A masterful job by the ref who kept the fighter who got knocked out from taking more damage, and caught her head from hitting the floor as he dropped to the mat with her. Awesome work in helping to lessen injury.

Maybe I’m losing it in my old age but I enjoy a good fight…BUT…having watched many of these bouts I’m impressed by some of the referees going out there to protect an obviously injured contestant . There’s no need to beat someone who’s heading for the mat. Sometimes the referee is so involved in deflecting the victors charge that the vanquished is smashing their skull on the canvas. Maybe there’s room for a referee and a “spotter” in this sport. I think so.

it's not a hard mat, made of lite canvas. Like tent material but stretched and very strong. No smashing except from fist, feet and elbows.

It's the Refs job to protect someone unfit to fight, not the opponent. They get paid to try to beat each other to death.

My favorite was the japan fight 38:48 but they stopped it too soon, Also I think they really should eliminate certain strikes like spinning back fists/elbows , knees to the head , and pointed toe forward front kicks that act like a blunt knife stab to the stomach . You can really see the pain on those pointed kicks on the opps face, a side foot clean kick to the face or mid sect. does the trick just fine No need to do internal organ damage. And the spinning back elbows and fists can do serious damage as they create a bone on bone strike that can litterally kill a person.

Strikes, i.e. hammer fists, to an obviously defenseless opponent should also not be allowed. Instead, boxing rules should apply to all knock downs. I understand MMA's intended appeal to the morbid curiosity and blood lust of many fans, but It's only a matter of time before a fighter does't wake up.

The referee for the fight at 3:45 is an absolutely moron. Not only should he of stopped the fight before that final punch was thrown do to the girl obviously not being able to defend her.
But once he finally did stop the fight the idiot was for whatever reason completely obsessed with the winner instead of tending to the loser who had just been TKO'd. What in the hell was he doing?

I love MMA. But have always hated how they pound a defenseless opponent with a knockout. There have been so many who refuse to do it, that the ones who do can make little excuse for being that heartless. And for anyone who says I don't understand, I competed for five good years and I could tell the difference between a knock down and a knock out. When the person was out I'd jump on top in case, but always took that second to make sure it wasn't necessary.

when an opponent goes down, it should be an automatic disqualification to beat the face of the fighter who just hit the mat. I don't know what that's about, but when a knock out shot is delivered, the fighter goes down, you stop, period. that going in for the kill is absolutely unacceptable.

many studies about CTE. Just google it. Research was result of studies on NFL players from the 1960-70's who were developing dementia. There is a documentary about the original player, an offensive lineman, who they conducted the research, and he also donated his brain after he died for further studies.
Yeah…. They’ve studied it in the NFL, NHL, Boxing, MMA, Skateboarding, BMX, etc …. Leads to decreased motor sensory abilities, early notes of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Demential, diminished ability to retain short term memory functions, psycho-motor interactions, s0uicidal thoughts or actions, aggression, etc. Theres been quite a few former NFL players who have donated their brains to this research upon their deaths, or have pledged their brains to this cause upon their future deaths. I forget who it was, but years ago, there was a former NFL player who unalived himself by sh00ting himself in the heart so that his brain tissues would be kept intact for research. He was suffering from several of the above conditions due to his NFL career
