I have audix D6 and using a stand and I stick it in the kick off centered a few inches away from the beater head. But just ordered the Kelly shu for the D6 and will install the mic off centered like you have it. I bought a behringer 19A put it on the Kelly shu flats but listening to some videos of our last gig I couldn't hear the punch that I was used to hearing so I want to go back to the D6 with the Kelly horse shu..lol. but I liked your video. Thanks for taking the time to make.
Hey James, thanx for the comment! It's been 7 years since I did that video and the D6 is still in the same position and I'm still loving it. I've been tweaking my raw recorded sounds again recently (a never ending task) and the kick still sounds great w/ plenty of punch & no efx the way I have it positioned so I think you'll be happy. Report back, I'm curious to see what you think!
I've had one for almost 5 years, love it using a Beta 52. Great kit Man! Pearl made me a custom 6 inch in the early 2000's for a birch mega kit they made me... congrats! Top notch company, I'll likely never have drums that good ever again!
Thanx Jon! I had to come on here to watch it again b/c ever since we moved to the new house and I had taken the main front head off the cable has been touching the port hole. found out that I didn't have that one pushed all the way towards the batter head so about to put it all back together! :)
I'm not clear on how the little ends clamp on the 3 odd inch pieces that you cut... do you just twist them into the piece? Or do you have to use plyers to clamp the ends on?
Hi Jeff! Thank you so much for replying :) it's at about 2:38 where you're putting the little ends on each piece of cable that you've cut.. I'm trying to confirm how you clamp those on there. :) thanks!
@@jimbofitzpatrick7444 Oh gosh, that's been forever! ha. I just pulled up Nick at Sweetwater's video that he did 5 yrs ago and he explained that part a little better than me, so here's the link to where he starts talking about them! ua-cam.com/video/sPeHNf1VF-4/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared&t=339
Thanx John! I got the inspiration for that from the 80s Yamaha Recording Customs - always loved it. Trivia - I ordered it this way, Pearl in Nashville approved - Taiwan said no b/c they had stopped doing it. Pearl insisted b/c they told me they would and they made an exception. So as of now - this is the last MW kit to have the inside stained 😎
@@JeffWald Awesome! Yeah, to me its the Yamaha/Tama look (Tama did it 2nd I think). I'm planning on having a kit built in white. i love how it gives them an almost plasticy look when they're white inside/out.
How do you think the mount would hold up for a gigging drummer? I've been thinking about doing one of these mounts but I was worried about the mic sloshing around and possibly breaking the mount / straps.
Hi Jeff, Congratulations ! Perfect explanation of how to install this accessory for the bass drum. I live in Brazil and have a drummer with 04 tom, I would like to see a video of you giving mounting tips of his kit. Big hug .... God bless you!
Thanks Jeff for the video and awesome sounds emanating from your Pearl Masterworks kit. So when you pack up your drums, I imagine you would leave the mic on the mount and wrap the cord and push it through the port? Or do you weasel your hands into that 5" hole and remove it altogether?
Thanx! This kit stays at the house just for recording, rehearsals, practice and of course... fun! BUT, if I were to take it anywhere, I'd leave the mic in there and just take the cord out
I figured but I thought i would ask. I also have a home studio and stumbled on your channel when I installed my Kelly shu mount. I was sick of bumping into the boom arm and ripping my front head. Small spaces aren’t accommodating to us drummers. So I bought a stealth rack. Trying to save as much floor space as possible. Thanks for the reply and your drums sound great!
also chech the 14 floor tom it will make the same sound it is metel touching metal . even if you try to use a screw driver to tighten the srews it want do any good ,the metel that is set inside the lug is basically free floating while the nut is srew down to tighen the head this free floting metal is basically kept from falling out by the gold screws that dosen't keep it stable and therefor you can move the nut with your fingers and hear the metal sound and that is why there patent it flowed and sucks.
Hey Steve, I haven't had the issue that you're talking about. Older kits I would stick padding inside the lugs, but I have zero issues like you're describing
The issue I have with Pearl drums is the lug nuts . if you listen real close the way these hugs are made they will make a metal to metal weird sound that sucks on the 16 and 18 floor toms . the reason is the design is flawed , Because the gold screws are metal seting inside metal and the nut that is screwd down inside the lug will make a sound when you strik the floor tom . why ? i have a older pearl master works where the nut once it is screwed down inside the lug it dosn;t make any unwanted sound but the new master works and ans also have a pearl reference pure kite and it dose the same thing. Now i have a set of Ayotts and it dose dose the same thing. But my 2016 namm sonor sq 2 is perfect with the swetest purest sounf i have ever played.
Hey Steve, I put a reply but I dont see it now. I haven't had the problem of rattling like you mentioned - the metal sound. So I'm not sure what that would be. These only produce some very nice drum sounds :) no unwanted extras :)

Indeed! I've been playing Pearl for over 30 years now - all by choice. No endorsements. I'm still liking the Shu, very handy
Amazing kit! Thanks for the installation video! Very nicely done!

Hey Jimbo! I did this 7 yrs ago so refresh my memory - where in the video are you seeing what you're asking about? I'll take a look and let you know!

yes they sound great, but i LOVE when shells are finished inside with the same color as the exterior. Looks so cool!

I've got some friends that gig ALOT and they love it. just plug cable in and its ready. And these are touring/gigging guys. Give it a shot!
This looks like almost a rack setup. I have a Gibraltar rack with the same Audix microphones. Do your microphones shake while playing?
Actually no! Never even thought about that but am happy to report they've always been still

Thanx Davi! What do you mean "giving mounting tips"? Thanx again!
What I mean is that you could record a video saying how can mount your instrument so aligned.
OK
Big hug!
+davi herden gotcha!

Do you have the overheads mounted to the rack?
Hey George, no, they're on regular mic stands so they are separate from everything else

very nice!! :D
i noticed a slight pitch different as well, your left bass drum sounds a teeny bit higher pitched?
+crymzynplague Yeah, alittle bit. But I had just put the head back on so I didnt take alot of time to fine tune it right then.
+Jeff Wald cool :) still sounds great though! :)
Does it feel like you have twice as much room around the kit after you got rid of the mic stands?
At least a foot! :)
Nice Jeff, great video.
+SHAUN “VK3VH” STODDART Thanx again Shaun!
Honestly man, you have the most beautiful sounding kit! What are you rough EQ's? They're glorious!
Thanx Jesse! I have screenshots of the settings in the DAW but don't have them written down. maybe I need to do a video with those screen shots
Please do because they're awesome!
Always trying to learn more production skills and I think it'd really help :) Thanks for the message.
+Jesse Bones sure! I feel like a novice because I'm still learning it all. I'll see what I can do!
fair enough man, to me they sound glorious tonally so well done :)
