It doesn't matter what color Ophelia is, it's how she works and she works awesome. The 1800 FWA worked and sounded great! You know, it's been almost 40 years since I turned soil like that, man do I miss those days. BTW, my son and I got his MF 285 running, at least to re-torque the head bolts and check the lash, ran great. We think the head gasket blowing was from a bad torque wrench, we found it was torquing 10 to 15 lbs low and at 95 lbs it was really 80 to 85, should have been 95 to 100. Once again an enjoyable video, thanks Chris, have a great day!

Dad bought an 1800 early 60’s w/5 bottom cushion trip beams, 2 WD.. we wore out 3 hour meters & it stayed in the family til after yr 2001, I changed the early power steering over to the newer style hydraulic eliminating the steering shaft up along side the motor. With the hydra power 2 speed tranny, never shift back to direct from under drive if you start coasting down hill .. use your brake to make it start pulling before you shift to direct and that 2 speed tranny will last for a very long time. We pulled 24 ft of grain drills, baled and swathed hay and many other jobs including stacking and feeding round bales. I added a tank type block heater to make starting easier in severe cold weather. I miss the tractor, thanks for making videos!
I think my in-laws had a 9-bottom WHITE plow, but they used it less and less as they moved into air seeding and reduced tillage in the 90’s, and their tractors got larger. My father in-law always oiled it up when he parked it in the shed, so it was ready to roll when needed. The guy who bought it was stunned with how nice it was, and he had a 1586 IH he figured would pull it nicely. My brother in law used it on a 5288, so I think it was a good match.

I have a 120 white fwd we used to pull a 5-16 white 508 plow. When you got in heavy blue clay if you didn't have a full rack of weights on the front it would pull a wheelie and walk the front tire rite out of the furrow. It almost felt like tractor pulling.
Looks like Ophelia could have used some front end weight. We bought a used White 4x18 to go with our 110hp 4240, it was about all it would handle running as deep as we did with our heavier soils. It didn't help that we were also plowing under a layer of manure spread on from our pit.........

Nice job with the Color Blind Plow add that was awesome. Thats a beautiful plow, I have run and seen and seen a few Oliver plows and yours is the straightest one Iv seen. Your 1800 looks and sounds great. You were right it is motivating me lol
Thanks! It has an aftermarket moldboard on #3 bottom. It doesn't show up much in this sandy soil, but in the heavier stuff I can easily see that bottom throws different and leaves a little ridge. It goes to show even a copy of the Oliver plow doesn't do quite as good of a job. Those Oliver guys really knew their plows.
Oh wow I would have never noticed that lol. It is true though I know a diehard John Deere guy that ran only Oliver plows back in the day. Thank you! I was thinking about giving some tips while plowing but didn't want to try to talk over the tractor, and didn't want to get off either. Maybe I can do that this summer after the wheat is off.
Excellent video Chris! Always impressed by the different views you bring us. I always loved plowing, so a plowing video is right up my alley! Rossquatch! How did you convince him to run? 😂
Our school does the drive your tractor to school in the fall, so she drove it this school year, if that counts. Now I'm wondering if we need to take it to MSU in the fall. 😂
They had a few models through the years. I have a White 6342 rollover that is the same as the Oliver, and my friend Alan has a 6341 Oliver. There's videos of both on my channel.
Another great video Chris. I'm curious about the dished coulters compared to cover boards? Only see cover boards in this area, not that anyone moldboard plows anymore. But those disc's did a great job of covering what little residue you had in your bean field. Good luck planting this year.
I think rhe dished coulters do a better job. They kick the trash over into the furrow quicker, getting it buried deeper. Down side is they can create extra side draft if you run them very deep.
Good ole Plows my Grandfather had one i pulled behind our MM when i was a youngster . What's new on the 1850 Rebuild haven't seen anything on it in a while.
The 1855? I have a couple more videos waiting in the wings, but I haven't worked on it for 2-3 weeks now. Too busy getting ready for planting or being in the field.
I was expecting to hear that old 8mm plow promotion film. 😁 What was the RossSquatch doing? Hunting possums? I didn’t think they migrated that far north 🤣
Rossquatch -I was dying 😂 that was awesome! There is something mesmerizing about watching a plow turn the soil, almost like staring at a campfire. On another subject: I was checking out your merch store, is the Herman sticker the only sticker you have?
That is my only sticker on the store. I've gotten some other stickers and magnets made up, but that place doesn't do a store setup. I order a bunch when they are on sale and hand them out mostly to kids at shows. Some of the dealer stickers, like the "that Oliver guy" one on Ophelia are actually magnets.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris I still have my dads Minneapolis 4-14" plow he bought new in the mid 60's. Its almost identical to this except for the spring resets. i use it every fall to plow the garden. Kinda overkill but its a fantastic plow.
March 30, 2023... Have you ever seen a Oliver with a push blade mounted to the front. I remember when I was small there was one that I knew of.. Could you research that and let me know if they made them with that equipment.. Thanks
Yes, I have seen a few. When I was a kid dad had a 2150 FWA with a Degelman front blade on the front. He used it to backfill tile trenches and push snow around the farm. Waldon was another brand. It was unique because the frame wrapped around the outside of the front tires instead of under the front axle. My guess is that helped with clearance issues under the tractor. My tractor Herman had a 14 foot wide Waldon front blade when my friend bought it. He took it off and sold it, which is too bad. I would have put it on for pushing snow in the winter. Do a google search for "Waldon blade on an Oliver ", there will be pictures. I'm sure there were other brands as well, but i know of those 2 for sure.
Nice video; good camera work. I noticed a few critter holes in the field; gophers, fox, ? And you were taking some risk plowing that close to the timber with a known exotic creature hanging around in there. :) Suggestion; consider wearing a wide bream hat when in the field. I got too much sun in my youth and now have to deal with skin cancer, which can be deadly.
Thank you! Yes, the FWA was on the whole time the 1800 was in the field. I should have switched it off for a run to show the difference. The 1850 would slip in the tougher spots, the 1800 would bark. RossSquatch doesn't move very fast, or very far, but I was getting nervous on hat last pass.
Cool Chris, I'm glad to see both the 1850 and the 1800 in the field. Would a 354 perkins bolt into a 16 or 1755, or is there minor differences that would make it hard? I know where there is a gasser with a bad engine and a 7300 diesel combine, you can guess my thoughts 😮
It's a tough fit. I don't think it would fit in a 1655, not without extensive modifications. The 1755 wouldn't be bad if you got a front frame from a 1850 diesel, or a White 2-85 or 2-105. Bolt that tub to your 1755 rear end and the Perkins will drop right in.
I robbed the wheel to put on something else. I only had it on there because it needed it when hooked up to my tandem plow to help keep weight off the hitch of the front plow. That is the land wheel from my 7 bottom 548, I need to put it back.

I swear myself but it’s certainly not every other word and when I do it makes me feel like sending you money. Haha
By the way your check is in the mail.
He used to say he had to go to church twice a week to beg for forgiveness 😂 I would say don't beat yourself up over the John Deere. At least you had a good plow haha
Awesome video, Chris you sure put a lot of effort into making them. No plowing around here. It’s snowing like crazy right now.
Thank you! Are you in Wisconsin? A friend said that he has 2-3 on the ground there.
Yes, central Wisconsin
I was going to say someone should take a picture of you sitting on it with a pipe in your mouth. LOL.
@@emmitt00 Or of a modern big farmer, either asleep or watching videos his wife would not approve of, while the auto steer and bottom monitors did all of the work. Soon a farmer will be totally optional as the new AI computers and robots will be doing everything.
And you get to smell dirt!!!
It's right up there with fresh mowed hay
Awesome video! I’ve been looking for 1850 plowing videos to figure which plow I should match to it. Thanks! If you ever need a video idea, I think a good overview of setting up a semi mount plow would be awesome.
Thanks!
I told him there was a sandwich in the woods.
There’s not much I wouldn’t do for a good sandwich.
She pulled the plows like she had done it before!! She been to school this year??
Our school does the drive your tractor to school in the fall, so she drove it this school year, if that counts. Now I'm wondering if we need to take it to MSU in the fall. 😂
Nice to see the old equipment getting it done. Did Oliver ever make a rollover plow?
They had a few models through the years. I have a White 6342 rollover that is the same as the Oliver, and my friend Alan has a 6341 Oliver. There's videos of both on my channel.
One thing's for sure, if your going to film Ross running, it's going to be a very short film clip🤣
😂😂😂 That MPF gets him every time.
I did 4 takes of that and I had to lay down after. Too much exercise 😂
I think that 1850 needed a good workout.
I thought it would snort a little more. I might have to try a 6 bottom.
I’d like to see that. I would say in that ground it would pull them. Do you think it would pull 6 eighteens lol.
6 18s might be a stretch. She would have to put on some weight for sure
Always great to see shiny moldboards……
Agreed. I can't get that mirror shine with my coarse soil, but I still like it.
What was the RossSquatch doing? Hunting possums? I didn’t think they migrated that far north 🤣
They're spreading. He heard there were cougars in southern Michigan and thought it was a good place to pick up older women.
It’s mating season and the Rossqatsch is on the prowl. Lock up your daughters. And moms.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris Looked like he was going to theive some parts..............
@@tpfromcentralpa1692 maybe he already did. I should check my woods for a den full of Oliver parts.
Nothing gets the cougars hotter than a pile of parts.
Better sell that footage of the Rossquatch to The Onion!
😂😂😂 do they still make the national enquirer???
@@ThatOliverGuyChris 🤣🤣🤣
Rossquatch -I was dying 😂 that was awesome! There is something mesmerizing about watching a plow turn the soil, almost like staring at a campfire.
On another subject: I was checking out your merch store, is the Herman sticker the only sticker you have?
That is my only sticker on the store. I've gotten some other stickers and magnets made up, but that place doesn't do a store setup. I order a bunch when they are on sale and hand them out mostly to kids at shows. Some of the dealer stickers, like the "that Oliver guy" one on Ophelia are actually magnets.
That's like plowing in a sandbox. Bring it to Missouri and try it out in our clay loam soils (heavy on the clay).
It is a sandbox. In the spring it's nice, in the summer it can make a guy nervous.
Thank you Chris, if you can find a picture of one please post it... thanks again....
He better watch out for sure. A Rossqatsch burrow is big enough to lose that 1800 in.
Nice Ross sighting and sunset. Always like plowing. Looks like you flirting with covering another camera.
I was thinking the whole time that it was the same spot I buried the gopro. Some of this video was filmed with that same camera.
That's neat a pink tractor. I would like to see a pink john deere. ❤ why don't you plant the plow pink.
The plow was what was being promoted back when they painted the 1850 like this. Because of that, they left the plow green.
Good plow like to have one
Salve Enomine 🕯️ Amem 😎👍
Yes Lord!
Very nice tractor and plow. Is the missing wheel for depth control or for transport?
I robbed the wheel to put on something else. I only had it on there because it needed it when hooked up to my tandem plow to help keep weight off the hitch of the front plow. That is the land wheel from my 7 bottom 548, I need to put it back.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it. I thoroughly enjoy your content, I hope you have a great season.God Bless the American farmers
D17 Spud, a w9 ih can't pull that plow.
Bet mom wasn’t too happy! Looks like you forgot to plow her garden!!
😂😂😂.
Them tractors have a sweet sound. Could you tell a difference having the fwa compared to the 2wd?
The 2wd was definitely having more slippage in the tougher soil.
Lavender
That's probably the closest color. It really depends on the lighting. Back in the 1960s men only knew 3 primary colors and 3 secondary colors, and none of those were pink. 😂
@@ThatOliverGuyChris What is the argument about color? It is painted its own tribute color to show to customers that the 1850 is a PEPPIE TRACTOR so, therefore, the color is PEPTO.
@@bigun447 people can argue all they want. That paint laid down so nice, I just enjoy looking at it.
