Ego death is a feature of using Hallucinogenic plants. I wish he would have shared this with the woman inquiring about practices to bring this about.
It is a basic precept within the Buddhist Vinaya to refrain from taking substances that befuddle the mind. This rules out the usage of hallucinogens. Even if we can draw some parallels or point to pragmatism potentially in such practices, Bodhi would not be able to advocate for the breaking of this precept.
