Good morning Mr George, just love how you explain the function and assembly of each component of the apron . Now tell me what is difference between the heavy 10 south bend and the 13 south bend. Also why are they referred to as 10” or 13” thanks in advance

Glad you like the videos. South Bend made sever sizes 9 inch to 16 inch… maybe even larger up to 24 inch I think. The size designation represents how large a piece of material could fit on the machine to be turned. 13 inch would be 6.5 inches from the bed to the spindle.

Good morning Mr George, thanks much for the info about 9” , 10” etc. Now , is the south bend heavy 10 apron and the 13” apron the same. Recently I bought a south bend lathe bed and I am in the process of purchasing a heavy 10” apron casting.

Thanks for your comment. Nearly Every part is different between the various models of South Bend lathes. The apron looks the same or similar but the 13 inch is much larger. I suggest you watch the first video in this series where I show the documentation for the machine. Also download the parts manual pdf. In the manual you will see detail diagrams for each component of the machine and a parts list for each machine size. Good luck on your project.

Did you replace the clutch thrust bearings? If so do you happen to have a part number?

I did replace the bearings, but did not write down the bearing number... my advise is to measure the old bearing carefully and order from MacMaster Carr
