@@peteregger7928 I haven’t thrown anything away in a while lol! I love those Midwest rails, I like them better than my RAS on my SOCOM, I prefer cheese graters, the only one I found that’s better came on a factory European Colt, very similar to the MI rail but also uses 2 screws to hold it tight, not sure who made it for Colt but someone gave me a name of the manufacturer that I never heard of.
I believe the maker of the European Colt quad rail was a company called 5th Axis, I will double check that later and update if needed. But it’s a really great quad rail. Quad rails are my favorite rail as I’m not a fan of M lock.
@@ar-15techtipsinunder5minut8 The other three 20" drop-in's I have from MI only have the Picatinny on the top rail with MLok on the other three sides. So all four that I have now have been flawless in fit and finish! Just didn't want to pay for a KAC RAS. Definitely will be interested in your findings about 5th Axis.
Ha! Ha! It's becoming more and more routine! There is so much garbage on the market right now! Brownells should be ashamed of taking people's money on those Calvary Arms grips! That goes for Palmetto as well!
Thanks, Pete Those pins on the MI quad rail are the key to locking it in place and preventing rotation. Some of the other lower cost quad rails do not have that feature. For _most applications_ they aren't critical. But if you are mounting any sort of sighting equipment on the rail, such as a laser or PEQ2/15 IR, then they are important...or more important.
On my 20" rifles where I used the MI's it was to stop hand guard rotation that gets especially bad when using a bipod. Doesn't really affect accuracy with just a bipod causing rotation but as you are saying if it's any type of sighting device the hand guard has to be solid. Thanks again for watching and commenting Gary!
Hi Again Pete 😀 I Agree The Windham Weaponry Butt Stock Is Good But Are They Still Using Commercial Buffer Tubes and Not Mil Spec or Is That a Mil Spec There Using Now ? I Like The One You Called Colt But Might Swap out That Checkered Latch From The Windham I Personally Would Go With a Original 80’s Colt Grip 😀😊 That Midwest Industries Quad Rail Is Awesome 😀😊😊😊👍🏼 What’s The Part Number of it I Want to Get One Too
The Windham I have is commercial spec so it would be very loose on a MilSpec tube. I should have pointed that out! The MI Carbine Quad 2 piece drop in is P/N MCTAR-17G2. $105 from Blackhawk Armory plus shipping. I've tried to find an older style Colt A2 which most call the deep charcoal chalky version but with no success. The last one I found was from Arms Unlimited but they have been sold out since I got one from them. I'm pretty sure they are no longer available from Colt and are NOS but nobody else has them either. The used ones I found were beat! Thanks Chris!
When I was a kid there was an old advertisement for Discount Tires where a lady would pick up a tire and throw it through the front window of the tire shop. The announcer would say if you are not satisfied with our tires, you can return them at any time. Wish you could throw that grip into the shop of Cav Arms. What an absolute embarrassment.
I couldn't even get mad this time! Just total amazement that somebody built the crap and sleeps at night and then more befuddlement that Brownells sells it! Things in American society are not the same anymore!
@@peteregger7928 the best source for a good A2 grip that I’ve found is Geissele. It is the same dimensions of my Colts. Unfortunately there is no source for the “fat chalky” style of grip that previously came on Colts. Can only buy those on the secondary market. LMT sells an excellent waffle stock that has thier checkered latch. I have several of the old Colts that do not have the smooth circle and rectangle areas and are completely devoid of markings (no cage codes/made in USA). For me, these are the most desirable. I carried a very basic Colt M4 in Afghanistan in 08-09. Plastic handguards, waffle stock, Aimpoint M4. Love that baby.
That grip fitment was straight hilarious. What a heap of hot garbage. You're making me want to build my own m4gery type setup. That Midwest rail looks like i'd help a lam retain zero great. They make good stuff man. That's the problem if you own NV, you damn near wanna build everything with it in mind.
Got the rest of the parts I needed today. Just finished it up and should have the video up sometime in the morning! This was my finest Frankenstein build ever! Yes! More and parts are garbage from what use to be reputable manufacturers and retailers! Things have changed!
Won't matter what you put in there. The slot is so tall there is nothing to capture the sling loop to prevent rotation. You can tighten it until the plastic cracks and it's still going to rotate. The other reason it went in the trash was insufficient spring tension on the latch. Some people that have that issue will use a Ranger band on the latch as a bandaid. I'm confident I could have come up with a solution for both issues but I just didn't feel it was worth my time and effort. Throwing parts in the trash can so you don't have to! Lol!
I hope not! But that would explain a lot! So much junk in the market place now! I spent $8 each on the Calvary Arms pieces of crap! My truck gets about 17 MPG in the city. Nearest FEDEX is about 10 miles round trip. Cost to return when including my aggravation is why a lot of this stuff ends up in the trash! These charlatans count on this when selling a lot of their garbage!
@@peteregger7928 The butt stocks I could live with lol ... but that grip; there is no excuse for that crap. None whatsoever. I'm glad you called them out.

Thanks Pete another great informative video. Midwest's Mlok drop ins are great also as you described.
Thanks Allen! MI stuff has been great so far!
Thanks for your knowledge I appreciate it. I’m going to build a tack driver Colt like yours. Thanks man
Thank you! Trips to my trash can so you don't have to! Lol! Good luck on your build and check everything! Everything!
Excellent work Pete.
Thanks! Almost there on this one!

Why can't you try a different sling loop and see if it fits tighter
