My grandparents were from South Carolina "Geechie", and oxtails stew was a favorite growing up in VA. Oxtails is an African American staple food going back to our roots.
I have cook oxtail 4 or 5 times with red beans and dirty rice on my offset smoker and I usually add 1/4 cup of Jamaican rum to my brine read Vidalia onion red green and yellow bell pepper very thinly sliced along with beef gravy along with my beef broth yours looks really good everyone that has tried mine says that they are incredible fixing to fire up my smoker again and cook something for myself because I haven't had a chance to taste them yet also going to throw on 4 Racks of ribs
Those oxtails look delicious! I’ve eaten them before and they are delicious, but I would’ve never thought about throwing them on the grill. I’ve got to try these. Thank y’all for another delicious looking recipe!
Guess I missed it…., what Temp. did you smoke them at before you wrapped them. I think you turned up the heat to around 300/315 degrees AFTER you wrapped them. Also….., what was your total cook time? THANKS!!!💪🏼😋
Nice shout out to big les! I'm giving it a go tomorrow.. although I'm working with less.. I'm a beginner.. but I just love how these guys are such pros.. wish me luck
Thanks for the recipe, it is a great idea. I am going to try smoking oxtails on my WSM. It would be much easier to do the braising part in the oven though. I will do the braise in the oven, probably in a cast iron braising pan and brown the onions a bit before adding the oxtails and broth.
I've never cooked oxtails before; but I've eatn them before...They are really good... B & B products are phenomenal...When using lump charcoal; I've used it by itself r sometimes I like to mix lump & briquettes together...
You did a great job. But here's a tip, put about 2 oz of barbeque sauce in with you beef broth. Any barbeque sauce will do. Also cut some green, red bell peppers, and carrots. Serve them over rice. Try it and I think you and you family will love them.
I'm a retired ships captain with 33 years at sea, whenever we had a gulf coast crew my favorite was usually on the menu once or twice a month and it was oxtails. I made some a year ago and they came out fabulous but I paid 15 bucks a pound for them here in New england. Malcolm Reed does a great recipe for a braise on BBQ Right involving lots of vegetables and spices, they came out phenomenal. Thanks for the video! Cheers!
I’ll definitely have to give these a try, have never cooked them. They look awesome. I’ve also been experimenting with mesquite wood lately. Not as harsh as one would think, but I never use more than one.
I haven't smoked them yet but my Lithuanian side of the family has been using them for oxtail soup for generations. Will try smoking them one day because it's just to good a cut of meat to not try it. Those looked freaking fantastic, nice cook!
Great video, I noticed you started the fire near the holes and not the middle, does it make a difference. I tried your method the other week but from the middle and it worked amazing. Really consistent temp and easy to adjust temp with only one dial not 3.
Thank you! I like starting toward one vent because it allows me to manipulate the fire exactly how I want! But if throwing it right in middle is giving you results, keep doing it!!
I wish I had more right now! How do y’all cook Oxtails?!
Jamaican style, must try this when I get some property and a smoker.
Jamaican?? Tell me more!
@@GulfCoastSmoke one of my favorites ua-cam.com/video/ajfA8eIx8rA/v-deo.html he’s not Jamaican but I love his videos and he cooked it well
Sop buntut. It's Indonesian and the best way I've ever had them

I appreciate you, brotha!
Of tail almost 10$ a pound in Oklahoma, not enough meat to justify the cost.
Damn, that looks good! I just did oxtails for the first time last night.
How long did you smoke it for , 2 hours smoke and 2 hours wrapped and 1 rest
For a first time oxtail smoker, what temp should I look for internally

@lesbbq inspired me to try to make these. Thanks for the video.
Can we buy them from you for Les than $150 sum for 3lbs? Les BBQ got them tails for power ball winners. 😂😂😂
Recommendation: Season “inside”. Good video otherwise 👍
I'm sorry I couldn't finish watching the video. The flies was nasty work.
Ive read that those little metal clips throw the heat temp off a lot cause they heat up themselves. I stick my probes threw a cut potato or onion
Never had an issue with it and have tested them a lot! But whatever works for you, that’s cool too
Yummmm🐷🐷🐷🐷
Everybody trying to copy les.....know you probably don't even eat ox tails 😂😂😂😂😂
I’ve made them before a few times! Did you not hear how I literally said that he inspired me to cook them again and shout out to Les?!
