Grace thanks so much Grace! How exciting, it is SO beautiful up here. We’re just about to explore Cairns to Cape Tribulation so we can’t wait to show you all of that too! My dress is from Arnhem, definitely a favorite :) - Kendall xx
No worries Vanessa! Thats's a difficult question really. Basically once we left on our trip we had about 35,000AUD but we had already bought Vance for $15,500 and put about $10,000 into him mechanically, plus then of course the build itself. So it's hard to say specifically. You can do it far cheaper, however with the mechanical issues associated with owning an older van, we needed it, and we also didn't want a time limit on our trip so just saved as much as we could. Hope that helps!
Thanks Slim! So its a long story but I'll be quick. Basically we had a rebuild booked in, was going to cost 4-5 thousand. They opened it up, said it was great, replaced the crank shaft and a couple of things, said it would be all good. When they put it back together they couldn't figure out why it wasn't idling properly, and not starting properly. Went down a rabbit hole of ideas, meanwhile we continued to have to pay hotel bills. We kept getting screwed around and they said it was pretty solid after a while. So we took it. A month later we broke down, and the guy we took it to couldn't believe we made it that far. There were so many basic things wrong with it that they. Frustratingly we had already taken it to vintage VW "specialists 5 times in Sydney to prep for this trip, and were given the all clear. Then got the rebuild booked and they completely overlooked the entire fuel system which was the major problem, in particular the air and fuel modulator. Finally also replaced the fuel tank due to corrosion (which again we were told was solid when we got it checked in Sydney.) Safe to say even if you take it to a "specialist" they can really cause troubles. It's been terrible, however since the last lot of work we've had done Vance has been running like a dream!
Good video lots pf information thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the tips guys! Was wondering how much you saved up in total before starting the van life and buying a van etc. :-)

It helps to have a few million in the bank, current JobKeeper payment from the government x 2, and $ gifts from rich parents. ; )
Cruelty Free we wish that was the case! I think we’d do things a bit more lavishly if we did 😉
