    I have been almost nonstop binging your videos lately, I really appreciate the happiness and entertainment they give me. Lately around where I live it's been tons of rain and snow and I've only had a few days in the last couple months to get out and actually skate so having your videos to watch has been great. Seeing how good you are at skating is super inspiring for me to get better myself. Also how genuinely of a great person you seem to be is so enlightening in my life especially with the world today, I really like how in some of your videos you actually talk about your life and some of the things you go through, not to benefit off your struggles obviously but seeing that other people go through things as well especially people i really look up to really helps because I don't feel as alone. I think it's really showing of how great a fanbase you have that you're willing to share personal stuff like that.. You're my favorite skater ever. 🙏🏻💚

    Man. I haven’t always been as fortunate as I am now. I would have to wear the same, to small shoes for over a year at a time. But now we are financially stable and I’m able to skate without worrying when I can get my next pair of shoes. I’m humbled by it and love your lifestyle. 15 years old atm and just got my permit and applied for a job to feed both my addictions and my skating. I’m working on my drug addiction more than anything rn. But yeah. Thank you for being inspiring my man, been watching for a while.

    I'm 48. I wear very thick padded shoes on a regular basis. I recently got the Vallely Cariuma shoes and was surprised how stretchable and comfortable they were even after skating 4 hours. Unfortunately Vans these days are too narrow and this very uncomfortable for me.

      @@JohnHill back in the late 80's & 90's Vans had wide shoes and Airwalk were wide too. Today, companies like Vans like to make shoes narrower to use less material and save money in the manufacturing process, so they can make more profit. Unfortunately, it ends up in an unwearable product for my son and I, and the fact that the Cariumas stretch to our wider feet, saves our soles. I was initially weary of paying so much and of the cork inserts, but I have been pleasantly surprised in the durability and comfort from them. I'm really glad that Mike Vallely suggested then to me.

    14:45 My advice for skating any shoe with a fat tongue is to lace them up all the way to the last loop and tight them more than you usually would. It might look not as great but it improves the performance soooo much. That way you get a really good snug fit and also excellent protection.

    • @kmrskates
      @kmrskates 2 роки тому +4

      John Hill seems pretty air headed to not tie any of his shoes properly to get optimal fit, then give them a bad score. Go figure from this soulless YT skater

    • @fifthgear93
      @fifthgear93 2 роки тому +4

      @@kmrskates I would never call him souless, he seems like a good guy. But he is probably very used to skating low profile vans shoes which do not usually require tightening up. The fat tongue of any puffy shoe gives a lot of play left in the fit of the shoe and this is why your heel might lift up if you don't lace it up all the way. This is something that is quite dangerous and really makes your shoe feel floppy which is why I always lace to the top.

    • @kmrskates
      @kmrskates 2 роки тому +2

      @@fifthgear93 I find that quite the opposite. ALL of low profile Vans shoes have required me to tighten them all the way up if I were to skate them and not just chill in them. Their usually thin tongues and minimal padding leaves too much play in the fit that they beg to be tied tighter to fit optimally. Fatter tongues and more padding actually allows you to wear them looser while still fitting snug, since that padding takes up any loose space that is normally tightened down via the laces.
      All my low cut shoes are laced to the top when skating, or second from the top if I am chilling in them, so no disagreements with ya there!
      The SILO SC specifically has a roomier fit throughout the shoe, including the heel/ankle area, so that explains John's issue in this video. Got a lace it to the top for best fit while skating.
      I personally find him insufferable, but he's doing his thing to get views so it pays for his lifestyle. Can't argue with that too much, I guess.

    My problem is width. They always seemed to me to be designed for people with dainty feet. I wear a 3E/4E width and the only shoe I have come across that is wide on top and still has a wide enough sole (although a couple more millimeters wouldn't hurt the sole) are the Globe Sabres.

      I don't know. But it's good that you wrote this down! In terms of looks, I like these styles of shoes in every way, like Sabre and impeccable on the outside. It holds my ankle well, but I have a problem with its width. The shoe narrows so much at the front that it hurts both my little toe and big toe. Blisters are now calluses. Maybe it should have been half a number larger, because I like it anyway. Thanks! This helped me realize that the shoes weren't bad. It's just the size. (btw mine is the black - moto green colorway) Peace

    I've been going through skate shoes my whole life from ES, World Industry, DVS, DCs, Vans, etc and my favorite style for skating is the puffy tongue ES looking ones but I prefer the slip-on ones for just wearing around... Recently I've been looking for a good pair of BMX shoes for every day wear and now I'm curious about those Amazon specials, those look decent for daily wear. Great video... Keep up the great work.

    Glad it’s not just me that thinks a lot of shoes are uncomfortable - even reading through the comments it seems like a lot of people have similar experiences to me.
    I have a size US11 foot but it’s wide, but I also have really sensitive feet to the point where I can’t break in shoes without being in stupid amounts of pain and literally having to take time off walking.
    I used to love Vans, Fallen and Etnies for fit out of the box but I haven’t had any good experiences with them in years.
    The best luck I’ve had for my wide/sensitive foot problems lately have been Globe cupsoles as well as Cariuma Catiba’s. I got some cheap canvas shoes off eBay too and they fit quite well but can tell they also won’t last long.
    I also started using various FP insoles and found they helped a lot, even just the 3mm ones made a huge difference in my Globe shoes.
    Thanks for this video, made me feel a little less crazy in my endless pursuit of trying to find shoes that allow me to skate without feeling like I’m dying 😂

    Great video! You should do a second one ranking the shoes again after they broke in. I haven't tried many brands mostly Nike, Vans, Adidas and Converse and in recent years I switched to Emerica and I have been hooked ever since, especially since the pair of Indicators I had lasted over a year of constant hardcore skating, compared to half cabs which I always liked but to be honest in a better case they lasted about a month.

    The eS are actually the Koston eS shoe from the early 2000s just rebranded. I've had those when they came out, and the Carrols are a reissue, had a few pairs of those during those years. My fav is the kyle walkers right now, the lace up version is sick for skating. Old school lows use to be my fav but the redesign skate shoes from vans are a miss with that shoe, totally don't fit right I did like the previous version of those the 'pros'. I also like the new half cabs though, they're good after you really break them in. But I'm now sold on Kyle Walkers, really impressed even bought another pair for leisure.

    Also give those eS shoes a little more time to break in. They are a thicker cupsole so of course they would break in slower. Give it a day more and they'll be perfect. Also keep in mind that the model you got is leather is not suede and that is why your flick might be different.

    Have you tried the vans kyle walker 1s (lace up, not velcro)?
    They are the only comfortable skate shoes I've had since seemingly everybody started messing around with vulcs.
    I loooved cupsoles back in the 90s/00s.
    Now it seems almost all skate shoes are vulcs and hurt my feet.
    The kyle walkers feel great like a cupsole but have some of the pros of vulcs 👍

    • @PHeMoX
      @PHeMoX 2 роки тому +2

      You have to look harder though. There are lots of cupsole skate shoes. And in my mind, except for perhaps the beefiest of thick shoes like Osiris D3-type stuff, they're all superior to vulc shoes in terms of comfort. Arguably something like the Es Accel Slim is a very great skate shoe when it comes to being comfortable, but still having boardfeel. It's one of their thinner shoes. The Es Cykle is also great when it comes to that, very snug shoe that definitely allows an experienced skater to do very technical tricks. I'm an older dude and honestly, I prefer cupsole skate shoes pretty much 100% of the time. I've tried vulc, but the better boardfeel and control of the flick is just not really a benefit to me at all. In my mind the eS Symbol and eS Evants have decent boardfeel. It's just perhaps less so a shoe that instantly works the first day you skate them. But for a skate shoe that lasts so much longer than any of the others, I frankly don't care. My eS Evants have lasted me literally 6 months. Not even joking and the pair is still skateable. Don't expect pro level skating from my side or even daily skating. I have a fulltime job, sadly don't got time for that daily skating grind. But I did regularly skate them and they're perfect in terms of durability (hence me getting a second pair).

    Emerica G6 cupsoles, like the Juilian Davidson Gamma G6, the Spanky G6 (although it's lack of padding up top bums me out and I'm not super into the look), and now they'll be releasing the KSL G6 sometime soon as well. That G6 cupsole is amazing! First experience with it was the Reynolds G6, and I am convinced it is still one of the best skate shoes I've ever had on my feet. I was super sad to see it go, which is why I'm so hyped for Julian's Gamma G6. Also recently gotten way into the New Balance Numeric 1010s. It was hard to justify dropping $100 on a pair of skate shoes, but they're the most comfortable shoe I've ever skated.Took a couple of sessions to get used to the 1010s as far as less board feel goes, but either option is a super comfortable shoe built for skateboarding. 1 issue though If you have wide feet the elasticated tongue inside the shoe can really hurt your feet for the first few sessions but.
    If I remember correctly this was always an issue with some es shoes.
    Instead of breaking them in you can always snip both sides of the tongue(where the elastic runs down to the soles)with scissors and the excessive tightness is eliminated.

    As someone who religiously skates vans, The old skools you’re wearing are the “classic style”
    And they switched from “Pros” to “Skates” about a year ago and the new “Skate Old Skools” are worlds better for skating. Better insole, better quality laces and suede and pretty much a rubber toe cap that’s underneath the suede
    (The same insoles in the Kyle walker 2’s you were skating are the same ones in the new “Skate Old Skools”)

      I love these. The board feel is great. They are light. And I love the look. However they are a bit on the narrow side so I had to size up by half a size. I actually skate more in my Emerica Temples - which I was not super excited about at first, but now that they're broken in...They're pretty amazing. Not nearly as much boardfeel as the DC LZ's, just enough, but make up for it with an extremely grippy sole and for me, slightly more comfort while skating

    Hey John, do you have any tips for ordering skate shoes online? I don't want to end up with the wrong size shoe. Are skate shoe sizes pretty much the exact same across the board(lol)? I have a pair of Vans shoes that I have worn out, but I can use that shoe size as a reference. That's my only experience with actual name brand skate shoes, I used to rock the Walmart brand skate shoes but I can never find them anymore, and also there are no skate shops within reasonable driving distance of me.

    Oh boy how I hope these old core brands can maintain a respectful space in our community. From the bottom of my old head heart. Working in a skateshop for years now, I am afraid though that sales wise there is no comparison to the faceless two companies and to vans.
