I loved Vanessa's comment at the very end because it's exactly what I was thinking while watching this. That dog's previous groomer was right to refuse to groom him anymore.
I can't fault the dog. He didn't choose his life, it's just what we humans have bred them to be like. Clearly there needed to be breaks for Neko to calm down (if there was any, it's edited out) from the looks of the video she kept pushing him when he was giving every warning sign he was completely stressed out and exhausted. He's utterly flooded with panic, which is distressing to see. I know it was hard on the groomer, but she has the foresight of being a human that understands what going on - he doesn't. Yes, the owners should've trained him well, desensitized him ect- why wasn't he given any kind of medicine to help with his anxiety prior? It just feels cruel. Plus we have no idea what the previous groomer did, maybe he has some trauma related to that?
@@denverdubois5835yeah, this kinda nonsense is cute when it doesn’t actually cause any issues like it’s a drama trick, in this case it’s just the dog making everyone miserable and making their job harder
@@Undernewmanagment People who think dramatic dogs are "cute" have never had a huge dog punch them with a paw for real. It can be dangerous. And the dog learns that through throwing a tantrum it can get whatever it wants
As a vet tech, I’d say this dog could greatly benefit from oral sedatives, like trazodone, before a grooming appointment. It would make him more manageable and less stressed. I hope they talk to their vet about it.
Not every trainer/behaviorist is up to the task. I've encountered situations where the dog doesn't listen despite this. Owners ask questions about what else can be done, despite going to the trainer - my answer is "change the trainer."
Not everyone adopts puppies. I inhereted two monsters. They only want hugs when outside the house, they will bite if you even try while inside. You can never touch their paws ever. Plus they cant even be in the same room as each other if a human is near. Its vicious. Yet both still somehow prefer to sleep together when your out of the room and love going on walks or herd animals together. I have them for 2 years now and I know they like me because they are so dramatic when I leave or come home, but they are terrible in most ways both to people and eachother. Sometimes you get what you get.
Ive never seen a dog act like this. Im so grateful we dont get breeds like this. Too dramatic, loud and just..uhg. im sure they can be lovely dogs, but people need to train them. We had a Rottweiler and she was beloved by every groomer she ever went to. She had short fur, but we liked to make sure her nails and fur was kept healthy. Loved every groomer she went to and was loved in turn. Miss her.
It’s a case of the owner being in charge or the dog being in charge, I’m guessing he’s the boss, not for everyone As a disclaimer: I’m a life member of the parent club and had malamutes in multiples for over 30 years and none of them acted like this…
@@LBB2622well unfortunately this dog has seemed to learn that he does all this people stop so he continues this happens too often you got lucky that no dog you’ve ever worked with was like that cause it’s a lot of work for groomers like her
Have any of you thought he could actually be in pain? I know this breed is stubborn and needs a lot of training, but watching him my first thought was, the poor dog could have some underlying health issue with his legs
I used to have an alaskan malamute when i was much younger (she passed when i was 14) and i remember needing to brush her myself because she became aggressive when i or my mother wasnt in eye sight and so we never risked taking her to a groomer. Sometimes if youre dog just cant cope you need to do things yourself and i think Neko is defo a dog that requires the same.
She sounded like a very loyal friend though. I have a feeling that spirit which people think is negative here is actually positive outside the grooming environment. Dogs weren't bred to just be pretty.
@@emmalouie1663 I agree. She/he seemed to enjoy being pet and given treats not the grooming part - I’m guessing she was hurt by another groomer obviously my mistake. Perhaps they trimmed her nails too short or cut her/him or something. Idk… just my observation. The groomer who I’ve enjoyed a lot of her other videos seemed to not have much patience and love towards the dog this particular day. Maybe the service should’ve been kept short and tried to groom the dog in intervals to get it used to trusting her as a groomer.
I understand why Vanessa doesn't want to groom this dog again. It clearly needs training. So many people own difficult dog breeds and don't know how to manage them. It's quite irresponsible!
@@zzzbbbooo No pet groomer has to put up with your dog just because you sucked at training him. Grow up, if you can't make your dog behave then try a more friendly breed.
No. If you look at a few comments here, you will see that other Malamute owners say Nico acts exactly like their dog. What are the odds that their dog just happens to act exactly like Nico? Did these dogs have the same groomer? Sorry, but a lot of it is innate. Certain breeds have certain characteristics. For example, German Shepherds act like loons at the groomer. Huskies sing the song of their people and freak out, a lot like Malamutes. I could go on, but breed has a lot to do with temperament. You may like to think you are totally in control and have trained angel dogs, but you probably like a certain breed that doesn't act this way, or you got lucky. I learned this after thinking I had trained my black labs to be wonderful angels and I housetrained them all within a few weeks tops. Then I got a papillon. She was SO STUBBORN about house training. I never gave up. It took one entire year to train her not to go in the house. She had to be watched 24/7 and be behind gates when not within eyeshot. She was quick too. It was a test of will. One whole year later and she finally learned. She finally told me she had to go out. And I learned...little dogs are very hard to housetrain. I never judged another person for not having a perfectly housetrained dog again. Little dogs also protest with their teeth when you do something to them that they dont like, btw. I was shocked. I know now that breed has a lot to do with temperament and I wasn't the expert on training dog angels I thought I was. Black labs are just born angels. 😊
@@mygirldarby You wrote a whole essay....but it still comes down to the fact that this Malamute needs training. They are a stubborn breed, but they can still be well behaved if the owners take socialization, training and desensitization seriously when the dog is young. No breed should be acting like this - this dog has obviously never learned patience or how to deal with situations it doesn't really like. I doubt this dog listens to commands it doesn't want to do.....and thats a problem. Like children, dogs need discipline - this behavior isn't cute once the dog is full grown. NTM without the muzzle, it could have bitten her multiple times in this video.
My Husky was 100% full drama with the mouthing and kicking. Thankfully never a true bite or nip but he would mouth while screaming; kinda funny actually. His daughter, 1/2 chocolate lab and 100% oops(long story), has all the screaming and drama and kicking but hides her face and turns into a screaming bread loaf. 😂 Huskies ❤
I went into this video with the mindset of “Every dog deserves a chance, even ones who act out because of anxiety or fear, bless his parents and Vanessa for giving him a chance!” Very quickly realized that wasn’t the vibe. What a drama llama 😂
Yeah -- opera indeed. 😂 I'm betting it's the canine version of "Nessun Dorma" (Italian for "None Shall Sleep"), because dang! That howling version of "Vincero!" ( I will win/conquer) was very convincing, and would keep anyone awake! 😂😂 Disclaimer: Yes, I know the story behind the aria. 😜 I was attempting to be humorous with it. I am only adding the disclaimer just because there is someone in the comments with a cob up their rear ends, being uber-serious (I will not mention any username specifically), and I have zero desire to do battle with that one. People like that are heckin' exhausting. 🙄
@@a.katherinesuetterlin3028 Now you say it I can hear the similarity. Neko is the malamute Pavarotti! 😂 Sadly not everyone can just take a jokey comment for what it is. I just reply to them with more jokes (often of the Dad variety) to try and cancel out their negativity.
@@swanronson173 I'm a Star Wars nerd myself. Mind you, Pavarotti was a master of his craft, but I will admit, there are other tenors whose voices and performances of that aria that I prefer.
What I've learnt from this channel: every week someone else is handling my puppy without me i the room. He's getting his feet and legs touched every day until he's fine with it. I don't have a puppy but have been theoretically training all my 35 years. Before I watched your videos I thought I'd be fine with socialising here and there, but seeing a dog like this makes me understand how important it is to teach your dog that discomfort/displeasure is no excuse to whine or misbehave. Huskies being cats, they don't count cause I'll never get one living in the city of couse. But my first dog will definitely behave better than this or I'll never show my face again
Famous last words! Huskies are great but need lots of exercise especially running and they need their brains worked out loads. It is possible to have one in the city. We run ours on the bike and hope to have him pulling a kick sled next year. He has a big attitude and a permanent side-eye so of course we adore him.
I know nothing about dogs but i trained my cat to tolerate leg and belly touching. this is part of medical training so the cat at least knows that humans sometimes touch their belly. If i manage to teach my cat ppl surely will manage to teach their dog with enough effort, right? Are Huskys so difficult to train?
Seriously, MAD props to you Vanessa for handling this amount of work with a very stressed out dog!! Commendable is not even a good enough word for your dedication 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Instead of shake count i think he needs slap count. Slapped at dryer, slapped at the house and slapped at you 😮 i have had such wonderful cats and dogs but Neko is reminding me why it’s okay to go without for a while.
No, the dog is panicking. It's amazing he didn't soil the area from how stressed he was. Though it does look at one point he may have peed on her leg out of fear. It's not really funny, it's just upsetting to see.
Don’t want to demonize the owners since we don’t know their story but someone didn’t put in the work to socialize/desensitize this dog. I completely see why he was “fired” from the other groomer.
Well everyone does have different budgets for pets. Every dog is different to o degrees of personality. And also there's "groomer deserts " in some areas , where the service just isn't available in that city. I wouldn't be so quick to judge. At the end of the day we don't know the owners .
@@grimmick9446 still can desensitize your dog by bathing it at home, blow drying it at home, cutting its nails, touching its paws as a puppy, etc. all of which were clearly not done with this dog.
You have absolutely no idea whether that is true or not. I had a dog who we did all that with and she still went ballistic at the groomers so you cannot possibly blame the owners when you have no idea.
@reaganbutler1577 You probably are right because everything seems to be freaking him out, but sometimes I feel dogs do just react poorly to certain things. My brothers dog freaks out if someone touches his nails. Everything else is fine washing and drying his feet. Trimming the fir. Grabing his ears or tail. Messing with his food. Hes chill. Touch his nails though and he panics. He doesn't get aggressive but just trys to run away. He only lets my brother trim them. Yes he has had it done since he was a puppy at home, and at groomers or/and vet.
@@reagan.butler do we know Neko's history because there's the chance that he got adopted by his current owners a bit later in his life. You're right that he probably never got desensitized though
He is gorgeous! I lost my two Malamutes within the last year, one to old age and the other one to cancer, and I wish I could find a breeder here in South Africa as the only other alternative will be a VERY expensive overseas puppy shopping trip.

Shake counter? We needed a punch counter for Niko! My beagle is now very concerned and laying down by my side to protect me from howling boy.
This video had all the drama of a telenovela complete with dramatic slaps to the wind machine of death!
I loved Vanessa's comment at the very end because it's exactly what I was thinking while watching this. That dog's previous groomer was right to refuse to groom him anymore.
Yep. This dog needs extensive work with a (re)trainer. Some people seem to think this nonsense is cute?! Yeah, no.
The traniers can refuse to take him on too . They aren't miracle workers
He isn't a puppy or young dog

He is singing his song at the top of his lungs and boxing at the same time. Truly talented and he is giving the huskies a run for their money.

Ah yes, Malamutes...give them an inch, they'll take 50 miles. Looks like he learned misbehaving gets him what he wants.
It’s a case of the owner being in charge or the dog being in charge, I’m guessing he’s the boss, not for everyone

A dog can be adequately trained but then be afraid of situations like this, for goodness sake. Irresponsible comment, actually.
@@zzzbbbooo Then I suppose it cant be taken to a groomer. Because no one is going to put up with that.

My parents had a Malamute, Dakota. He was a sweet boy. He LOVED getting brushed; he usually fell asleep.
We had a half malamute, half black lab when I was a kid, and she was a good girl.
This is really learned behavior. He has taught his groomer to do what he wants. Nice to see you teaching him differently!

@reaganbutler1577
You probably are right because everything seems to be freaking him out, but sometimes I feel dogs do just react poorly to certain things. My brothers dog freaks out if someone touches his nails. Everything else is fine washing and drying his feet. Trimming the fir. Grabing his ears or tail. Messing with his food. Hes chill. Touch his nails though and he panics.
