    I purchased one of these suits - holy heck, it is extremely warm (it is rated for -50c / -58F after all). You must have been close to seating. Does a great job of buffeting strong winds. Would not recommend wearing over 10F conditions. lol.

    You sure fought for that fire in the beginning! That must have been some wet wood by the looks. Eventually though, sitting back, ripping off a bite of meat...what our cavemen ancestors did 100,000 years ago. Love it!

      Thanks Jeff! Appreciate it. The shelter was first time running it. Sure is interesting concept. I had to go build another one afterwards that was more traditional so to speak. The suit is definitely an investment. Extremely warm though.

    That's a nice Super Shelter Jess 👍 .. simple but effective.
    Of course .. you would know, this type of 'Greenhouse' Shelter is most effective with a 'Flame Fire' .. giving off Energy in the Visible Light Spectrum .. the transition of visible Short Wave Energy to Longer Waves and the Clear Plastic in between.
    Speaking of Extended-life Long Log Fires, Lars from Survival Russia uses a traditional 'Siberian Log Fire'. It seems to be highly effective, resource-efficient and doesn't need too much attention .. worth a gander.
    Take care .. stay safe .. Tommy

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Tommy! It is quite an interesting and effective design. I have since gone back to my campsite and have built a more traditional super shelter with more consideration to the design, properly sealing it at peak for heat retention. I watched Lars video a few years ago. I should go back and have another look. All the best, Jess

    The Russian suit looks really snug and a nice save starting the fire.

      Thank you, Thorn! 👊 I need to dust off the Polish kit sometime soon. Same here with the palatka... I had to get up around 3am to rebuild fire. I had a hole at the top of shelter which was letting out a lot of heat. Live and learn. Cheers!

    Russian gear is superior in every way for cold weather. I've been quite comfortable in sub zero with a telnyashka underneath an early 2000s "sneg" jacket. The only issue I have with Russian gear is the hats! The "chechenka" is the most uncomfortable beanie I've ever worn, same with ushankas!

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  3 роки тому +1

      Right on. I haven’t tried any of the hats myself, but everything that I have used has been excellent. Cheers

      @@EnduranceRoom If you see footage from the Chechen campaigns, you'll notice the soldiers' beanies are majorly torn at the seams and worn high up. It's the only way a bloke with a normal size bonce can get the damn things on! Even then they give you a pressure headache! Can't speak for the new gen ratnik ushankas though, never worn one.

    Hey bruva, hey you ever used the Siberian Log fire method? I found it on Survival Russia and thought maybe you had some input on it.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, you need pretty big, hug size logs, V notch them along the top of one and the bottom of the other and sandwich the Va together with a fire going on in between. Kind of makes a natural stove that restricts the air flow to slow the burn, but give you a hot ember coal bed that lasts for hours. Really cool method. I was trying to approximate it with this using smaller logs and stacking them. It is similar, and actually works quite well with good hardwood logs. The pines I was using burned pretty fast. Its a great fire, worth exploring if you get a chance. Cheers man!
