    Jon, the 71 with a hole in it...If you were going to be a cad and put a hole through a nice half dollar, wouldn't you do it cleanly? It looks like it was put through with something like a broken off drill bit. And something that I wonder about...is the back and front out of register? NICE hunt!!

    Hey, JD. I’ve never found a silver Kennedy metal detecting, either. By the way, there are 7 years of silver Kennedy’s, not 6 (64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 and 70). Most people just think of 64-69, but 70 is too.

      Hey Jeff. I've never found a 1970 roll hunting, probably because of the low mintage. Would love to find one someday in a roll, as I doubt I'll ever see a 1970 come out of the ground. Let's hope we can both dig up our first 40% in 2024! I'll race ya. lol

    You do know that there are certain dates that you should also be aware of.
    A couple of them are 1982 & 1983 all mints . There are some others but I think that this is something that you should find out on your own. If you do this then you should have a better understanding of Kennedy halves.

    Have an odd question and if it's never been done might make an good video.
    How many ( if its possible ) silver coins in a roll does it take to change the sound on a metal detector if they are all rolled together?
    Also realizing you might have to have the different amounts of silver to maybe make a difference.

    • @JDsVarietyChannel
      @JDsVarietyChannel  7 місяців тому +1

      I don't think the sound would change too much. The clad halves have over 90% copper, with copper having nearly the same conductivity as silver (slightly lower). The small quantity of nickel in them doesn't change the signal too much compared to a silver one either. The rest of the 40% silver halves are copper, and the 90% silver halves also have 10% copper. So all 3 types are highly conductive blends, with the clad one having a small amount of a low conductor. Also, a big signal like that would overload the coil, so getting an accurate reading would be hard to test. And when you have odd shaped, large objects the tones get funky, regardless of what metal they are. If they were all stacked facing upward, giving a pure reading through the stack (which is possible) I don't think the sound would change. Because the sum of all the copper/silver would nearly max out a conductivity reading. I have dug 4 stacked clad quarters before. It supercharges the signal to sound higher, so they have a cumulative effect. Maybe the small amount of nickel could cause a clad stack to sound lower as it offsets, but I think if you mixed them together with silver ones it would all sound the same. Also, the coins at the top near the coil would have the most immediate impact. I know for certain if you stick different coins on the bottom of the roll it won't affect the signal, because the detector won't penetrate the thick metal layer closer to the coil. I may test a silver stack vs. clad stack though. Would be a fun test. May get a different number reading, though both will be near max conductivity. Even with different numbers, on most detectors the audio would be in the same range, so it wouldn't be discernable audibly (except on detectors with an extremely customizable audio spectrum where each number difference can be set to change audio pitch)

      @@JDsVarietyChannel first thanks for the reply and 2nd thanks for the input. It was just a random thought as if you could lay them down and run over them with a metal detector and hear the silver it might save a bunch of time if all's you cared about is the silver but as for checking for the valuable coins like the 1 in this video yes you'd still want to check them all

    • @JDsVarietyChannel
      @JDsVarietyChannel  7 місяців тому

      @@JeRKII 90% silver halves weight over a gram more than the clad ones. You can actually check for those by weighing the rolls. But for the 40% silver the weight is almost the same, so if there was only one in a roll the difference wouldn't be as obvious, as coins can vary slightly by weight.

      @@JDsVarietyChannel good info don't know that I will ever get into the whole country collecting thing but interesting to watch...
      Like winning a lottery it would be awesome to find that 1 coin that is worth huge $ but even though I watch random video's like these I will never remember all the stuff except for maybe the double stamped one's and after this video maybe I remember about the coin you found here

    • @JDsVarietyChannel
      @JDsVarietyChannel  7 місяців тому +1

      Honestly, a lot of the coin tutorial channels are money grabs for views by people who don't even know what they are talking about. Don't get me wrong, there are some good channels too, but a lot are a waste of time. Most people will never find a super rare coin in circulation unless they are people willing to take time and look for rare varieties under a microscope. I don't even do that, as I find is cumbersome and time consuming. It's definitely not for the passive hobbyist. Just keep and eye out for silver, old coins and proof coins, and you'll do fine. I always check my paper money for star notes and fancy serial numbers too, it's easy to do and you don't need any special knowledge to find them.

      @@JDsVarietyChannel , Thanks J.D. this old grandma just likes to do percentages… how many 40%? how many 90%? out of how many in the box. It’s fun to see how much profit you made investing in the bank rolls! Fun detective work.🤑 ha.
      Back in the 70s when I was a bank teller at Bank of America in Southern California, a patron came in who had just celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary. She brought in rolls and rolls of silver coins that she got as gifts for her anniversary. Our operations officer took all the silver coinage, added it up and any teller who wanted to buy out , an equal share was allowed to do so. I for sure bought out my fair share. It was fun. Sadly, years later, my home was burglarized, and it all was stolen.😢 💸💸💸
      I have to tell you another quick story. In 1970, I think it was in February, we had a huge earthquake in SoCalif. when I got to work, the safe deposit vault had popped open. Many of the drawers flew out, and there was money, coins papers all over the safe deposit room floor. My poor operations officer spent the day cataloging everything she found and trying to find the rightful owner. I will never forget seeing all that money and coin on the floor. Now doesn’t that paint an interesting picture? 😂
