Back in the late 70's this song was as much a part of New York culture as the subways and Central Park. It was played on TV constantly. Damn near brainwashed you into loving New York with this song!
I still get goosebumps when I hear this anthem. Heard it in the summer of 1978 when as a kid I visited New York City for the very first time. The chorus has stuck with me all these years.
I was born and raised in New York. I now live in Hot Sunny Florida. Listening to this song brings back so many memories. I remember this song growing up, from the tv news stations to tv commercials. Now listening to this song as an adult...I can't help being not just nostalgic but wistful, it takes me back to the simpler times, the noise, sound, smell, busy streets, the cold, the night lights of New York City is forever locked in my soul no matter where i am. A city that never sleeps. No place like it. I"ll luv NY 4ever!
This takes me right back to being a teenager in the 80's. All those great sitcoms The Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Who's the Boss, Three's company, Gimme a break, The Love Boat, and even soap operas like General Hospital, The edge of night, Days of Our Lives and every other commercial was punctuated by this I love New York commercial! Who would know it would become an indelible part of my greatest memories. Great days. This is still my favorite commercial. I ❤ NY!!!
For those of you too young to remember, this song was originally created for the ad agency Wells Rich Greene, specifically to promote the Big Apple ad campaign. It was so successful that it was later expanded to ads for the entire state, before becoming the official state song.
For all those of you who grew up in NY during the '70s, do you feel that this song and ad campaign helped to bring New York out of its Fear City era and into its modern tourist era?
one stand up comedian I saw in 1989 said it best: "New Yorkers are busy. Here's how you ask for directions in New York (City); Don't just ask, 'how do I get to the Statue of Liberty' - Ask; 'how do I get to the Statue of Liberty, or should I just go Fuck Myself'?"
@@wingitprod I am 99% sure it was not Colin Quinn, mainly because of the voice - this guy did not have a distinctive voice at all - no accent even. And I never saw this guy again...anywhere. I confess again that this was my senior year in High School so it was a long time ago - But I do remember when I saw this routine. I had crashed at a friends house who had bad-ass Cable Service (I didn't have Cable) and we were all passed out in front of the TV. When I woke up it was on a channel that became or was Comedy Central and at that time all they played were 1 to 3 minute clips of Stand Up routines at comedy clubs. I laughed so hard I woke everyone up.

I loved this song, and the many ads it accompanied. Although... I could have sworn it came out earlier than '77. I thought I saw these first ads in 1974. Whatever, though. I made my first trip to New York City in 1975 and fell in love with The Big Apple. For all it's problems, all it's ups and downs, it remains THE Center of just about Everything... I LOVE NEW YORK!!!!!!
This song and an accompanying movie showing all of NEW YORK STATE was presented to Hugh L. Carey, the then Governor by Colby Chandler CEO of Eastman Kodak at the New York State Museum in either June or Sept. 1977 or 78. I was there saw the original presentation and then apparently made a terrible "faux pas" by walking over to Mr. Chandler and drinking with hi. At Eastman Kodak people did not wander over to the CEO. At that time I was Counsel to the Governor's Office of Business Permits and the Director was Charles E. Fitzgibbon, chief lobbyist of EK. @SherwoodofRobin...Hey there Rob, Thanks again for your post of this song. It got me searching and I was fortunate enough to find (and purchase) a flawless vinyl copy from 1977 "Struttin Records" label Just like yours. I have you to credit for that because until I saw the flash of your "45" on your video I didn't even know it existed. Thanks again Rob. Take Care.....................Steve
@batfan1400 I am happy that you appreciate what New York City really was and what it should be. remember that you can take New York City out of the "grit" but you can't take the "grit" out of New York City. peace out...
You do know that this song refers to the entire State, yes? That the iconic logo is owned by the state tourism office? (And where are the lyrics about hiking and camping?)
You can buy software online called "Tunebite." Google it and any video you watch on UA-cam, you can use the "surf and catch" part of Tunebite software to download any audio MP3 of any video you watch. You can probably get free software too to get the mp3's, but not sure if I'd trust it. Tunebite also is used to convert Itune M4p file songs to more friendly MP3 versions.
Forget about soundtracks, but where else can I find this song? In the future I want this song to be the beginning song of a movie I'm going to make in the future, but I can't unless I know where I can find it and upload it into my movie in the future. Please, tell me where can I find this song!

I;ve been listening to all 50 state anthems. (New Jersey is the only state without one. HEH.) So far, I've listened to 31 of them. (Listening to them in alphebetical order.) Out of the 31 I've heard, this one, and possibly Nebraska are the only decent ones. (Heaven't listened to my own state of PA yet. Not even sure what it is yet. lol.) Bu yeah this is a actually pretty decent. Reminiscent of the great Frank Sinatra and...the beginning of that one 70s or 80s television show..rolled into one.

Hi, Greetings from New York.
I'd love to go L.A. one day!
FunnyVideoMaker77 dont go its not worth it it sucks in L.A. My cousin almost got kidnapped in front of us so we chased the guy down and gave him a good beating.
I'm from Liverpool NY which is just outside of Syracuse NY
I love new york like hell!!!!
BEST CITY IN AMERICA!!!!
Yeah when that song came out New York was a crime ridden hell hole like it is now, but you know what I love New York
This song slaps
Yay my town!
Back then when this song came out that's when I love New York. I don't love it anymore. I don't even recognize it.
I love New York
ओ३म् 🙏
I am surprised "New York,New York" by Sinatra is not the state song.
AMEN!!!!
Forget about soundtracks, but where else can I find this song? In the future I want this song to be the beginning song of a movie I'm going to make in the future, but I can't unless I know where I can find it and upload it into my movie in the future. Please, tell me where can I find this song!
hi Steve, glad you managed to get a copy, I can't believe how many hits this video has had! It's such a 'feel good' sound isn't it. Best Regards form the UK. Rob
I;ve been listening to all 50 state anthems. (New Jersey is the only state without one. HEH.)
So far, I've listened to 31 of them. (Listening to them in alphebetical order.) Out of the 31 I've heard, this one, and possibly Nebraska are the only decent ones. (Heaven't listened to my own state of PA yet. Not even sure what it is yet. lol.)
Bu yeah this is a actually pretty decent. Reminiscent of the great Frank Sinatra and...the beginning of that one 70s or 80s television show..rolled into one.
@SherwoodofRobin Thanks bro.... Would love to see England some day....
Why not? Why don't like the south? Tell me your experiences or hardships if you have any to share.
