The RCA / Whirlpool automated house of the future reminds me of the creepy Ray Bradbury short story, “There Will Come Soft Rains”, which is about an automated home that continues operating after a nuclear war.
Great stuff here P&P. Once again showing humanity longing for a future where they could escape from their mundane present. While showing a savant telling us the unforseen (at that time), the consequences of doing just that.
The Disney logo in the lows right screams late '90s early 2000s. when this was ripped. From 35mm ro VHS to cable to digital and still good quality. Good job.
The first segment reminds me of those Tex Avery futuristic cartoons like Home of the Future for one. As a kid from the 50's, imagine my disappointment of what we thought would happen compared to what has.
"In the future everything will be at the touch of a button" The future: You need an app to use a toaster. But that's not all! You need a different app for everything in your life! Each app has a convenient login and password too! It's not just a dishwasher. Some features of your miracle dishwasher can only be used through the app. . Isn't that easy! Your car is a computer too! Complete with an extra monthly fee, in addition to your high car payment and insurance.
17:55 Mansanto presents Journey through Innerspace. That was one of my favorite rides. With an eyeball looking at you through a microscope as you continue to shrink.
Disney’s animatronics have come a long way since the World of Tomorrow guide lady! 13:44 There was a strange tick in her movement and the pre-recorded audio didn’t quite look like it matched her mouth movement, but I guess at the time they thought she looked realistic enough 😋
Foresight is right. Some of his observations really hold up, many decades later. But if he were alive today, I think the internet would make his head explode.
Alvy: Oh, do ya? Well, that's funny, because I happen to have Mr. McLuhan right here, so, so, yeah, just lemme lemme lemme - [pulls McLuhan from behind a nearby poster stand] - Come over here for a second. Tell him! Marshall McLuhan: I heard what you were saying. You know nothing of my work. You mean my whole fallacy is wrong. How you ever got to teach a course in anything is totally amazing.
13:40 I've seen this on The Disney Channel back in the '90s. This upload MIGHT have been broadcasted at the time I've seen it! Then again, it might've been at another time.
The best thing about this video is the interview with M. McLuhan. He truly was a visionary in many aspects and knew how to greatly anticipate the present, in relation to our relationship with the media.
Would love to see a 2024 update to the Carousel of Progress using the original equipment and adding the 2024 update using today’s available technology.
Why didn't this become reality? And why wasn't as much innovation put into the rest of the house. Imagine a laundry system that washes, dry and fold an put away laundry. I'd love to see the garage of the future, where tires are automatically checked for correct pressure and adjusted as needed automatically.. Has a any concepts of a automated home garage of the future out there
The "Miracle Kitchen" looks like a nightmare of moving parts to break, wear out, malfunction, leak, etc. and need constant expensive repairs
Does it come with a live-in repairman?
The husband lol
absolutely. guess that's why we don't see anything like this today. seems cool but not practical
I can imagine a cat causing havoc in that miracle kitchen.
Enter & cue-up the RCA Whirlpool automated pet-sitter.
They cause hella chaos in modern kitchens so yeah 😂
"WTF, who keeps pressing the 'tuna salad' button on the meal-maker???"
Or when you have a party and the guests wave to each other.
I miss the future.
Weird. I'm frankly SICK of this future.
Yes, and this "this" (future) makes the difference.@@Minalkra

The Martian Chronicles.

1:32 And the "Magic Meal Maker" ever was never heard of again
It would have rendered the average homemaker obsolete.
@@ferociousgumby It never existed in the first place. It was a Frigidaire fantasy
Wives were magic meal makers.
Just when I think the retroarchive mine has been exhausted, you give us another helping!
19:35 = It's Carousel from Logan's Run. RENEW!!!
The Disney logo in the lows right screams late '90s early 2000s. when this was ripped. From 35mm ro VHS to cable to digital and still good quality. Good job.
Interesting and fun. Great to see Marshall McLuhan live, in-action back in the day.
That's a fricken Roomba lmao, wow; of all the future tech I've seen in these I think that's the most surprising to me.
This reminds me of the automated kitchen in "The Glass-Bottom Boat" (1966), starring James Garner and Doris Day.
Sorry I didn’t quite catch the name of The RCA Whirlpool Miracle whatever it was, could you repeat it again?
Marshall McLuhan's definition of "cool" is explained.
We now call it "sick."
Being and staying cool is cool.
That's cool.
That's sick.
I'm so cool :)

Now people would just say she was AI generated
Fussy to keep clean too. But I do like the intelligent predictive TV switch which turns off the TV before you have even touched the button.
She keeps pushing the same button on the control center for every demonstration. It must be reading her mind. The future is psychic!
that must be the cleanest circle of floor space in the whole house! 12:14
Marshall McCluhan seems to be half full of hot air... and the other half, full of tidbits of wisdom & foresight.
Foresight is right. Some of his observations really hold up, many decades later. But if he were alive today, I think the internet would make his head explode.
We can't cope with so much information, so we impose patterns on it. Boom.

Thank you for posting 👍👍
This is hilarious and impossible and I want all of it.
I love your channel so much it's motivated me to write my own retrofuture inspired fiction! Thank you so much! Hope you have an amazing Halloween 🎃
All i saw was a drink being dispensed. Didn't see anything actually cooked or cleaned
I remember riding the peoplemover in tomorrow
Land
I totally went ahead and watched full Marshall Mchulan videos. Guy was way ahead of his time.
7.23 " and right underneath the salad freshener drawer, we have a man pushing the salad freshener drawer."

22:49 *"There's a great big beautiful tomorrow....."*
Walt and Marshal in one video!
🤜💥🤛
It's Alexa's great-grandma!
there's a whole MESS of prescience crammed into that 1965 Marshall McLuhan interview
Aside from the configuration and compactness most all these concepts have come true.. Good times we live in..
Where's my flying car!
With the way people drive on the roads a flying car situation would be a blood bath of disasters.
The best thing about this video is the interview with M. McLuhan. He truly was a visionary in many aspects and knew how to greatly anticipate the present, in relation to our relationship with the media.
fantastic prediction of roomba.
Would love to see a 2024 update to the Carousel of Progress using the original equipment and adding the 2024 update using today’s available technology.
It would fall apart in moments, requires a subscription to even get a repair man, and then not work. It would require a fw update and the addons.
I like the fact that you can run your washing machine even with a low amount of clothes because you needn’t much soap. 😆
Now, with neuralink, we won't even have to wave our hands to open the fridge anymore. Take my money RCA!
RCA already has. It read your mind. And found out your PIN.
I can only wonder when I watch this genere how hard they'll laugh at us.

In the future you need to have a pre-set time to call your butcher? I find that ominous.
That self driving dishwasher would have been a disaster...
they did predict the roombah vacuum though....
The imagination of the European mind, when unencumbered by falsely placed guilt routines, is truly limitless and awe-inspiring.
they didn't realise it takes longer to waive a hand and wait for the bottles to appear than opening a fridge and take the bottle haha
It looked cool and they thought that would be a selling point.
So kool.
Miracle kitchen
2030: you mean a smart home?
🌹
What could go wrong?!?!
How upset these ppl would be if they were alive to see "how far we have come"😂
These people wouldn,t even know how to use the microwave.
So the housewife can reach the dishes without bending over. Lol
13:28 wow Elon Musk’s robot .
Everyones a victim and only wanting instant gratification now a days
Dizzy Land.
...or just phone for a pizza delivery.
They imagined women would still be in the kitchen!
