Any of the DJI pilot's like my self, if they haven't already they have considered buying an aftermarket antenna for these goggles, they are already awesome goggles, but will this make them better? Should we spend another $80 to $100 dollars on antennas, does it make your range better?

5.8 does not have any "penetration" your test should be done in open areas with no obstacles.
What does that mean, all frequencies of antenna have a level of penetration, that was an ideal test that he did, using vegetation and hoses as obstructions, something just about every fpv pilot will most often encounter. Why would you do it in an open area?

as for the antenna, i dont think much was achieved by switching, didnt really make much of a difference for distance. but hey, as long as your enjoying it!!! thats what matters hey.

These are directional biquads, you have to be facing where you quad is within its beam forming area. It's not magic, it just takes the energy it normally would direct to the sides of you and behind you, and throws it all forward instead. So you are going to have serious dead zones to the size and behind you... not an antenna you use if you fly around yourself with you in the center standing still. It's scary how many people in radio control know actually or understand very much at all about the "radio" part of it. These are used by people flying primarily in front of themselves and going for a long range distance shot in open air line of sight.

"You lost me at DJI"..yep...lol...We were just talking about this type of antenna today. one of the DJI pilots (not me....nope....never) was saying how it felt like he got great range using the Cyclops type antenna (not sure of the name)......as long as he was looking right at the quad. If he strayed too far out of the radiation cone it got worse fast...he went back to omni's and patches..
Steve. Just got a dji fpv unit. Been flying analogue for 5 odd years. The difference is similar to what I remember when we went from crt to flat screen tvs. (For me in New Zealand this happened at the same time we went to digital tv). I still fly analogue at times but dji has way better range and the quality really spoils you. I wish I bought my dji sooner.
@@MrAndrewparrish Good for you.Really..👍 .DJI has proven to be nothing but troublesome in my experience and I don't like them as a company.A pretty picture at the cost of others does not add up to a plus in my book...That's why I held out for another digital system that doesn't openly conflict with other systems in use. If R/C had any actual protection from the FCC DJI would likely fail to comply with part 15 and have to rethink their system as it clearly conflicts with others..a no go under that section..Their goggles alone can shoot down adjacent systems..If DJI owners show up while I'm flying I usually just pack up in resignation and go fly somewhere else as experience has proven to me it's just not worth the effort /

@@steve_beatty...In what capacity have you had "experience" with DJI? I'm in no way a fan boy, some of my quads I will always fly analog, but I think calling it "a pretty picture at the cost of others" Is pretty unfair. First off, the picture is leaps and bounds above anything analog has to offer, with almost the same latency, in some cases better latency. Plus there's many of us that often fly on our own, or with others on DJI. Plus Ghost and I think Crossfire, have the new hybrid or an rx part of their ecosystem that hooks direction to vtx, or dji vista, can eliminate certain channels while still performing the channel hopping feature that makes the control link so solid. I know with ghost, you can now program your vtx/dji channels with the quad off, so when you power up, there's no, "oh crap, what channel and power did I leave this on last time I used this quad."
Plus, since when does the FCC try actually try and enforce anything, the last thing they made a stink about was Hobby King in 2018 for selling something that transmits to high a power.
@@sunshynff Wow..a year later...lol..My experience with dji ? That "pretty center image" has cost me a field where we used to have about 7 + analog flyers now replaced with 3 dji users on 50 mbps and 1.2w and unwilling to budge... they assimilated 2 ..1 of them quit flying altogether...a few went back to rc planes out of frustration ..what was left flies elsewhere..their standard answer to interference ? "You should buy DJI"..like frikken parrots they were....not a single analog pilot left there...They seem to be typical of every dji user I run into..I was flying with one recently....a stranger that walked up on me and a friend flying at a school...tried to gently persuade him that flying with others on 50mbps and 1.2w was impolite...didn't matter...like I said..not all about a pretty center image..it's also about playing well with others..a huge fail on dji's part....

When you have no LOS going through an entire house it doesn't matter how much DBI you have. It's been tested to clearly be better when you actually have LOS. That's physics not a problem with the antenna
WTF does that even mean? dBi is a ALWAYS a factor, to what degree is what varies. What does line of site have to do with anything, if he was LOS, then why would he being wearing fpv goggles? DERP. Physics is the science of matter and energy, such as mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms, I'm pretty sure almost everything in FPV quads fall under physics, that like you test driving a Honda Civic advertised to do 150mph on the freeway and you only get it up to 110, and the car salesmen goes, well you were driving with with a head wind and no LOS, so that's physics man, not a problem with the car.
Regardless, he said plain as day, THIS IN NO WAY IS A SCIENTIFICLY ACCURATE TEST, JUST A GUY FLYING DOWN THE STREET.

1200 is illegal and is a part of why noob DJI pilots cause problems with analog users if the DJI pilot modded their gear. That and their 2 way system....not sure how they got THAT past the FCC...A couple guys I know have done it and we have an agreement where they fly lower wattage then me so we can fly together. Plus a few other things I have to do like avoid flying close to them when they arm or between them and their quads in the air for long. I flew with one of them today. Suffered one complete blackout when he turned his goggles on , wanted to change channels and scrolled to my channel while sitting 10 feet away....not his quad..his goggles..Luckily he heard me yelling and turned them off right away and I got my view back..lol.....Who knew just the goggles alone would interfere ??
I'm pretty sure I heard you say at the beginning of the video it an rhcp stock dji is lhcp. So if your quad is lhcp and the stock antennas are lhcp, then this test is completely irrelevant.

Call me crazy but I think if you were a little higher off the ground you might have had better reception overall, but even more so with the cyclops.

I am disappointed that you are flying in a built up area, flying over a road without a spotter. No one had line of sight of your quad, radio frequencies are generated around properties. With all due respect, you failed the risk assessment and if you have public liability insurance a claim against you will succeed. Your behaviour is exactly what the Drone Advisory Commission [DAC] is and will use, to limit recreational flying.
They're going through with it regardless of anything.. Including a 100% perfect safety rating.. When this all goes through, the only people who are limited are the pussies who are too scared. Large scale Non-compliance is the only way to win with the FAA.
