What I like about Dereck is that he is experienced in life and music but also doesn't really care about UA-cam clicks or views or having an agenda, He's a real human being, and he allows the interviewee to speak. His calming demeanor is a lesson to others. Excellent interviewer, as good as Charlie Rose was before he melted down.
Another good interview. Steve Hackett is one of the gentlemen in the Rock music world. So generous with his time and his stories - especially the ones about post-war Britain & Richie Havens - are always interesting.
Hi Steve, regards from a very old neighbour in Twickenham. We both got our driving license at Richmond School of Motoring! Kim's paintings, mango tea and guitars in the basement. Keep up the good spirits xx
These interviews have been great. Barbieri, Edward KaSpel, Steve Hackett… these are some of the real quiet geniuses of creative music coming out of the UK- and all lovely humans too. thanks Dereck
Steve Hackett is generous beyond expectations. What a cool person. And you Dereckvon ! i think i recognize you from the Other Vinyl group on silly Facebook i just got kicked out of ...or kicked meself out...i can't quite remember 😂🤣...you deserve my respect !
Heard about this on instagram and I had to jump right over! Incredible job Dereck engaging and also your impeccable listening skills. I’m going to pick up Steve’s new album next week. Congratulations having done such a fine job with a hero of yours.
Steve Hackett! You are one prog power player. This might be my favorite interview yet. What impressed me most was that Steve wanted to hear about you. That tells me so much about him. You really know how to conduct a good interview. You give your guests plenty of space to breathe. I can't express how much I enjoyed this interview. Your content as always is so enlightening.
YES! So great you got to do this Dereck... Steve, simply one of the nicest legends there is. Still producing vital, progressive music after all of these years. Great interview!!!
I just recently brought two Steve Hackett LPs into my collection. I love how he has carried on with older Genesis material on his tours.Thank you. Derek for getting this wonderful interview to us ! 🎵
Dereck, your love and knowledge of Steve Hackett's music and willingness to sit back and listen really sparked many moments of story telling. I'm awestruck by Steve Hackett's fascination with and desire to explore so many forms of music. I felt that Mr. Hackett really enjoyed it as well and I hope that you reach out to have him back. Thank you!
Wow Dereck. This was such a pleasant surprise!! THANK YOU. Steve Hackett is my favorite guitarist of all time. No one got such haunting sounds from an axe.
This was so good, I can't even tell you. Sent out to all my fellow Genesisarians. And subscribed. How refreshing to hear such an insightful set of questions and answers.
This was a triumph Dereck, what a great interview. Steve mentioning Listen With Mother made me think of Annie Haslam who sings the theme tune on her album Still Life, it's a piece from Faure.
Hey Dereck, Simply captivating, this chat with STEVE. From giving us a little British history on what it was like when he was a child to all the great background of his music that you brought up. Here's hoping there is a part 2 in the future. Great Job. Take care Dereck
Congratulations Dereck! A very nice talk with the larger than life mr. Hackett. Such a gentleman and musical wizard. I'm still can't believe I missed him when he visited my hometown of Bodø in the Norwegian Arctic a few weeks ago... 😭
Brilliant interview. You light Steve up with your genuine enthusiasm for one of the greatest musicians of our time. Steve Hackett is evergreen. Thank you to both of you.
Finally got the chance to enjoy this, and ENJOY I DID! I LOVED that you talked about Please Don’t Touch, with Richie Havens (“Icarus Ascending” with Haven’s vocals is one of the most majestic sounds I have ever heard in my life!), and Randy Crawford; what a beautiful ballad, “Hoping Love Will Last”! The entire album is so good - Chester is wonderful on that record! And Til We Have Faces is another magical record! “Let Me Count The Ways” is just one of the best “12 Bar Blues” recordings ever. It’s great how he expounded on the experiences on recording both of those albums! Another great interview, Dereck, THANK YOU SO MUCH! 👍🏼
Yeah and I just heard by listening to WZRD radio in Chicago that Steve Hackett is going to be in Chicago sometime soon at the Copernicus Center. That's an old theater near Lawrence and Milwaukee in Chicago. It's kind of about a block or so from the Jefferson Park CTA bus and train stop. And so if you want to go to that get your tickets.
Fantastic conversation! So glad you were able to talk to one of your heroes. Always enjoy Steve's interviews and hope to see him perform again on the Lamb tour.
This is a great interview. And cheers to you, Steve, for reaching out not only to Dereck but so many of the YT prog reviewers in the recent weeks. (I am remiss, do need to check out your new album and I will eventually, but to be fair to me I've also bought each album of your early catalog at least three times ; ). ) Dereck, I agree about these performances being milestones as far as bridging the racial chasm in early progressive rock. Plus, wow Richie just sounds wonderful, and Randy does great things with that voice of hers - what a great way to usher in that whole suite of instrumentals/songs that starts the second side! A lot for these same reasons, "Please Don't Touch" is a favorite early SH album of mine, possibly even above Spectral Mornings and Acolyte!
This was good. I just discovered Dereck's channel and subscribed. Thanks for this wonderful interview, guys. Steve should do at least one interview wearing his black framed glasses from the early days... That would be awesome! Why not just once? What do ya say, Steve? 😁 I recently met a guy that works at a health food store in California who, today, looks just like Steve did in the 70's. He's only like 25 years old and never heard of Steve Hackett until I told him he looks just like Steve. 😁.
What I like about Dereck is that he is experienced in life and music but also doesn't really care about UA-cam clicks or views or having an agenda, He's a real human being, and he allows the interviewee to speak.
