one even close. Can't wait to experience Jay & Co live for the first time in a couple of weeks!!
Amazing drumming!! I just think there's a tiny cut on the toms and they don't get heard at 3:40, I'm guessing this is because a manual cut got bad or a gate that didn't open
I really hope you guys add this to the live setlist, an unbelievable closer to an unforgettable album. Incredible playing as always

You can't be this frigging good Jay, it should be illegal to be this good.
The police have been informed

which album had programmed drums?
@@alejocore1995 I had read that altered state to sonder was programmed they said it on their twitch I think

what about II from Sleep Token? he's pretty good as well
@@omolon-scout-rifleII es awesome ❤
Kit sounds unreal! Saw Tesseract live in Birmingham not long ago, one of the best gigs I've ever been to, sounded great, super tight.
Same! Even had VIP tickets and got to meet the guys 😄
Serious chills. Incredible music, incredible drumming.
An abolute legend. You leave imprints on the legacy of drumming with every groove and fill.
My favorite track of the new record - and this performance is just godly. The feel, groove and emotion in the drumming....just sublime
3:39 - heeey, bring back the toms... i see them, but can not hear )

That section at 3:06 with the weird stack pattern will never stop blowing my mind. It hurts my head in a good way
I loved War Of Being since the first listen, but man, the album grew so much more on me as time went by. It's currently my favorite Tesseract album.
Yeah, it's a masterpiece. I'm in awe listen after listen, it doesn't lose the sense of amazement.

That might be something we all want to see 😊
Looking forward to seeing you guys in Singapore !
Love this tune so much saw them live 6 months ago what a night!
Always mesmerising to watch you play, man. The grooves in Sacrifice, Burden, and Legion really made an impression on me 😁
This is what we all wanted!!
Goddamn, this mix is orgasmic... that snare sound 😍
bass drum is all tucked in for a nice nap :)
Mine is too lol. Really helps isolate bass drum in mix and reduces low frequencies for loved ones sharing the same space.😅
This made me laugh a little too much lol

Thanks for this jay. Legion and Sacrifice are just the best.
I never get tired of watching your play through vids. Excellent performance, as always. 🤟🏻
Such an incredibly tight drummer. Damn, Super envious of how talentedly clean Jay is..
Really makes me want to buy a kit again and practice!

What a joy to watch… again. It never gets old, I’m just as blown away the tenth time I watch as the first on all Jay’s playthroughs.
Love watching you play man. So elegant and powerful.
I like to imagine you're at grandma's house, and she just asked you to show her what you've been learning on your drum set.
What a king!
i dont know if i have ever seen better holds and cymbal playing...not to mention the cymbal set up on the kit! I am blown away!!!!

One of the most slept on songs on the new album I feel. It was a pleasure meeting you guys at the Tampa show last year!
Such a fan of your cymbals selections my guy. Perfect for this music.
Just saw him at the Paradise Club in Boston, Ma. What a treat, just so good. I hope that Tesseract continue to create music and tour more in the USA!
Jay, you’re the fucking best dude. Such a pleasure and inspiration to watch and listen to you share your gift.
That was an instant like from me. I absolutely love this song, and hearing a 'human' performance has given me the chills
Jay just pushes his kit right up to the Meinl section of the cymbal wall in the dum department at the music shop.
Killer performance! Solid drumming and great audio production!
Perfect drumming as always! Love the nosepicking at the end. Haha 6:40

That was bone chillingly great. Absolute killer on the kit. Good lord 💪🏽 well done!
This is one of my favorite songs. Can't wait to see you in Bangkok 🔥
I can't believe I never noticed at 2:36 the guitars do a bendy drop and I must have listened to this song at least 50 times
You da man, Jay!
I absolutely love your playing, Jay. You compliment the rest of the music perfectly.
So good dude!

Absolute focus.
Incredible drummer & performance. Why 2nd tom doesn't sound in some fills? 3:39 for example.
I probably didn’t hit it hard enough
this song is just so so so good
Learning that bass groove/snare syncopation at 3:06 must’ve taken weeks 😵 My brain would be actively fighting with my body on that one

Every time I listen to this song it feels like it goes by too fast. You guys are geniuses.
Thanks a bunch for uploading this! Had been wondering for ages what you actually do at ~1:23

That... SNARE!!!
Fuck yeah man!!! You are amazing!!! Just the best! Congrats
I love your drumming dude ❤
Thank you!!!!
Wow😮
The dryness of the hats. The punch of the snare. Sharp and dark cymbals. All being driven by ridiculous skill. I love it.
Do Legion next! I can't find a drum performance of that anywhere and it's an awesome song!
The perfect drummer does exist.
Was this taped & recorded in Nashville?

I find so funny he hated the fill near the end but everyone else convinced him to keep it like that
to quote DT, "an immense fill"
