I cannot believe valve updated hl1 like this, its a big moment
4 new multiplayer maps actually goes crazy ngl. Plus they all look beautiful with the lighting adjustments.
@@ruzgar1372yeah they actually doubled the gold source engines capabilities just to make it which is why the maps look higher poly compared to most half life maps
Now Valve calls this the definitive version, leaving the Source version to rot more until it can't load any of its maps anymore.
Well now that Black Mesa exists, what is the point of HL source? ;-)

Valve the type of company that gives a more than 20 year old game an update before tf2 gets an actual update made by valve.

it is the 25th anniversary for Half-Life 1.
maybe we'll get a major update for the 25th anniversary of TF2? (unlikely, we're probably going to get a update for Half-Life 2 Episode 2 before that happens)
Half-Life is now old enough to rent a car without having to pay extra for insurance as well as have a quarter-life crisis.
The GUI changes look good. It will help to make Half-Life run better on the Steam Deck.

@@Trashboat4444 I got used to the small hud. It felt clean. Also I'm a cranky old man who doesn't like change. I do a lot of challenge runs and have a high amount of hours in half-life so any change just feels jarring to me. I heard they also fixed some of the spots where you get stuck to the ground. That's a very welcome change. That happened to me trying to live stream a no death run and it was a huge bummer lol. I was in surface tension and went through a loading screen, got stuck to the ground and had to restart Xd

@@ramiams862probably soon because I was watching a stream earlier and the person streaming tried to run blue shift but it crashed but for whatever reason opposing force still worked
Gone are the days of people screaming at new players to disable hd models, we've entered the age of people screaming at new players to turn off texture filtering.
OG Half-Life should have texture filtering (smoothing) on though. Without texture filtering it looks like DOOM.

It is purchasable but the steam page for the game has been hidden from the storefront. If you have a link to it you can still buy the game. That's how I bought the original skyrim instead of the special edition even though the original is hidden, I found a link to the original's store page and bought it from there.
The scale the HUD is so freaking weird to look at. Part of me kind of wishes there was an option to turn off the scaled HUD, but I'm glad they fixed it.

Yeah I don't like it. You can play the pre updated version in the betas tab.
@@kazcav since I play the game primarily at 1080p the HUD was still at a decent enough size so I can see it. Like I said it's simply just because I'm not used to seeing the HUD scaled like this.
I play at 1080p as well but I found the hud too small back im the pre-25th anniversary update. The hud was obviously designed for 640x480 resolution and I am glad the hud is finally big enough that I don't have to squint my eyes
Still too bad is not the og hl1 retail menu but hey at least is something

NICE! Having a quick way to replay Uplink is amazing. Loved that miniature-sized game cause I can't really call it a demo.
The new update is awesome and everything but don't let's not forget that it broke Counter-Strike 1.6 and the rest of the Valve games that are installed within the Half-Life folder. I mean, you can manually opt in/out in the beta tab by using the pre 25th update but still.
How did it break 1.6?

@@XanderNiles Man that stinks. I reverted to the old version anyway. I don't like how the hud changed and was afraid of it breaking Opposing Force.
Great! But only the run is too much faster (I was thinking he just fly lol, I must setup the speed video here at 0.5x), for have much realistic run, can you try at remove some speed?

released an update and broke the game. After the intro there is a black screen. Before the update, the game started in 1 second.
You can revert to the pre update version.

This update is crazy but it did one thing wrong, you can't play most mods unless you use the pre-anniversary beta build.
And that is why you CAN use the previous build.

Too Much Coffee Man!
I can't play counter strike 1.6 other half life mods I've installed Valve had to fix this issue
cs 1.6 is standalone but you can play the alpha to 1.5
cs 1.6 requires steam half-life and we can't play it because client dll is not configured to mods@@ryonagana
I heard you can if you revert back to pre update version. I sure hope so.
