I still cant believe how some people have the music turned off in this game when its one of the best things it has. I remember doing this raid day 1 and when that dps phase came it hit HARD, it felt like a true raid boss moment.
4:00 The fact that the first Pyramid entity we fight has a damage phase theme that’s a remix of “Guardian” (the D1 start screen theme) is amazing. Decided to edit this after 10 months, if you are curious why people where correcting me it’s because I mistook Guardian for The Traveler.
He is not a pyramid entity, he is from a Planet named lubrae what makes him a lubraean and he has nothing to do with the pyramids.. i think he lived(?) In that pyramid which is from the zeugen (i dont know the english word, sry) that megamind dude you know
@@sasatype0538 He was found by the witness in Lubrae, and it made him its disciple. The pyramid is a part of the power he received when he vowed to be the disciple of the witness. After it, he single-handedly slaughtered a lot of civilizations including his own over the galaxy, injuring the leviathan which was guarding the "prison" of worm gods by taking one of its spine. And he corrupted the worm gods with darkness, resulting in the creation of hive. After the pact between krill (pre-worm hive) and the worms, he was stationed by the witness to oversee savathun, who the witness was considering to make her into an another disciple. But he was damn narcissistic and arrogant, so savathun and rhulk hated each other, to the point where that he verbally t-bagged oryx in front of her when he died. In return, savathun gave rhulk the bird by trapping him by turning the light mode of her throne world. That's why there is a sunken pyramid in savathun's throne world. P.S. Rhulk's arrogance eventually became the cause of his downfall by the guardians, because even he decided to kill the guardians who entered his pyramid, he decided to toy them while fighting them. When he realized that they actually hurts a lot, it was too late. (Guardians spammed the supers on him).

I have 30+ hours of sleep debt and here I am literally crying because adore how the composer utilized dissonance in the ad phases/ early boss phases, and then builds to the light motif of the entire destiny franchise during the damage phase. The dynamic crafting of the music just sells the heroism within the boss fight so well. The music is fighting with you, and music makes you braver.
There is nothing more heart pounding then on the day one experience when the choir starts singing at the dmg phase and you are on that final push to cross the line
ASs someone who plays tuba and dabbles in bass trombone, I can assure you that there were FAT grins on the faces of the low brass instrumentalists. If I were in that ensemble, I would've been wheezing of laughter afterwards cuz oh my lordy L O R D

Rhulk's OST is actually Literally, by Literal I mean LITERALLY Light Vs. Dark Music The start of The OST is that deep horn we hear like the Darkness OST and at 2:40 we hear the Tower OST music if you know that tune then mix mash it with the Darkness OST then there ya go, you have a banger music that fights who has the better tune and better feels.
8:23 for some reason this part of the song is the most epic for me, it’s like triumphant music but for both sides, like both are fighting with they’re fullest with super high stakes(I know Rhulk prob had a bit to spare maybe) but hey that’s just my take, fucking love the whole song tho
This boss music has always stood out the most for me out of all of the raids to date. I know some people have other preferences, but the Guardian motif blasting in triumphantly as you start to damage Rhulk is nothing short of fantastic, especially since I am quite invested in the story at this point, and this boss is a massive step up towards combating the root cause of humanity's suffering in the Destiny universe. We've fought minions of the Darkness before, and Rhulk certainly is still a minion in that sense, but he's responsible for the Hive being what they are. It's the first time playing this game that felt like the story was actually going somewhere.
I think it also goes without saying how the audio sync programming side of things has come a long way. Doom 2016 was a good example of "the more you progress a firefight, the more intense the music gets" i.e verse, pre chorus, chorus. Here you can hear the progression of the battle demonstrating these techniques using important effective audio cues during mechanics and damage.
Everytime I do a day one, I crank up the music and this is why. Hearing this while you’re doing minimal damage to a boss stressed as shit to see if THIS is the run. This is truly why we love destiny.
Its almost like Rhulk has a boombox next to his father's glaive playing his theme, and as the the forcefield expands, it muffles most of his theme, until you get to the back of his room and hear it at full volume
Still the best raid boss theme. The Witness should have had something along these lines utilizing the Darkness motif more heavily. Wasn't bad, but this theme was perfect for the Rhulk fight.
It actually kinda hurts me that the snare was killed in the mix on the OST release of The first disciple I know drummers that would sell body parts to have a snare that popped like that
the reason why it's more intense is because. it's literally the FIRST true darkness entity we have encountered. let alone the witnesses first disciple so, makes sense for his theme to have a more aggressive version of the darkness motif, same with any future potential darkness-based songs related to any other disciples
When i saw the Video title, i first thought this was some sort of challange, to complete the encounter while everyone in the team has no sfx and no comms.
Please do this with the whole raid! I’m especially interested about payload -> 1st encounter since they use the same music piece. Drown in the Deep is an absolute banger, and the in game version goes even harder. Although with no SFX you can’t hear the totems go “ee, oo, ee, oo”, which I feel add to it in a way. Interesting stuff!
you dont hear the choir chants on this video as well but can be heard in the official song. not sure if thats considered sfx or dialogue OR i needed to 3 phase for that to be heard
there is basically 3 phases of the song. first being the start and the 1st dps phase, second being the 2nd dps phase. and after that, the choir is in that part, before the 3rd dps. 3 phases of the song

I wish there were more difficulty options for raids, then you could enjoy all the raid encounters with music that's set up like this. Caretaker does a good job at this, but really that's no different than Acquisition. Fun fact, Drown in the Deep is I believe one of, if not the only raid track where the action and high action are completely separate and not just changed instrumentation.

its also worth pointing out that motif is used in half the raid boss music, riven and val cauor are the first 2 that come to mind
They've always remixed it on DPS phases which I think represents us fighting back to the enemy (Who's theme is also remixed like taniks)

Rhulks has some of the smoothest transitions tbh. No matter how long you take to reach his platform the music syncs almost perfectly into dps.
It cannot be said enough, Bungie are 10/10 when it comes to their soundtracks.

Neat little thing to note is that if you listen closely, the opening is a more intense version of the song that plays when you boot up the game
its the darkness motif used throughout the games life! heard the most when beyond light was the current dlc as the menu theme
