- My voice has been trashed due to some cold that decided to pop up…but here’s one of my all-time favorite tunes. I don’t mess around with open tunings (or fingerpicks) much at all, so it’s fun to do that from time to time.
This is my Yamaha FG-9R guitar with D’Addario XS Strings (medium gauge)
That boy can play the guitar and sings like one of the best Classical Country Blues guys around
A finer version may not be found anywhere!.....
This is great but go see two youngsters called The other favourites also do this....
@@christopherwillemse I have seen that version and while it's very well done I still prefer Trey's version.
Trey would humbly point you to Dr. Ralph, Jack and Curly live from Japan. But Trey kills it here no doubt.
@@jaygatsby1I prefer Trey's version due to the guitar playing and it's more in line with the blues than a bluegrass version of the song.
@@FlubR very good version, although I would have preferred his singing to the blues version at the end instead of the faster bluegrass style.
2023 IBMA guitarist of the year🎉 You must literally be sitting on top of the world. Congratulations and very much deserved👍🎸🤠
I have a cold right now too... I would keep the cold forever if I sounded like you... Cheers!
This is so damn good! Thank you for consistently putting out such great music for us to enjoy!!
What a sweet tune and love the slide! Thanks, Trey. 💜🇺🇸
Doc = Legend and everytime I watch you play online you are somehow 37x better then the last time watched ya hah. Bloody hell!
That's great 😊
Nice pick’n Trey! You know it’s good when the dogs laying down to listen
Lawdy days sir what a tune
I've listened to this more times than im willing to admit. Trey, fair play. You play a guitar like you came out of the womb with it..
Mighty Fine! For someone who doesn't "mess around with open tunings or fingerpicks much at all" I envy and celebrate your talent at the same time
Sounds great! Those new FG-9s are impressing a lot of people including me.
Wish I could like this twice.
Mr. Hensley there is truly that you can play I would love to sit down with you for 5 minutes I bet I could walk away with the greatest of all licks much love to you from Huntington West keep it up mister smooth criminal❤
Even the dog enjoyed that.....
You never fail to be unique, creative and yet faithful to the original piece. Hats off 👏.

Great picking and fantastic version of one of the great tunes. Thanks!
Great job, well done , would like to see you come to Louisiana and do a concert!
Well done Trey!
Great stuff❤
Dang that sounds good
Trey..brother you get me thru the day with this gold. No matter how hot and aggravated I get at work this helps everytime
Yes sir
Nice!
Open tuning! Love it! That’s a trick that those of us who aren’t nearly as good as you use to sound like we’re better than we are. No fair!🤣
Was that a mean comment? I certainly didn’t mean it to sound mean. I always try to be nice. Huge fan ☮️
Great job Trey!!
There's a little couple of islands at the bottom of the world called New Zealand. Trey, there's plenty of Kiwis who'd love to see you playing live while touring these pretty isles. ❤
Love this one. I always used to jam Doc's version.
Always incredible Trey. Keep up the great work ❤
Heck yeah bro that was some awesome pickin right'ter. Loved it. Got the chill bumps going on at'n lol. Been awhile since I heard some open E tuning with some good ' ol slide action. 2 thumbs up. Sore hands from clappin lol. I sure appreciate your talent being on UA-cam.
Absolutely gorgeous.❤
Awesome Awesome Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love it!! Listened to that one over and over !
So good Trey!!
Most excellence!!
Great tune and great guitar , u have great taste in music and acoustic guitars
Good one!! I'm enjoying the "Kitchen Table Sessions!"
This is AWESOME!!!!
Somewhere up there, Doc Watson is smiling
beautiful !!
Come to glasgow scotland trey, u can stay at ma house no probs👍🤠
Sometimes, the human singing voice can be positively affected by having a touch of a cold. It certainly can add a bit more of a gravelly low register to your voice that isn't normally present.
Your Yamaha guitar really rings out well and resonates using an open tuning. What tuning are you using.
While you got the cold, now's the time for trying to sing some Randy Travis! 😎😆
🎙🎶 I'm diggin' up bones.....
Great arrangement, Trey. Love the back and forth with this slide, I share your delight in that triplet run after "I ain't worried". (You gave it away at 2:14).
I used to love hearing Geoff Bartley play this tune at the Cantab in Cambridge Massachusetts. Have you heard Geoff's stuff? Great (and underrated) fingerstyle guitarist.
So very good ❤
Dang son , go ahead on wit it 👍🏻
Spent Christmas in my overalls too brother 😂 as always might fine playing
❤👌👌👌
Came for your playing but ended up staying for your voice..
Love That Little Lick You Do After “And I Ain’t Worried “ THEN .. You Throw In The Slide Trey ..! Good Stuff Buddy 😌👍🏻
What’s With The Capital Letters?
why have i just found you now? sounds great man!
You have a great voice!
Wow!
The fingerpicking bit reminded me of Ry Cooder a little
Man how did you learn how to keep the bass rhythm along with the other strings so well? I'm struggling. Wanna play this kind of music so bad
HAH! hoo doggy
Dayumm!
Billy Strings is that you? Lol just kidding Trey your awesome too!
Enjoyed that!! 😎👍 How do you like that Yamaha?
Thanks! I love it! Such a great guitar
What is your tuning on this one? Thanks.
Rip Tony rice
what open tuning are you playing in? G?
What is the name of the right hand technique that you are using?
Hey Trey what tuning are you in there? DADGAD?
Open Eb…so Eb Bb EB G Bb Eb
I mean no disrespect to Doc Watson because i love his music.. but i actually like this version more than Doc's rendition. That says alot. Someday when i can afford lessons i'll pay you trey for lessons. I already know how to flat pick but i would want the lessons mostly to learn how to improvise and play more licks.
Used to think Doc’s version was the best. Not anymore. You are a fine player. Not many blazing flat pickers around that finger-style Travis stuff, slide, open tunings. Hoping you win IBMA guitarist this year. Way overdue.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I sure do appreciate that!
Good Lord! The rest of us need to quit.
What on earth is going on
Well I know what I’m going to be studying the rest of the day
Standard tuning?
Open tuning. I’d guess D or E.
Open Eb… Eb Bb Eb G Bb Eb
