Oliver 1955 FWA tractor plowing with Oliver 448 plow.

  • Here's another plowing video I saved for winter time. We were quite dry at that point in August, so the plow was constantly tripping bottoms or not going in the ground very well. I made a few rounds and then quit to wait for some rain. Still, it was fun to finally try the 1955 out on a moldbard plow. Think Spring!

    Love that cast iron grill i like how you have one with cab for crapy weather even though most of the time its nicee with open air tractors. But in nasty weather cabs are great

    One thing about the auto replies, you could leave it on 14 or switch a few bolts around on top of the frame and put it over to a 16. Very good idea. They had a lot of good ideas ahead of their time on a lot of things I still got two plows.

    Nicely restored to working order and good power.
    A little moisture to free up the clods and all will be well with the world.
    Thanks for sharing

    Nice Chris brings back a lot of memories, I've plowed with 2&3 bottom trailer trip bottoms,4 bottom hydraulic reset 3 pt.hitch, 5&6 bottom spring reset 3 pt. Had to back springs off first year with spring reset pulling to
    many big rocks. That's what backhoe is for. Great video! Faster to dig out rocks than fix the plow!

      Yep. In 2012 I had a plow day, and afterwards I took my skid steer out with the pallet forks and popped out rocks where I could see someone had hit one. I got over 30 that were 3 feet across or larger, as well as some really old plow shares.

    Thanks for the trip down memory lane! We had an 1855, I loved that tractor, wasn't hard on the ears,(no cab), you could ride her all day and not have your ears ringing. We didn't have very good luck though, we were pulling 6x16, semi-mounted onland hitch plow, I was so happy to be out the furrow!! LOL!! Our 1855 didn't have an oil cooler, and she didn't know when she was working, burned the engine up 3 times. Rich finally put it on the dyno, and she was pulling 125 hp. not a lot for the 1955 with the oil cooler, but way to much for the 1855.

    The 'ol 1955 looks to be due for an over hual! I recently learned that the 5.9l Cummins in our 1955 is natuaraly aspirated which makes it pretty rare. The 2-155 is coming along and still waiting to be put back together. Keep on farmin!

    Is it me or is the trips a bit "weak"? I understand the ground may be hard but, from what I'm seeing, it seems more like the trip mechanism is weak. It's the same moldboard that's tripping.
    That 1955 sure is purring good, love the sounds of the old Oliver's. That 1955 doesn't even know the plow is there. Great video, cheers :)

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 роки тому

      I had set the trips a little loose to try to save on shares. I only moldbord for fun, so no point in breaking things. I measured spring lengths and set them all the same. I bet one of the springs on that bottom is weak.
