i can't thank you enough for this video, the donut tutorial just wasn't cutting it . i got to episode eleven before i realized i didn't even remember what i learned in episode two , despite the fact i was closely following along the entire way through , and that was partly the issue , i was just following along . i tried restarting and even taking notes like it was an actual class , but then that just took the fun out of it , so now i'm watching this video as a refresher , and it's helping me out so much more than the donut tutorial did not to hate on the donut tutorial , but this is just so amazingly better for people in my position where even though they followed the tutorial and made the donut , they were basically just copying the work he was doing . thank you a million times over dude
Yeah I did the same thing. had to go back to previous tutorials on donut a lot. But I am thinking to start this. Thanks your comment helped me in the decision.
saaaame! no hate to blender guru, but he doesn't explain exactly what you're doing and why. it is literally just for making a donut. all I learnt from his lessons were the navigation hotkeys lol.
SO just fyi, if one is learning blender via tutorial and switching between the video and the software on different screens and then forgets to click into blender again before pressing 1 to look front on, they will be taken straight to 6.25 and immediately jump-scared by Suzanne the Monkey overlaid with a scream. 😂 Theoretically... Totally didn't happen to me many.. many times. 😅 In all seriousness though! This tutorial was amazing and so very helpful! I am so thankful for finding you. I've tried a couple of times over the years to start learning blender after playing around in DAZ Studio for years and wishing I could make my own meshes but this is definitively the farthest I've ever gotten and I am so proud of my little low poly scene. 🥰 I'm nearly finished the second vid in the series but stuck on the bike. I'm going to move on to geometry nodes for a bit and come back to it with fresh eyes. Thank you so so much for taking the time to make these amazing, informative tutorials! ❤
Also just want to say that as a beginner, the shortcuts are so overwhelming so I really really appreciate that you repeat them every single time because it becomes somewhat of a mantra and makes it easier to learn. Shift A, mesh, cube, tab edit mode, G Z 1, tab object mode, scale it down. Pretty sure most of that is from the second tutorial. But I will remember it and probably think it every time I add a new mesh to the viewport for a long time to come. 😂
after ages of wanting to learn 3d i got started with this tutorial and learned the ropes pretty quickly! the donut tutorial was always a little unclear to me and i felt like it didn't teach much, so i'm going through a bunch of your tutorials. so far it's been great!
2 minutes in and you have already provided so much more information than so many others. And you have done it in such an easy to understand way. Your organization is absolute top tier! Thank you so much for making this! As a viewer I can clearly tell how seriously you take this and also how much you love making these videos. P.S. The cheat sheet is a god-send. I am very overwhelmed by all the shortcuts in Blender. You have no idea how nice it is to have someone make a shortcut cheat sheet for you.
THANK YOU FOR THIS. I'm trying out 3d animation and no other tutorials help. This one is long yes, but it covers everything and genuinely explains it well. Idk how some people try to explain it within a 15 minute video. This helped me a lot.
This is quite frankly the most well structured and best Blender tutorial videos!!! I was honestly surprised when I saw the view count on this video! It deserves to be in the millions!!! Keep it up!!! 💜
This videos is EXTREMELY comprehensive and I absolutely love it!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this and uploading it so all us plebs can learn how to 3D model stuff! I've just barely gotten started, but already I'm loving how explanatory you are with everything and how easy you make the navigation sound. I don't feel so hopeless with you helping me along this Blender journey!
Thank you so much, I've learned so much and enjoyed the video and the learning, I did struggle with the well and the size of the bricks. if anyone else is having trouble with that I have these measurements: X =0.35m Y =0.2m Z =0.23m
Finally a beginners tutorial I can actually follow, thank you so so much for saying what keys each shortcut you use, this makes a huge difference to a complete novice like me
Thanks for the video. You showed a lot that others skipped over, mainly with the very basic stuff that most assume is widely known or something. Also all of the time you repeated the shortcuts really helped them stick a bit better. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos on blender
WOW ! A beginner tutorial that's actually for beginners. Thank you. I just started Blender 4 and have looked at so many "beginner tutorials" and it's clear that they are not remembering how it was when they were beginner's. You have helped me understand how things work and I can actually follow along because you are explaining everything you are doing and we don't have to figure out what you did.. thank you.
i tried to follow the famous donut tutorial and got so frustrated nothing seemed to work out! this video is what every beginner should start with. thank you so much for all your time and effort.
Not to dunk on other creators here, just sharing that for me, this not only helped me understand what I was doing but solidified that a lot more than when I did the donut thing
The way you teach works for anything we want to make, not just donuts! You're teaching the tools and how they interact so we can be creative and find our own solutions instead of just "To make this object, follow these steps".
This tutorial was so detailed! It's my first time using blender in over 10 years and with all the new features and upgrades I was so insanely overwhelmed. But this video made it so much easier to re-learn everything I had lost. I made a post with my render on the discord and am hopping into the next tutorial now!
Yesss! I don’t need the basics, but I adore how you simplify technical stuff like geometry nodes and rigging. So I’ll absolutely be recommending you to everyone wanting to get started now with Blender in general like I already recommend you for geometry nodes! 😁
You are so amzing, love how informedyou are about all sorts of your audience. You explain way better than most of my teachers. Definately sticking around
Hi Joey, warm greetings from Indonesia. I want to thank you for making this tutorial. It helps me a lot and please don't delete this video so I can always get back here everytime I need help.
Bro. Lol Blender Guru could never. Like I'm in the middle of his donut and I'm going to finish it because I already had this goal. But if I would have found you first I would not have touched his video. I'm not trying to like speak badly of him because he's awesome but I'm 2 minutes in and you have taught me so much. I appreciate the effort and time this took you and that pdf is about to be an absolute game changer for me. I'm just in awe of the 3d community in general and I'm in a state where I feel like I found the love of my life, blender. Lol
I know it's a year late but I agree, maybe I just didn't want to watch 30, 20 minute videos, it may be more in depth but I also think it's just too much and the donut isn't very interesting
Thank you for this video! I did the donut tutorial a few months ago, but I fell off of blender almost as soon as I finished it. This was a great way for me to go back over the basics without having to go through that entire tutorial again. Hopping into your modeling tutorial now!
Man, congrats. Just made a video in such a profesional way is an amazing thing. You should be paid by YT just for the quality. On top of that, you explain very well. I feel sorry I can not help with your patreon.
I thoroughly the effort you've put in there! There is only one thing I would suggest is that you get "Power toys" for windows, and use the cursor finder while filming stuff like this. Double tap CTRL to highlight the mouse
I am enjoying watching this tutorial with all these "short" demand details without over-talking and making me lose motivation...simple, useful & fast...cheers sir.
Fantastic tutorial, thank you. I used to do some CGI back in the mid 90s-00s, with 3Dstudio MAX, and this is exactly what I needed to sort out some rusty knowledge! Great pacing.
Thank you for this! I just started my blender journey and your video and the way you teach is extremely helpful. I will be watching all of the videos in the beginner playlist. Thank you for doing this. You're an awesome human!
Thanks a lot, Joey - this was very helpful! I'm really glad I started learning with this tutorial, 1 hour of watching and 4 hours of following along - and I can now find my way around the tool and watch a number of other guides without being lost in the controls.
Bloody hell this was fun ! Learned so much. Hardest part, was to figure out and get used to camera movement and I accidentally without knowing in the beginning moved 3d cursor... Which only made things harder until further on reaching clear explanation about pivot points lol. Thank you o/
Thanks for telling me not to get overwhelmed. I'm sitting here going man, it's great to have all the keybinds for m/kb, m, emulated configs, but man is it a lot😅. Great video! Thank you
THIS was the first tutorial I could properly follow and complete, thank you. I am so excited to learn more and will use the rest of your content as you are SO through and easy to follow along with.
I'm halfway through this tutorial right now and I gotta say, I think I'm doing a pretty good job following this video. Although, I had trouble figuring out the camera controls and shortcuts, the PDF was just simply a life saver! I didn't quite get 100% of what he's making, but at least it looks a little bit close to the original thing! I am learning little by little..
An absolutely fantastic tutorial. I feel so much more confident opening up blender. I might not be able to recreate a masterpiece like this in an hour, but with practice I'll get there. Thank you so much for this amazing content!
Finally, a "Beginner's tutorial" that lives up to its name. :) This is excellent and thank you so much for putting it together and setting chapter bookmarks. I'm using Blender 4.2, but the information in this video still looks quite accurate. I'll be using this as a reference as I get more into Blender! (And yes, I've done the doughnut tutorial too, and while it is a good intro to mesh manipulation in Blender, THIS video is what I needed to start understanding the general workflow of creating scenes and objects, from the basics)
i am not a beginner, ive been using blender for abt a few yrs .. i am here just to see your ways of doing things and see what i can learn :) because i love how u explain things
I'm at the point with blender where in getting really good at making simple things without a tutorial, but I still watch tutorials to keep refreshed on how to do things. And today you are that lucky video to watch. Sorry Blendr Guru ❤
Joey, I thought I should point out that the "F9" hotkey is not a "construction history" but a "last action" meaning if you click on the object after fiddling around with other objects or even moving the object "F9" won't allow you to define the parameters again. I spent hours watching and rewatching the video trying to get back to the parameters with "F9". i thought my keyboard was broken. so I tried that hotkey on three different keyboards. googled and searched what was going on and found what happened. I still love the tutorial, don't take this as a criticism in ANYWAY. I still don't understand the workings of Blender to even suggest if a construction history would even work much less make a suggestion for a cool addon that would allow you to reconfigure the parameters way after the fact, but it would be awesome if it were possible.😁
Appreciate this video, it is absolutely perfect for beginners. Thank you for explaining the things everyone assumes us to know. Every click, every key. Ur the bestttt
This is probably the best beginners tutorial I’ve seen. Easy to follow and very enjoyable to watch. You got a like and subscribe from me, sir. I look forward to watch more of your videos.
I've just started learning blender by watching tutorials for beginner on UA-cam. You explain things so clearly and very easy to follow. Definitely helped a lot. Thank you so much!
Just finished this great video and i really need to thank you, it helped A LOT ! you did great job explaining, editing so its entertaining and educational aswell. next stop is modeling vid :) thank you, keep up the great work :)
Incredible content. Want to start doing this and your videos are just amazing. Thanks for taking the time to create them. Really easy to follow and clear.
OMG! I absolutely love the way you teach. you have a wonderful style that helps beginners like me feel at ease. i've been trying to get going on the more complex modeling but always get stuck on the simple stuff like user interface and how the heck do i find the "fill-in-the-blank" because other tutorials assume the user somehow intuitively knows where stuff is and how to get back to things just opened up? I usually spend more time trying to find the cube i just made and how to center it on the screen before i just give up and walk away. thanks for understanding that and showing the little frustrating things and anticipating that beginners can get lost and overwhelmed. i almost wish that blender would have a tab just for beginners and progressively add tabs as you learn new skills. and I simply love your avatar! so cute. please keep teaching and, i haven't checked, but do u do a video on how you made the avatar?
I'm happy to help. My next video is about how I make my avatar scenes, but I also have a playlist about character modeling that will have better step-by-step videos
I highly recommend anyone new to Blender to go into Edit -> Preferences -> Navigation, and under orbit & pan, tick on depth next to auto. This will let you scroll in as much as you want and won't slow down the zoom.
I might not be the most smart person when it comes to blender but i gotta be honest, i need to start doing simple stuff like this instead of wanting to do models for animations
⚠Snapping options changed in 4.0! Use "face" snapping instead of "face project"

I like how you got straight to the point! Respect!
i am not a beginner, ive been using blender for abt a few yrs .. i am here just to see your ways of doing things and see what i can learn :)
because i love how u explain things
I'm at the point with blender where in getting really good at making simple things without a tutorial, but I still watch tutorials to keep refreshed on how to do things. And today you are that lucky video to watch. Sorry Blendr Guru ❤
I'm learning Blender to enhance my comic book art workflow and you're saving my life here
Joey, I thought I should point out that the "F9" hotkey is not a "construction history" but a "last action" meaning if you click on the object after fiddling around with other objects or even moving the object "F9" won't allow you to define the parameters again.
If you are interested in being less destructive with modeling, you should check out the modifiers and geometry nodes
Been here 5 seconds and learned a lot of youtube tips xD I been using this platform for like 15 years everyday! Earned an immediate sub lol!
Really appreciate this step by step tutorial! You're the freaking man for doing this. Thank you!
Appreciate this video, it is absolutely perfect for beginners. Thank you for explaining the things everyone assumes us to know. Every click, every key. Ur the bestttt
the last 15 minutes was helpful to see the hotkeys being implemented repetitively while you talked about what hotkeys you were using
hands down the best beginners guide out there
This is probably the best beginners tutorial I’ve seen. Easy to follow and very enjoyable to watch. You got a like and subscribe from me, sir.
I look forward to watch more of your videos.
This is the best tutorial I’ve watched!! Thank you ❤

Thank you for the video man, you've brought the spark back
thank you so much! I enjoyed every second of this and learned so much
Incredible content. Want to start doing this and your videos are just amazing. Thanks for taking the time to create them. Really easy to follow and clear.
Excellent introduction to Blender's tool set, looking forward to going through the rest of your videos. Thanks!
Starting my new journey today!
You went above and beyond even the pdf 🤯
I highly recommend anyone new to Blender to go into Edit -> Preferences -> Navigation, and under orbit & pan, tick on depth next to auto. This will let you scroll in as much as you want and won't slow down the zoom.
This tutorial is AMAZING, however, I just wanted to add that to get to the lasso tool, it is [ctrl] + right mouse
Great Video. Was a pleasure to follow along and really easy to comprehend.
in all honesty this video helped so much but im now learning blender is so complicated due to the many different ways to do the simplest things lmao

A few days ago I subscribed to you to learn blender - and here is such a nice surprise :)
I might not be the most smart person when it comes to blender but i gotta be honest, i need to start doing simple stuff like this instead of wanting to do models for animations
