The Kelly SHU Pro kick drum mic shockmount gives you improved miked sound; plus, it takes up much less real estate onstage than does a standard mic stand! This system's horseshoe-shaped aluminum mount is suspended by heavy-duty rubber support cords, which safely use your drum's hardware as anchor points. The SHU Pro kit includes everything you need to install this system, which provides several internal and external mic-positioning options.

The main reason I searched was to know how long the cords should be cut. Lighting up the inside of the drum would have helped but for sure got the info I needed from watching this, thanks 😁

Video needs more light inside the kick drum. Also, showing black parts on a black tablecloth makes it REALLY hard to see any detail.

I got the flat with a beta 91a to use with my dw kick which to me just didn't sound right acoustically with a hole in the reso head. I cut/soldered a 5' mic cable going through one of the vent holes in the front head to get the mic cable outside the drum. The 91a itself sounds great, but combine say a 121 on the reso with no port hole and it's the bomb and provides the best of all worlds. Still using the standard DW pillows that the drum came with. With the mics combined, I think the best way to describe it is the recorded sound has some 3d element to it, like the sum of the parts is better than the individual elements. The huge bonus is that the drum still sounds killer acoustically in the room, without sacrificing that to get a better recorded sound. Worth a try for sure.

Great product and a helpful video. But I find it hard to believe nobody in the room had phone with a flashlight.

What if you have a mic system inside with a bass drum head on the front?

Got one for 2 years now. Very helpful I use it in my BD to mount a permanent Audix D6. I use it to feed our in-ears in live situation. For years a used a trigger. Now I do not have to travel with the electronics and I have less chances that something goes wrong. Great tool !

Been using these for quite a few years now, I have a horseshoe (Beta 52A) and a flat (Beta 91A) in my kick drum. Add the May AVC2 external mic socket thingy, and it's a perfect solution even with a full front head.

Wouldn't mounting a 91A in this fashion defeat the purpose of it being a boundary microphone?

Looks good but my worry is the bungees will vibrate and colour the signal or pick up frequencies you don't want.

Yup, and leaving the suspension system permanently loaded with a mic would seem to lead to premature failure,to my mind.

Hey Nick just quick tip vid for the hook ends. I love the Kelly Shu mounts , did an Audio Technica AE 2500 for my Tama kick, a Shure Beta 91A in a left 16 in floor tom, and AKG D112's in the right floor 16 and 18 inch toms. cord feed s thru the air vent holes on the toms. Keeping a hole in the front head on the kick just for ability to adjust the mic aim in the studio. Great product and Thanks to Sweetwater (Ryan! dude you rock!) for all the help getting the AE2500. Awesome mic for kick with the dual element condenser and dynamic in one. oh here is the vid link ua-cam.com/video/hQVFhP5qJMo/v-deo.html

They could make this system better with quick install or uninstall and applicable to all drums if they used a telescopic internally braced mount with a front to back adjustment like a X/Y Dynamount system .. like an umbrella frame or spider web

I've got a hole in my head so I don't need it. There's a hole in my kick drum head too.
If I were to play with no hole in the resonant head, I'd pick the beta 91 setup. Simpler and Slicker looking, and would work great with a Evans EQ pad underneath it. plus I'd worry about the mic coming out of the holder and bouncing around inside my kick drum, with the other set up.

i think you need a port hole for the mic cable anyway though, dont you?

LOL I full on felt the same way when I first saw one of his videos. He's totally grown on me though, and I actually dig him. Well he works for Sweetwater and he is a Salesman, so there is that. He's really good at what he does though, and the man's got chops, not to mention a great Pro background. He shows off a little bit in the New Vistalight vid. Yeah, Nicks pretty much the man. Keep em comin Nick!.
Now I sound like a Salesman LOL. That's okay, I'm not
