YOU LEAVE US HANGING!!!😳
You could have at least turns it on so we could hear it🙄
WOW, I see how it is.LOL
Can I have your old dust collector? My shop currently operates off a shop vac. I would gladly take that thing off your hands. Just the blower, the bag holders and the dust bags. Rather than throw them out🤷♂️🤷♂️ doubt it, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask
@@jerichojoe30720:41
I really wanted you to start it up so we could here how it sounds!
Yes!! Crank it😂
For $14K it should be whisper quiet!
Maybe it was on the whole time?
@@TheTgranber that’s sure a possibility. Didn’t think of that😂🤣
Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!
Yeah I wanted to hear it too!
Really nice system my friend. I for one am green with envy. I hope it makes life easier and the air cleaner for you.
Jason, thank you for this video.
As someone that has always wanted to have a woodworking space and soon will have a space, this is all excellent information. I'm quite certain the office of budget management will not approve a 14k line item but you've pointed out a lot of pitfalls to avoid that honestly I had already planned to do.
Thanks' again and keep up the great work. Enjoy that beast!
Would be amazing to have. Do a review after several months and let us know just how much better it is
Including a count of how many times you bash into that duct hanging into the aisle out the front of the Harvey .
Wow that’s really nice!
I disagree , this was the most exciting content ever!
I think I'm gonna upgrade.
YO! How about a follow up?! Been 7 months since you got this dust collector....how about...something....you know....about how you love it?
Damn, I wanted to see it in action!
Very nice setup! Next I would clean up the electrical wires hanging around the lights and property secure them to the ceiling 😉
I'd love Nordfab, but man, the price...and I'm a hobbyist. Jason, one note about your PVC setup: It was more than just setup wrong, it was designed/setup with minimal knowledge of the airflow requirements needed for good dust collection. This is the problem with everyone running 4" PVC to work horse tools. 6" and well-over 1500cfm is what is needed. 4" PVC can't do that, and neither could that dust collector.
Good upgrade! I would get that collector off the ground though, so that inlet would not be in your walkway. That might be more trouble than it's worth though.
Love it great video thanks. Why is the CFM 12oo ? Our Jettools vortex (so LOUD) is 15oo CFM tx
I was really wanting to hear and see it in action! lol. looks like a nice system
Common start the puppy up, let's see it suck and if you really want to get technical, get one of those flow rate fans indicators.
Fantastic video and total agree with your justification for the initial cost outlay. Amazing how some many woodworking guys dont invest in proper dust extraction...
One thing I'd be very interested in is at what points you introduced reducers? i.e., 6" down to 4" piping or lower?
Man... I saw a podcast with you and Steve from WWMM... I imagine you doing voice overs in the spot where you were with the podcast now.
Something just occurred to me.. Have we ever seen you without the snapback?
Good video.
I would have liked to see the DC operate.
What's with all the faceplates missing off electric outlet boxes then ,is that ok in the US then ?.
Can you give me an update on your G800? Nobody else has a video on one!
I personally love boring shop stuff. (And I like the build videos too.)
Great system, wondering about efficiency?
How does it trigger on? Does each tool do it or do you just leave it on?
I had no idea that the pvc pipe caused static…. Good to know!
Thumbs up UNTIL you mention the cost of the G800.
14k and can't put a $0.69 cent electrical plate on the outlet...
Oh and now I won't be able to sleep because now all I can think about is turning that beast on!!!
Just don’t forget to empty it on time.
Verizontal? 😜
Holy poopcicles... I was sipping a 57% gunpowder gin with ginger syrup... nipple... nipple... nipple....
And nos am nnt shr i'll Be ok for wark.
Edit! Serious question, Jason, how loud is it?
Why didn’t you start the dust processor? Dang I was excited to hear it
Same!!
Same, i Will see suck it 😀
He mentioned in the podcast that he had some issues out of the box. Haha. So he was afraid to start it
Check out "shop sounds podcast" he usually gives behind the scene info on it.
It was on the whole time at the end. It's just very quiet.
Anyone else kinda wanted to see him turn it on?
Hope it Sux ...to soon?
QUITE DISAPOINTED TO TELL THE TRUTH.
Absolutely.
Yes! I’m confused! Lol
My guess is it's 3 phase and he totally has no idea what that means.
You absolute mad lad. I came here to see sweet sweet dust collection action. Where are the shots of the router table perfectly sucking up dust? or the table saw sparkling clean after a cut?!?! i think we need a part 2.
I'm expecting every video after this one will feature content of that nature.
“If you’re an elderly person, you can follow us on Facebook” 😂🤣😂
That one hurt!
Well now ……….. wasn’t that special. 🤫
Well now! I resemble that remark!😁
That definitely hurt!!! 54 and I now feel ancient. Just too many sites to turn to and I don't want a million accounts out there.
Yo dude, when is the new Outfeed table for the Sawstop coming?? Harvey is a beast holy mackerel!
What sawstop? 🤣
Yeah it looks like he is rock ing a Grizzly
@@bw1532 was. It’s now a dedicated dado maker I believe
@@calebreasons Put you finger in it, and find out.
He get a new table saw? Where’s the old out feed table ?
Kinda makes my 2 box fans and an open door seem a bit inadequate; but I'll muddle through :)
You have 2 box fans? Damn that's fancy.
I'm lucky if I can open the garage door.
I'm gonna pick up a dust deputy here soon now that I have my garage laid out though. Figure it's better than nothing
@@siebe41 The dust deputy works WAY better than I expected. Only the tiniest amount of dust makes it to the vacuum. I've not had to clean a filter on my vacuum since I put it in, other than tap it a little. It's WAY better than nothing :)
You have fans and a door? Luxury, I wood work in a tent, no really a tent
@@adamfisher9135 Really you have a tent? I am on a couple of concrete cinder blocks under a tree.
Then again what I typically make it is all I really need, raised garden beds for the Mrs.
@@adamfisher9135 lol me too!
Yes litterally using one of those Costco car tents. Been using it for years, been through 4 tops already. After the original I've just been using tarps.
Next video, firing up the dust collector!
So you didn't turn it on. Does it work? 😀
Omg pvc doesnt explode. Stop spreading lies people
@John Oster If PVC caused dust explosions in home workshops, we'd see one by now.
Even at one in a million, we'd expect a few explosions per year. It doesn't happen.
@John Oster exactly what Chris said. MAYBEEEEEE this happens in the largest of industrial units. But NOT in woodshops we tend to know. Theres literally no known cases of this but everyone spreads the same myth. I read of shop fires due to dewalt chargers every couple months - never a pvc explosion (no matter what term you wanna use for it)
Finally got all your "ducts" in a row
100% Completely efficient.... Well, except for the ducting elbow jetting into the walkway to bump into.
I was thinking the same thing. But I couldn't find a way around it (no pun intended).
What would you suggest to make this better? Rotate it 90 degrees, buy a different set up?
It should come with a vertical pipe by design.
Im guessing any tighter of an angle would restrict air flow and hinder dust collection so to make best use of space available hes done the best he can?
@@rosshovvels5305 Think he means that the dust collector itself should have a vertical pipe coming out of the top of the machine so that you don't need to run a pipe out the side.
@@RocketSauce666 oh yeah i 100% agree with that, it would have been the logical way to design the extractor unit to have a vertical drop feed rather than horizontal as it is 👍🏼
Great setup, the only thing I don't really like about the Harvey Dust Collection system is that the intake comes out from the front...but other than that I have heard good things about it's performance.
All about preplanning where to put it so it’s not as intrusive. I put mine in the corner of the shop
I had the same thought but after more thought I came to the same conclusion as Dynasty did. Though if a shop is already set up and operational (like Jason's) it leaves you in the position of putting up with the space loss or totally rearranging the entire shop. And let's face it, 14k is probably a line item that gets vetoed when a shop is just getting set up for the first time.
@@-Jeremiah- agreed, all depends on what matters to you the most. His shop is pretty big so it’s probably a non issue
Can you put it on the other side of the wall, so the machine is outside. Might save the noise and space at the expense of sucking all your conditioned air outside.
It looks like you left the cut section facing against the flow of the dust, which will cause dust to build up on that cut lip. You might want to make sure the cut end of the ducts are facing towards the dust collector to ensure max flow and no areas for dust to collect inside the ducts.
It's like watching a video where a dude spends the whole video sharpening a knife and at the end he sets it down on the cutting board next to the tomato. WTF!
“One time, at band clamp, my buddy and I made a dust collection system…” Thanks for sharing, Jason. More great content!
And nobody can point to an actual garage-level “event” involving static in a dust collection system. Your PVC was just fine from a static perspective.
When you mentioned the price for the pipes I could have fallen out. I immediately gave your video a thumbs up to help you pay for your hospital bill from where those guys hit you over the head and stole your wallet.
ROFLMAO...
it is an industrial grade product. It is not for home shops. And the nice thing about these is that if you ever decide to sell the piping, you get back about 70% of your money.
Great video! It might be useful to add a duct opening on the floor, that way you can sweep up after machines/chisels/circ saws that don't have a dust hookup and push them right into the collection system. Food for thought!
Enjoyed the demo! Quick question... Was the consultation for duct layout included in the expense for the ductwork?
I'm curious about that as well
I'm here for that answer
I believe he said he used a separate company for the consulting
Airpro sold the ductwork and did the design. We only charge a deposit for the design and this cost comes off the final order. So it’s basically free as long as the duct is ordered.
@@scubaman2288 Thank you for the clarification!
Well, I now know what I want for Christmas next year. I guess I'll be getting a broom with the dust pan attachment.
Fun fact about dust collectors. They do their job if you use them or not.
It's been over a year now since you installed the dust collection system ( installed July 2021); it's December 2022 now. Can we get an update video?
I wanted you to wear a dust mask when you were taking apart the old system. 🤧
I don't think I have ever gasped this hard in my life. 8k for ducting? Dude, you got scammed, sorry.
There is no documented case of static fires in a small shop setting. Even without a ground wire. This myth is nonsense, and causes many woodworkers to think central dust collection is out of their price range or too complicated. It DOES create static, but not enough to cause a problem in anything less than a large industrial facility.
Watch the elderly person cracks. I'm rather do my own woodworking than waste a single minute on Facebook or Instagram. 😎
Now that you’ve had the system over a year how is the maintenance. Follow up video?
Not much info on the Harvey Dust Collectors out there.
Normally I'd jump straight on to to new bourbon moth video, but (I guess like a lot of your subscribers) I've already watched NLC's harvey video ....
Not that much money. Just the usual price of a Festool washer.
Where was my test run??? I reached the video end and said "This sucks!" Well I guess it sucks...... didn't see it suck to know it really sucked. Maybe next time I'll see it suck.
Are you fishing for the prize for most use of the word "Suck" in one line? You Win!! :) :)
More great content, but the stupid attempts at humour are still just as annoying 😠
The car was $6000 but the wheels cost $8500 🤷🏻♂️
Looks like the Neil patrick harris money cleared ;p
Static explosion … myth. You need a much larger ignition source.
Agree, and the fact that there was that much dust collected to the exterior pipe shows that wrapping copper around the pvc isn't achieving anything.
Love it... And I'm totally jealous. But bro, you've gotta at least wear a mask while literally throwing piles of dust into the air. The $10k is supposed to help protect your lungs not just save on sweeping. Keep up the good work!
0:12 “In this video, we’re gonna get crazy.” Only in this video???
Love your work, and videos!
Saving you much time cleaning the machine and most important keeps dust out of your longs. That's priceless. But why is the piping so unbelievable expensive??????
What does everyone do with their saw dust? Mine goes to a farm for gardens. Couldn’t be more grateful for that.
I put into the flower beds.
@@dddd2819 I make to much of the stuff. I’d run out of room quick.
good for you man. 👍🇨🇦
you running it on 220volts 20 amps. probably need a bigger wire run to the receptacle Just a guess. 🤷♂️
Nah, switching from a 20a 120v to 20a 240v is just hot to neutral vs. hot to hot. The wire gauge should be 12 for either one.
Want to see what you think after a few months.
I started sneezing about 5 min in...I think it was a sympathetic response.
Holy crap at the system! Amazing. Way out of my budget and beyond jealous! Congrats and nice job!
Can’t afford that machine, but I’m getting ready to order an Oneida Supercell. Got a bad lung report back, and I love woodworking. After my military career its just relaxing to build furniture ..
So would you opt for the newest “turbo” model or just the Supercell?
My shop has a 10” table saw, 15” planer, 3hp shaper, miter station, 12” disc sander, 14” bandsaw..
Great channel and always great tips and ideas!
Dammit. I just had convinced myself not to buy one of these.
Aww come on man, you didn't even fire it up for us!
I find myself wondering if dust collection would work better if the duct work was underfloor, avoiding the large vertical sections from machine to the ceiling and back down. I know that wouldn’t be possible here, or in most shops, but if someone was building a new shed and pouring a slab, should that be considered?
I have a delta 50-850 1 1/2 Hp 220v unit for my small hobby workshop.
Ran 6" Galvanized trunk line 25' straight down center of layout dropping 4" to shop units. Wired in a key vob off/on.
Have her mounted close to ceiling, with a super dust deputy and 30 gal collection bucket.
Impeller is 11 1/2".
Running she is a bit weak.
Question;
On the Impeller cover, Could cutting the 4" horn inlet to match the 5" Cover horn which matches my Dust Deputy increase my CFM's?
Best; Tom
It looks nice, but that big pipe sticking out the front would annoy me. I'd have opted for a side pipe setup myself, but it's certainly ideal for what you need.
plus one on this thought... That Harvey system has the pipe intake in a rather odd spot.
WHY WOULD YOU NOT BE WEARING DUST MAKES, when you're knocking all sorts of what-was-airborne dust back up into the air?!?! Sheesh... XD
Clamp together piping is completely overpriced. Nordfab is so ridiculous that they won't even publish the cost of pipe and fittings on their website, so i went to Grizzley's website and discovered that for my 600 sq ft shop with 9 machines, the cost was almost $4000, a thousand more $ than my Harvey G-700 dust collector, so I went with SDR-35 and love it!
How is the Harvey? Im considering purchasing the 700 model, do you thing it would be sufficient for a 1,500 sf one man hobbyist shop? Having a hard time justifying the cost of the 800 or 1000 model. Thoughts?
Holy crap man. The ducts were more than the collector? I guessed 4k for collector and 1500 for the ducts. Dang nice setup man
Love watching your vids. You are so funny and informative. Tell what I did get out of this video was (JEALOUSY) 🤣🤣. Keep up the good work.
Please Help! I’m about to buy dust collector for my two car garage shop and have been strongly looking at the G-700. My question to you is why the G-800 over the G-700? Thanks in advance.
Life Goals
#1. Get to that Bourbon Moth income level.
#2. Get a Harvey dust processor.
#3. Finish some white oak with Rubio Monocoat Cotton White.
First of all, is 31 old? Facebook is still my jam...
Second of all, I would've wore a resperator/mask taking all that shit down! My allergies would've sucked for days!
Should have spent $25k. Pu**y. Lol. Well done. Keep growing and putting everything in that shop your heart desires. Keep living the American dream.
You said Nipple 4 times after telling us to drink when we hear it...
Still trying to get drunk 🤣🤣
Watched the video 3 times to be drunk🤦♂️
14600 K is an insane amount of money. I would rather work in a semi enclosed space. And let nature do it's job of getting rid of the dust 🤣. Cheers from India 🇮🇳.
I’m saying this out of concern. You are covered from head to toe in dust and you don’t have a mask. It’s ironic because this is a video about dust collection and the most important part of dust collection is the safety it gives you. A 10$ mask could save you from all that dust you inhaled doing this video. Again, I’m not trying to be critical, I’m just concerned. I hope you consider my comment.
What a waste of money and shop space. No industrial wood processor/mill vents indoors. Why do small shops insist on doing this? 5hp blower vented outdoors sucked through a cyclone pre-separator. It’s Cheap and effective.
If you want to spoil yourself some more, you should check out GRIT Automation. We can automate all of your Nordfab blast gates or any new or existing metal blast gate. With manual gates it's very easy to have one open that shouldn't be. With GRIT you just turn on a tool and the entire system configures itself, as well as turning your collector on and off automatically. Gives you more time to work instead of checking your gate configuration and turning collector on each time you use a tool. GRIT also creates a level of safety by giving you the ability to lock and unlock your shop tools with the press of a button. This is great if you have curious kids that like to press the buttons. Much more to GRIT but just wanted to let you and others know we exist. Thanks!
Coupling not nipas your connecting to add too same as if you run to the end off a pipe you add a coupler to join too.
Be better to use a cooler as you would on a boiler flue it opens to fit round the diameter and its about 2 inches wide has to self tappers that you screw to the corresponding other end and compresses with a spongey strip for a good seal. Then you drill two small self taping screws to secure from flexing.
That price for ducting bowled me over. Should off gone for flue liner its exactly the same, and a 5th off the price. I'm from UK so all I get is American stuff on UA-cam and I'm a gas engineer so do loads with flues ducting waste etc. Retiring Oct and I am getting my woodshop together got to keep busy. Love that extractor but bit overkill
Yeah, 20 minutes of pipework, adverts and yaddy-yadda...... switch it on?.....naw!
Why would you take down old duct work without respirators on?
Great that moving forward you won't be continuously exposed, but the job you did exposed you to several decades of dust at one time. For a smart guy this was not your best moment.
I do love your woodwork. Keep up the great videos
Who else jumped to comments to know the end result? Soon as I read , I fast forwarded because I read he didn't fire it up.
Thank you for sharing the cost and how you spent your own money on it. Sure most of us will never justify spending that much but honestly, I completely understand why you did. This is your live and livelihood. Buy once and and move on. Thanks for the video.
Would have love if you had run it during the video, trying to find out how "quiet" it really is. Are you satisfied with the suction? Thanks!
