That's a cableway with a cable car. It's used with a hand brake to go across the river slowly to measure the water flow. Used mainly by hydrologic technicians that work for the USGS or other agencies. The arm out over the river has a radar on the end of it that measure how high the water surface is.

Amazing and beutimus episode makes me want to take a hike in the desert.
Some mine tailing hold a respectable amount of fine gold. My buddy has a vrbo rental on the Dolores River just below Rico Co. He can mine for gold right there on his property. If he spent a little more weekend time he could get a couple ounces of gold each summer.
Mine tailings is what I look for when RZRing in them hills. I found a large copper mine once up there and had to turn around due to weather and can’t find it since. That’s why I keep going back there so we can refind it and explore the surroundings. The road leading to it has been repurposed and is hard to get to. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

It probably was a water tank. Water was needed for steam power machines.
The Flumes where used for Moving water up to the mines, but after they where all built they found it wasn't worth using..

That area produced uranium for the first atomic bomb. The mine sold the ore as Vanadium. Government processed the ore and separated the Uranium. Manhattan Project was so secret the mine didn't know the Government really only wanted the Uranium.
