    Agree. For the track the pista is better. For the road the Xspirit is better. Overall I like the pista more because of its design.

      We absolutely agree. It depends on the purpose it should serve. On the track the pista behaves better. Do you have a Pista or Xspirit and why?

    The best way you can tell that the Pista and Corsa are designed for track is based on the visor mechanism. Shoei's detents allow the visor to be opened at varying degrees, whilst the AGV only has fully open (not advised to ride >20mph with it in the fully open position), closed, and cracked open (with the latch resting on the closure mechanism) which on the track, is unless it's a very wet day and you're doing pit lane speeds, is irrelevant.
    I also found that constantly opening and closing the visor with the pinlock installed has severely compromised the pinlock insert since the eyeport gasket snags on the seal of the maxvision. No amount of adjusting the eccentric cam will pull the insert close to the visor. I remedied it by sticking sellotape on the top and bottom of the pinlock. Again, this is another sign that the visor is meantt to be found in the fully closed position most of the time.
    In terms of visor opening track/path, Arai's VAS gives enough clearance so as not to foul the pinlock, whilst Shoei's sprung loaded visor does basically the same thing. AGV is so damn tight that you're bound to catch the upper edge of your visor against any protrusion on the eye port.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  5 років тому

      Thanks for sharing your experience! That's a shame about the AGV and the pinlock and one would expect better from such an expensive helmet, but, like you said, it's definitely showing its purely racing focus. What do you think of the Shoei X-Spirit III compared to the AGV?

      @@Championhelmets Shoei is quieter and better ventilated in both summer and winter. I bought the AGV to replace my 5 year old RX-GP. Had the AGV for 6 months before I grew tired of it for road riding. Bagged a RX7V for road duties which I liked, but found was heavier than the RX-GP. A year later, got the XSpirit III and loved it

    I prefer the agv... as the shoei seems to cramp my neck... the shoei takes effort to keep it pointed forward. The shoei tends to be turned sideways in the wind.

  • @CICaroundtheWorld
    @CICaroundtheWorld 5 років тому +1

    Thanks for the video, really great comments! Question regarding the last topic - compromises with the AGV. Could you elaborate furthermore on what would these compromises be off the track? (apart from the ventilation and less elaborated visor mechanism). The AGV has a wider visor and a harder shell that would make it safer than the Shoei. I currently own a Shoei GT Air, big fan of the brand but I was looking to upgrade it

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  5 років тому +1

      The Pista GP R can perfectly be worn on the road, no doubts about it. The Pista GP R is louder on noise but this is of less importance, seen the fact that you can wear the ear plugs that come included in the box.. The Shoei X Spirit 3 is sportier than the GT Air, and is a great alternative for the AGV Pista GP R if you want to spend a little less. The AGV Pista GP R is lighter, looks better in my opinion, but that comes with a higher price tag. If you have the budget for it and you can appreciate a true sports helmet, the AGV Pista GP R is a great pick. I would say that the Shoei X Spirit 3 would be the best alternative for the Pista GP R. Does this help?

    The AGV rear spoiler looks awful and cheap in comparing to the Shoei Helmet. Also, the AGV is overpriced. The Shoei is the winner in almost every aspect.

    I’ve got the Pista GPR. No logic to making that purchase. It was done on emotion. The Italians sell all of their products based on this emotion. Also have an Italian bike and Italian made Dianese gear. Doesn’t matter that others do it just as good or better. At least 50% of the gear and bike you buy is because of how you feel on the bike and wearing the gear.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  5 років тому +3

      Hi, that is also a pretty fair comparison but when we look at racing helmets, these are what the riders in the Moto GP use. The X Spirit is first and foremost a racing helmet. The price is certainly comparable but the function matches better between the Pista and X Spirit. That is why we chose to compare these. Have you had a chance to try either of these helmets?

      Tough question. Both have 4 shell sizes, so it really comes down to the style. But both are also very aerodynamic. The X Spirit is slightly taller, but the Pista is slightly longer. Hi, I saw that as well and i'm not sure exactly which size SHARP has listed for their results, which might be a cause for this. We are also talking about a difference of 30 grams which can come down to small variations within the actual helmets, what extras have been added and so on.
      In this video, I took the XL sizes, as they come in the box in order to make it fair. I hope this makes more sense now.
      By the way, have you tried any of these helmets out?

  • @n300zx931

    Should be VS the corsa. The gpr is in a different class.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  5 років тому +1

      Hey there! It's true that the Corsa R is meant to compete more directly with the X-Spirit 3 being about the same price range, but in terms of race helmets both of these are used out on the track making them more similar for performance. Though the GP R has now been replaced by the GP RR as AGV's main race helmet, this is why we originally compared them.

      Champion Helmets even though I don’t like the looks of it I may still want to try .. seems like the only Shoei helmet that works with my head shape as I had tried on a X14 and this one being lighter then it and even lighter then the pista gp r , interests me . I doo own a gp R and like it a lot . I dont see why would need more air flow and venting then the gp r and would keep that top vent on the spirit 3 close to not mess up the aero but wanting to see if it is more comfy inside and more plush with better padding . The Aero of the helmet and the optic clarity and quality of the visor and how it locks in place is awesome , way better then my Arai Corsair V in comparison , though no where near plushness and comfort of the Arai
