Would you ever consider doing an instructional video on how to read the ocean conditions and determine what are the safest/best days to go out on a kayak? Or possibly other ocean kayak fishing how tos? I really want to get into it but I know so little about it and want to do it safely but just don't know where to start.
Hey Chris I’m a huge fan of your channel. Quick question…. Is tamales bay/hog island fishable for crab right now with all of these storms and big swell? Figured since I saw your comment on here I’d hit you up. Loved that last solo crab video of yours. I fish from a kayak so can’t get out as deep as yon your boat.
@@Stoops1973 hey jeff, there wont be a swell in tomales bay unless your near the mouth. Yes its fishable for crab. I would strongly recommond you go when the current is slow. For that look for a small tide change. Good luck
nice. That reminds me of a time when I was 13 years old fishing under a commercial license off the coast of Boinas, where I grew up. I caught a 30 lb lingcod, It promptly barfed up a 2 lb octopus... Which I stuck on my jig and send it back down, Got another one just like it. The conditions were absolutely the same: crystal clear water and no swell. One could see fish all over the place down there. That same day I caught a 20 lb Atlantic Cod. It looked about like a lingcod but didn't have the teeth and it was black. long way from the Atlantic... Peace, man.
Another great video Adam. Absolutely love the eel/ling challenge. Lings are undefeated. And those fish are huge. Was this trip after your video with Taku and the great white?
Nice work Adam. On Jan 5th 2023 we said goodbye to our Seacliff pier as it crumbled into the ocean while pounded by 30 ft swells. Capitola pier is also severely damaged where a large chunk in the middle of the pier is now missing and the piers piling severely damaged. May not be boat rentals in 2023 at Capitola giving kayakers great opportunities to fish the local reefs with less fishing pressure.
Adam, Nice Ling. As you well know your bait for Lings, the Monkey Faced is great eating. You skin them like a catfish and fry them in oil. All they have is a backbone, which separates from the two sides when fried. Taste almost as good as the Ling.
What was in its belly when it hit the filet table? I pulled a 22# cabby outta the puget Sound last year that had 4 fist sized red rock crab in its belly! Your vids are the very best!!!
So cool! I use an artificial that looks much like an eel. Won many jackpots on party boats over the years with it. I understand more about why after your video. Thanks for providing content like this!
Wow! Nice way to end the season! I got at least 6 keepers over the last month and a half… swim baits, squid, jigs. But next year, I’m switching to live bait. Already got my blue bullet bait holder. (Hope it’s the 2.0.) Also, switching from the Humminbird to the Garmin I just purchased, simplify my fish finder. Hope there’s a season! 5 months, then deeper water? Well done, DHF! P.S. Just returned from Humboldt yesterday, Eel River full and flowing, looking murky, but I did see one guy from Hwy 101 wading for steelies. In between these “atmospheric rivers”! Hang on for this next one California!
DHF! I didn’t know there was a special email/UA-cam post area! Lol! Thanks for all the replies over the years. Didn’t Mae to ignore your replies! Pretty sure I’m going out with Nick next Monday. Keep you posted. Keep up the great work. I’ve learned so much from you. Caught A LOT of surf perch and stripers using your lessons! Thanks !!! Now, need to learn halibut. And, shoot, guess I’ll have to wait for salmon. Bad news.
Adam, those foam grips on your gaff are crap. Find someone to tie a diamond pattern cord handle. If you want your gaff to float, fill it with spray foam insulation or wrap the mid-section with pipe insulation foam (like those kids pool noodles, just not so thick).
Love your videos man! I'm an amateur angler myself based in SD too, setting up my kayak gear at the moment... From what I've gathered, I should expect to get reels accomodating 30-65 lb braid spooled at least 4-500 yards? What do you think? Appreciate the tips.
It seems like you should bring the fish in on the other side of you kayak. I've missed a few fish gaffing them on the side you are fishing. I have had any problem since I switched sides. Unless you are left handed. Are you?
My bait was better. :>) Once at the farallons I was bringing up a rockfish when I realized that a huge Ling had it in it's jaws. The boat boy yelled "Don't lift it out of the water". He ran up with the gaff and pulled a 37# Ling aboard. I kept the bait too.
Adam, I would love it if showed the contents of the fish's stomach at the end of your vids. I know it sounds kind of gross, but I have learned so much on what fish forage on bu doing this. Examples - sculpin with whole crabs or octopus - Sand bass with a huge rock crab - Calico Bass and Johnny bass with blue shrimp - 40 LB yellowtail with a whitefish I use shrimp lures in the Kelp now and they get crushed.
Adam can respond, but I would speculate that those were eggs. This type of year it's typical to find very large female lings, ready to breed, in shallow water like this.
I’m going to have to start using live bait , I’ve been using 5-9” swim baits the last few years but haven’t be able to catch anything over 30”. You make catching jumbos look so easy.
It was over 50 years ago for me. I tell people how good it was back then....nobody believes me. I also tell them what destroyed it......nobody believes that either, plus I get yelled at sometimes.
@@mrkaep No... all cabbies have blue meat and internal organs. Additionally, their roe is poisonous and shouldn't be eaten. Perhaps, you've caught an Irish Lord and have mistaken it for a cabezon. They are also, like cabbies, a type of sculpin and are often mistaken for cabezon...
Damn awesome day of fishing! Just throwing out an idea for a future video of u and the gang. its called a weather report.
Just catching your bait looks already fun haha.
Thank you for posting another great video!
Glad you enjoy it!
@@DieHardFishing Thank you! Happy New Year!
Beautiful clear blue water, great fishing, you've got this down, congrats.
Man U have come a long ways.Your a friction pro now. Thanks for sticking with it. Nice fish! Keep 'em coming
Great job. Good info on the eels, thanks.
You should try gripping it up with some tennis racquet grip tape. That might be less likely to slip. Does it float on it's own without the grip?
Thanks for the suggestion!
Another great video. 🎉 watching some of the old ones. Haven’t been watching you for a while. Great to be back.
Well done Adam! You sure found a good ling bait! Great video!

LOL poor eel. But man, those things work really well
Nice Cabazon, can't keep those in Oregon until July.
Great video Adam, job well done
With all the rain I wasn't able to go out for closer to catch one more ling. Have to wait till April. Nice fish Adam.

I saw that, super sad to see them go! I spent a lot of time fishing those piers as a kid!
@@DieHardFishing Found pictures from 1999-2000-2001 with the Seacliff pier crew, yourself and your dad all with fish. Best of luck in 2023

Hey there Mr. Adam, I think you need a shorter gaff for yer kayak.
That long handle is better suited to tall gunnels on bigger vessels

Dude! I am loving this video!!! Man that first cab is SOOOOOO big! I love this
22:10 is that your reel or spot lock on trolling motor I'm hearing?
Adam you should put som cork rod wrap on that gaf it comes with waterproof sticky tape.

Very cool! I'm not surprised!!!!
Michael what type of fish did you catch on artificial lure like eel?
Nice. On the east coast, cobia and eels are a great combo. Tight lines
Nice pacific ling cod I don’t often keep the big ones from Area 14
Thanks for sharing! Great fishing trip!
Cool video, the eel bait was way cool. They are like candy bait for Lingcod
Magnificent Ling! Congratulations... Fish-on!

Awesome video! Just learned about those eels a month ago. Mind doing a video running through all your rod and reel setups?
Sure thing!
Awesome video! Keep up the good work!
Adam, you are having so much fun out there. Thank you for the great video.
Thanks for watching!
Very Kool just catching the bait! Great video brother!
Try using sandpaper type tape on your gaff handles for better grips
that is a monster! Love it! Eels working their magic!
Your Ling videos have been amazing!! The visibility is so nice.
Glad you like them!
Killing it! Love the eel for big ling combo. Electrical tape for the gaff (middle) is $$$. Happy new year 🎆.
Thanks for the tip!
What rod are you using? Nice lings, I'm in Oregon and we get some decent ones in the kayak.
Great job Adam, always impressed with your fishing videos, best of luck this 2023, happy new year tight lines 🎣👍

Awesome Fishing!
Thank you for the great content. What does lingcod taste like ?
Similar to a fish and chips style fish typically sold in restaurants

damn ! what a big ling.. Looked like a damn dragon.
Next year rumors suck. hope you guys will find a way around it.
nice 👍 but I thought the rockfish season already closed?
It is closed. This was filmed before Jan 1
Can you give us some of your locations for good fishing? I fish Monterey Bay and have no luck.
Great video, use skateboard grip tape on the gaff

Uline has anti slip tape. Try using that for your gaff.
Crazy day with the Eels! Replace that flimsy Gaff grip with Hockey tape or something. Put some string under it for grip.

Hey Adam what do you do with all the fish you keep?
Lovely. What a way to end the season!

How come you let those lings go?They were ur target spieces n legal weren't they? 🤔🎣 Just curious 👍
Hey guys Important question! Are we allowed to fish off kayaks for rockfish through January??in California
Off the shore open year round. Regulations still apply. Off shore kayak, charters etc. Season ends Dec 31st
Only for surf fishing or diving I believe other fishing til April
Adam: What an incredible catch; even for you. When did you find such calm seas and a sunny day in the last week plus; or in the next 10 days?

Whats your rod and reel?
Got in some nice Lingcod Great video.
How do you know the tide, an swell for the day, is there a App?
Can you use eel for halibut
looks like you always fish within shore, do you ever go 2-3 miles into ocean? or is it too dangerous?
Thanks for the great videos much appreciated
Adam, love your videos always entertaining I have to ask you what was the rumor
Dear kayaker. You have now become part of the food chain!
What bait do you use to catch the eel?
Awesome Ling!
Does this beat the previous pb for ling?
can you put a 3rd treble hook in the middle ?
Two hooks max per line
That cabi had the same blueish color that some of the lings have.
Is that common?
All cabbies have blue meat until it's been cooked...
@@kingslew1866 definitely not all. A percentage of them, just like lings.

Rule #1 or close to it- Put fish on stringer, then talk about them~~can't lose it if locked on stringer. Nice catching sir~
What was in the lingcod stomach?
Really awesome video!
WELL DONE VIDEO!
Wow that viz was insane! I'd love to spearfish in conditions like those 🤿 Awesome video
Holee cow! What a toad! Great video from bait to boat.
Great video. It would be awesome to see what is inside its stomach.
It’s likely full of eggs, it’s breeding season, if true it would be a shame those eggs were not released before it was captured.
So why are you not planning on doing anymore Ling fishing for a while?
That extra effort to get those ugly suckers, really paid off! Gratz dude.
Please update us on what was in his belly! 🐠
Yes, would love to know what was in his or her belly ?
Where was this at ?
Stay safe bro! Incoming storm
Taking my lunch break to watch this video !!!
Winter lings.trophy fish. Alot less worms.
