Recently bought one of these. I was wanting a manual till I saw the difference in 0 - 60 times. Also, nobody complains when an r35 is a dual clutch why is this any different.
Driveway Developments so true
It boils down to people being misinformed about what a dual clutch is. It's cool because that leaves these beauties for real enthusiasts.
Same goes for bmw and Mercedes fanboys. None of them seem to care about manual transmissions in the ultimate driving machines, but when they see an AT in this, a q60, a GTR, an STI..... It's just this gigantic ego problem. Lol
Who cares
There are haters everywhere you look 🤣
Best ever honest review of the evo x out there . Had my sst last 8 years and every Sunday I get that same feeling . Drop it down 2 gears and bam quickly go up 2 or 3 gears from paddles. Car grips like shit on blanket and next minute can just cruise in town . Keep it fully maintained and you will not regret owning an evo x . 1 minor thing I average 9 mpg but I'm always in s sport lol .
I'd happily have an Evo 7 GTA with the INVECS-II torque converter auto let alone an Evo X with DSG. Mitsubishi used to make some decent & desirable cars. My 2002 Galant is a testament to reliability!
I wouldn't have a problem with the SST gearbox, manual versions of the Evo X only had 5 gears which made them drink even more heavily.
They are also able to take power upgrades, the most powerful official Evo X, the FQ 440 has the SST box.
My dream car, and I'd get the SST gearbox too if I could ever buy one. The FQ-440 comes with this.
Ooooiii the fq440 is a problem 😍
i agree with the flappy paddle gearbox , it is the future you very rarely see a manual in a ferrari or aston martin or any other super car. This technology is slowly filtering into these type of cars now we will have to get use to it.
This is the video that convinced me to buy an Evo X MR. 2 years owing it in Australia, couldn't be happier with it, its the same phantom black, just with the oem bbs wheels and leather recaros🙌
Hey Jamie. Love the flappy paddles on my lancer. After driving a semi truck ( lorry) for 12 hours a day with an 18 speed manual transmission, there a god send.
im gonna say it.. i actually found this really usefull and will be going to test drive one tomorrow, thanks man!
Thumbs up, all props and +1000 internetz for being cool and honest about this, automatic gear may be considered "lazy" and "taking away" control, but I don't give a shit about that - sheer comfort and enjoyment are a good tradeoff, especially if you can sort of still change gears yourself. X being a last Evo instantly makes this a classic and youngtimer candidate, I AM gong to get one myself SOMEDAY.
If I don't, I'll die a failure
Thanks for sharing. The comparison with a Scooby is still a good one. Mr JWW and the other vloggers love their paddle shifts, like you say it's the future of performance cars. Whether you like manual transmission or not is a personal preference
Love the review Jamie as for the Double Clutch gearbox it's a sign of things to come
Even still into 2023 I'd have a Evo 10 over the brand new performance cars it was the perfect blend of refinement practicality reliability reasonable running costs it ticks all the boxes. I've had 2 btw both Sst's also 💯🚀🚀
These reviews are getting soooo much better! Keep it up!
nice to see a car review like that. Most would be like EVO auto NO way, but you review it as it should be. keep it up FYD
I own a Evo X With the sst transmission and love it. I would even buy a Evo X manual for weekend hand work out lol nice car and easy to acquire power
Antonio you still got your evo?
Awesome review. I have a 2010 mr evo x with 353 hp and 375 tq at the wheels with a built, upgraded, and updated sst tranny. Currently running 24.5 pounds of boost. I bet you would have even more fun driving mine. This tranny is an auto manual. It literally drives just like a manual but without a heavy clutch in manual mode. You can't row gears as fast as a twin clutch can shift. And it's never missed a shift either. And you can brake boost off of the line and you can get better rolling brake boost runs in as the rpm goes up and loads the suspension. Unlike a true manual where the rpm is equal to your actual speed. I guess some people out there still think they can shift a manual faster than a porsche pdk auto too. Who needs flappy paddles? On the sst you can also upshift and downshift in manual mode by bumping the shifter either up or down.
preceisly these internet clowns havnt a clue what their on about bro
im amazed how youve got an uprated SST box but only pushing 353bhp and 375 torque....mines not have any sst work done and runs like a beast at 420bhp and 400 torque. i will be uprating mine in the future, but that will coincide with 500/500 no doubt
Really great video! Finally the video
I’ve been looking for! In depth! Definitely a car I will
Consider in the future and you’ve really helped me know more about the car and answered loads of Q’s particularly the flappy paddle stuff thanks
Most important thing with these is to make sure the fuel relay has been changed as the originals were faulty.
I've got a 2011 FQ300 SST. Absolutely amazing car. Be careful with the SST trans. As good as it is they can go wrong. Mine had to have a new valve body, clutch pack and clutch fork magnets. Bill came to £6k. Its epic now though.
I think the SST ones are going to become what the evo 8 260 became, an absolute bargain by the time you throw the basic mods on you'll get a 400bhp car for next to nothing
Hi Jamie! I loved the idea of POV at the first few seconds.
Will we every see a series of videos with just pure driving pov videos if enough people get interested?
What a great review, well done bro you should be proud of this!
If it's dual clutch, it's closer to a manual than an automatic.
For a daily car, there's no better system - it's easier to drive every day and is at least faster when you're on it, if not a little less involving.
who wants a evo for daily car? go get a corolla
@@iagenow i would
iagenow I got one MR for daily. Fkn love it in the highway when going to work
Mike Hughes No it’s not lol. A dual clutch automatic is still an automatic. There is no clutch pedal nor does the car require you to shift. It’s an AUTOMATIC. The difference between a dual clutch auto vs a traditional automatic is one uses clutches and one has a torque converter. Dual clutch, single clutch, cvt, and torque converters are all automatics and have none of the characteristics of a standard transmission.
@@IamCooper-rk5bn It's not auto you moron its a manual with two clutches operated by robot. I have the same in my VW, where its called DSG, if it's good for all performance Audis, Lamborghini or Bugatti its good enough for me.
Comfy and fast. That's what you want.
I have also manual Miata, don't drive it anymore as i live in the city and getting out in it it's hell, one part of the hell is the manual shifting, in traffic that's a no go.
I agree, the paddles are cool. Might have to invest in this car to join my supercharged 350z. :)
Hilarious review, especially when pumping the power. I am buying one ASAP :-)
I want a car with a dual clutch but the "flappy paddles" is a proper shifter.
would love a evolution but only just can afford to run my 2009 standard lancer lol
It’s hilarious seeing a equal power GSR losing to an SST Evo in a drag race but I do have to admit, the maintenance on the SST and reliability can be a pain. Amazing tranny if money can thrown at it.
I really would't consider flappy paddle as an automatic, more like semi-auto since you still have the freedom to choose the gear. Some flappy paddles even have a great, manual like feedback from the gearbox.
Let me be the odd one out; the SST is the better transmission for that car. What to make more power and go crazy? Update those clutch packs and do a build. Boost all... day... long... You have to drive one to really get it.
Wouldn't be my choice but but dual clutch transmissions are quick but all I'm saying is if your gonna dial up the boost will the gear box last? As I remember that's the reason they didn't use it for the fq360
if u do an automatic evo x, you really do owe us a manual one. 😎
Nah
Except its not ab auto, it's a dct transmission which is effectively a manual controlled by a computer. That and the manual on these is 5 speed and needs another gear. Nowhere near as good as the dct for everyday driving.
I've heard the gear box is the same mechanics as the manual just the clutch lacks not a problem I'm sold
I have this exact model and love it !
Soon I'll own one, its owesome
I'm pretty sure these sst cars will only take 360bhp before the gearbox starts to say no more. rather a evo 8 mr fq
If you can find one that is.
It's the torque that kills the transmission, not hp :)
Lee H 400tq is about the limit when stock clutches slip on the MR. There are a few people running 500-600whp/400tq on stock trans/motor SST without issues yet. Wouldn't recommend it to most unless you're going to be prepared for when the clutches fail.
LEE Harrison incorrect ! they can take over 400bhp easy, and around 400 lbft .Any more and you just uprate the clutches just like you would have to in any other evo when getting to the same sort of bhp.
My UK evo x is proof of this, see my video of mine on the dyno.
thats why you send them to jacks transmission idiot , they rebuild the trans and put in a 900+hp clutch
The dsg in the evo x is so unrated matt farah likes it and he is a manual guy
King of evos is the evo 6 tommi makien , review that
Hate the sonic thing - I have an evo 8 - great content keep it up buddy!!
Looks wise it's still VI and then the V. But it looks better then the VII, VIII and IX imho. Can't judge on flappy paddles... never driven a car with them... still better then full automatic I gues.
Jamie I don't know if your going to see this but I would love it if you could do a review on a old ford like a ford Mexico trust me you would love it
just realised the only downside is no handbrake turns. yeah I know I need to grow up but Na...
Why no handbrake turns? It has a handbrake, bud.
Handbrake turns are for kids, adults do it with clutch kick... which can't be done here.
I was thinking of getting this exact car as my first car... how's its for a first car owner and as a daily drive?
10 months later but for a first car i wont recommended it, specially cause of insurance is super expensive and you want to have fullcover on this car.
nice job jamie, lovely car
Wouldn't think there's so many modified/nice cars on the Isle of Wight
Nice car there bro😍😎✌💪🔥
it seems nice but not enough fun when on boost. I think the later cars are are too quiet and heavy and need more power. Id rather my 300bhp blobeye
dont diss autos especially those who cant physically use pedals lol
Good vid man
Looking at getting shot of my mk7 gti for one
Which Evo is best buy in UK?
Great review. Thanks!
Btw paddle shifters are not the future. They have been in every super car around there for many years now
EVO X AUTO IS NOT A SUPER CAR. OK
Pretty sure that's not what he said...
iagenow I never said that Even when still in 2019 mod evo Xs can fight with many super cars in the track
I'm interested. Anyone got a car with the paddles? How do you parallel park in let's say a tight spot?
Just go into normal Auto mode
Good vid bud. we need to get you over here to ireland to review some cars.lol.you also screen shoted my snap I sent you on Monday. please don't photoshop me in a porno lol
Owned two cars with paddle shift and they are good at first, but if you really love driving they get boring as fuck in no time. Manual for the win.
Aaron Hall were they dual clutch paddle shift though as that's a totally different feel to just a paddle shift auto box,
I have an SST evo at the moment said I'd never drive an auto again then I tested it and it blew me away
Watching Videos Yeah both dual clutch. I had an ibiza cupra and an stronic s3 and they both bored me rigid. I just prefer a manual I think
Aaron Hall yeah true thats fair enough, I sometimes miss manual when I drive a work car or a friends but wouldn't get rid of the dual clutch for one again just yet
Is the badge on the back wonky?
Isnt the SST a MR and the 5 speed a GSR?? thats wht is it over here in the States
No. I have a GSR SST, SST denotes a dct transmission. The MR is the top of the line evo and thet cost a fortune to buy! You can still have GSR with a manual as well.
It's mit-soo-bi-shi
Daniel Scott lots of youtubers seem to call it "mishubishi" lol
Does it has turbo?
i would love you to do a review on my mr2 when i get it
thats a mr mate..
not a gsr
Epic
how many times can you say flappy paddles....tut
Get that on a shirt
£1500+vat just for the part! if clutch starts slipping been there!
dosent seem to shift as fast as dct s ive seen but nevertheless nice car that
i have this car running over 400bhp with the DCT box, trust me the changes are instant, you dont feel any loss of time nor power whilst changing
Sean Marsh 👍 autos are the way foward
Lol. His giggles is selling me.
Very nice
this is actually an MR, GSR's are manual
Brandon Abass maybe in the U.S but in Japan, Australia and the U.K you can get a gsr with the sst as an option. I own a gsr sst in Australia
There is a reason why sportcars with autos are cheaper
is it as fast as a manual one?
It would be faster as the gear changes are so much quicker
Ohh hmmm
Maybe but MAN TRANS FTW
It's faster...
cool
those things at the top are triggering me so hard right now...so fkn ugly...
the problem with these auto boxes, like many auto boxes in this segment is the cooling and breakdown of the fluid. even with say 2 external auto transmission cooling rads fitted this will still limit the horsepower to the high 400s mark. the torque will destroy the box. unless he has his auto built (not worth the money unless ur racing for money lol) then there's no point
Except its not an auto transmission 🙄 It's a DCT. They generate less heat than an auto with a torque converter. Probs do a bit of research buddy.
Swap it for your lexus
vortex generator 🖒
"Mitchabishi"
Why...just why.
It a mr not gsr
in EU and the UK, the MR was the GSR.
Hate these evo's old gens are million times better
are they bollocks says the man with a shitty slow type R
Bet you've never driven one 190bhp type r man 😂
beebo lmao I’d eat you for breakfast 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽💨💨💨
being a mitsubishi technician im quite sad to see the twin clutch automatic. they are a good box but they have nothing but problems. if your going to get a evo, it has to be a manual. more so for reliability
weird i myself have owned a sst for yonks and others i know have them have been brilliant only bad if not maintained right
flappy paddles
yuk
Mitch a bishi
autos are crap that's why I went for the manual fq360 👌
not auto bitch ass
Joshua Estrada what's not a auto?
Same here, got an s4 now though. Hopefully getting a 440 soon
lightening fast 6 gear changes, the 5th speed manual is shit compared.
rob jeynes and a dual-clutch SST Evo with equal or even less horsepower will still walk you.
Awesome car, boring transmission
quite the opposite of boring you clown
12H8Bates so gtr is boring car because auto trans? New Ferrari is a boring car? Wake up ...
Things have moved on since the 1930's. We all have DCT transmissions now! They are absolutely awesome. Could never go back to a clutch even after driving them for 21 years.
auto box omfg flappy paddles, shotgun please. Its a peice.
Where was the auto box on the car? Do you mean dct? There isn't such a thing as an evo with an 'auto'. All performance cars have dct now - all of them. We moved on from old clutches and big gearsticks years ago, they can't shift as fast. Technology moved on pal!
@@bEEBO178 Yes dct u still cant change down when u want. Nothing against DCT would rather oldskool manual or synchro box.
@@bEEBO178 And if u dont use paddles its an auto.
chick car
Chris chris conveniently I'm a chick..
Slushbox
Has 300hp m but weighs 1600kg
Ben Chesterman if you're referring to the power to weight ratio because the same age Subaru (wrx-s) is lighter it has a power to weight ratio of 180bhp/tonne. This evo has power to weight of 188bhp/tonne. Granted it's a bit of a fatty but should still be able to hang in there
the wrx sti of the same age weighs just over 1500kg with power to weight of 196bhp/tonne. All very close really.
1525 kg
Ben u drive a Subaru so what the fuck would u know u toss pot.
Wrx sti under 1300 kg
Auto evo 😂 the only good thang about this car is the recaro seats
Lol inteligent 😂 So auto GTR is bad car? Every new sport cars with auto are bad? Lol you dont now what do you talking about .
It's not an auto you spastic 😂 It's a DCT. Ferrari's, Lambo's and just about every hyper car has them. Go back to your 1930's tecchnology 😂😂
Evo X hands down the shittest evo ever made.
you talk shit
Best evo
How reliable is the evo x sst?
like out very reliable if maintained right
