    Never eat canned Weisswurst. No German in his right mind eats that, It's disgusting. Always have it fresh, with sweet mustard.

      Yeah what you don't see is that I spit it out right after...Oh well, should have put a disclaimer on it! Unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to eat fresh weisswurst in Munich so had to settle for canned instead after I got back

    Amazing video. Some years ago I visited Munich as well and looked up most of the locations. NeuSchwanstein is amazing.
    I’ve also visited the chapel in Altötting where Ludwigs heart is stored in that urn. Amazing place.

    I am going to visit Rothenburg, Hauptsee and the castle in August. I did a tour in the late '90 's. I visited Neuschwanstein, Hauptsee, Locham, the zoo and the center of Munich Marienplatz. I was still young and only have some pictures. It was long before smartphones and digital cameras. I never found Rittersberg (Rothenburg). We drove all the way to east Germany to a town called Rittersberg, but that was not the Rittersberg from the game. But there is a real Rittersberg...

    Omg! That's..... So awesome! I love how well researched Jane Jensen's games are. It's always based on real things and locations and with the supernatural stuff added in I usually can't decide which aspects are real and which are added in. Thank you so much!

    • @AdventureGameGeek
      @AdventureGameGeek  5 років тому +4

      Yeah it's so interesting how some names were changed and things added in. Like the church on the left of Rittersberg square doesn't exist in real life, it's from somewhere else!

    Cool episode! GK2 is actually my favorite adventure game ever. I'm glad you had a nice tour around Bavaria. Did you know that the actor playing Von Glower is polish-born dude? He was even in polish Dancing with the Stars. And also starred in awesome polish comedy "Killer 2". It's cult classic in Poland but jokes are not transferrable to english mostly so I don't know if I should recommend it XD. Anyways gr8 FMV. It's said to be rushed during development- initially it was supposed to have 10 chapters. Too bad... Aaaand probably we will never get remake or even GK4. (GK3 is my last most loved GK due to crappy engine/UI). Cheers!

    This episode was INCREDIBLE! I visited Germany back in high school in 2000; however, that was prior to me having played The Beast Within, and I had no idea that some of the places that I visited would feature so heavily in the game. We did get to visit Neuschwanstein and Munich, though, and I do still have my pictures from that, so I'm really glad that I was able to experience that! The amount of detail that Jane Jensen and her team put in to recreating the locations in GK2 is truly incredible! It's also amazing to see how little has changed overall in the architecture of the locales of GK2 in 23 years! I've also had the opportunity to visit Sutter's Fort (featured in Gold Rush), and San Francisco (featured in Manhunter 2), and I was able to get pictures of a lot of the locations featured in those games as well, but it's a little bit harder to imagine those areas in modern day, since neither game is set in the present like GK2 was. Thank you so much for sharing this! If I ever get an opportunity to visit Germany again, I would definitely like to visit some of these places!

    Outstanding episode! :) You managed to catch every detail from the game (including the "come on, wolfie!" scene hahaha). When I visited Germany in 2006 I could not visit all the game locations, spent most time in Munich and managed to visit the Ludwig Castle (Neuschwanstein). We did the way up there by horse, it's really cool. Thanks for this episode, triggers many memories!

    • @malokegames
      @malokegames 5 років тому +1

      You had trespassed King's Ludwig guards xD Oh, not exactly riding them individually, it was some kind of open wagon for around 5-6 people being pulled by a fancy white horse. For a couple, it's a romantic way to go up there appreciating the view! Although it will also depend on the horse's diet for the aroma in the air... haha Some people go walking and also had some small buses, but it was more than 10 years ago... not sure if they still have these horses.

    This was such a cool video, to see the game come to life, your passion for it & seeing your excitement from reliving scenes from a game that obviously mens a lot to you. And also seeing you give a shoutout to a small YT channel that did a similar thing years before you. Just a wholesome vibe that you dont see in modern day YT much. I can kind of relate to the feeling in the sense that it reminds me of what I felt when I got to visit USA for the first time and then backpacking in South America after that, exploring places I'd viewed through my computer screen for years, both in pictures and video games.

    Wunderbar video, mate. I simply loved your video with all my heart. You managed to trigger my nostalgia on three levels: first you made me want to play gk2 one more time, then to visit Bavaria again and the final level would be still visiting Bavaria, but having the game locations in mind. I know, because I've been there too. Still, you managed to find some locations I totally missed, through no other fault than my own, like Schloss-Ritter; sorry you didn't get to visit the castles and the King's Museum (those are basically the crown jewels when it comes to the Ludwig mythos). Also, I remember I made a reservation online prior to visiting Neuschwanstein castle (I didn't even want the shadow of a chance to ruin the experience of me visiting it). Here's hoping that you'll return there and complete all the GK2 locations. Cheers!

    Wow, really above and beyond. Your best video yet! I'm glad I suggested Gabriel Knight, probably my favorite adventure series of all time. Will we be getting full reviews in the future (rubber chickens, pulleys, etc) of these games? This really takes me back, pure dopamine. Pure adventure. Pure history. Crazy how the locations are almost all exactly the same, and being snow covered makes it cooler. I just realized after all these years that the people in the square are playing When the Saints Go Marching In is a nod to New Orleans being the location of the first game. It's crazy to me that the zoo really has such a little fence for those wolves (12:35). I actually turned my head and went NO! NOOOO! when you munched on that Weisswurst. Brutal!

      Ha what you don't see is all the other takes I did eating that wurst and then spitting it out afterwards...It's really not supposed to be eaten straight from the tin like that! Of course I'll be reviewing the games, just did my schedule for this year and March is GK month so if everything goes to plan I'll be doing GK 1 and 2 then!

    Awesome stuff.
    I did my own tour of the GK2 locations about 20 years back which covered the castles (including Linderhof, which is not in the game), Bayreuth, Altötting and some of the locations in the Munich area. Most of them are portrayed quite accurately, down to the interiors (with small exceptions like the paintings in the Sängersaal at Neuschwanstein). I remember I kept humming themes from the soundtrack while on site. Spectacular trip.
    Two things I noticed in your video:
    - The external view of Neuschwanstein that's used in the game (and most everywhere else) is the one from the Marienbrücke, which is located to the south of the castle and crosses a river gorge. Not sure it would've been wise to cross during a blizzard at night!
    - The castle opposite Neuschwanstein is Hohenschwangau, which isn't technically considered one of Ludwig's castles because it was not built by him; his father, Maximilian, had it rebuilt and converted to its present form. Ludwig did spend his childhood there, though.
