@johnoakleymusic The only problem is you got a really. Be careful not to turn that volume to high. Or you can damage your hearing. I think I got tinnitus, which is uncurable from the first headphone amp. It sounds so good. You wanna turn it up. Watch your hearing. Tinnitus is irreversible
I enjoyed this immensely. I have the original mustang micro and when the boss came out I got that too. I love them both but for different reasons. I just knew fender would do this so I’m mentally prepared to buy one. Your review has just confirmed it 👍🏻
Nice one. I have a feeling it's just gonna improve too with firmware. New vid coming in the next week regarding some hidden tips and features on this unit. Thanks for watching buddy
I just upgraded my Mustang Micro to the plus and I'm in awe about how fantastic it is... The original unit was great and I truly enjoyed using it. Having an app to modify and create along with 100 presets is the bomb! Boss pedals are super but in my opinion, their amps are not as great. (but still good) I bought the Line 6 Catalyst over the Katana. When Katana 3 came out I took another look at it but still decided the Catalyst sounded a little better. (all personal preference). It's great to live in world where there is Boss, Line 6 and Fender... You can't go wrong with either of these units.
@@powerbookdude I agree about the mustang micro plus. Making it easy to use allows more people to understand it better and get the best out of it. The sound is great too. The boss katana go is good but slightly artificial sounding and the app is shocking. I have a katana mk2 100w and again I love it but the menus take so much learning. What guitar do you play?
I have both.....used both...... my opinion.....the katana go is kind of aimed at precision guitarist, hitting the right sonically sharp solos and stuff (think Herman lee and those ridiculously fast dragon force solos)....well that and they just need to have this thing for relating to 80s sounding presets.....a month and half later of owning the katana go I picked up the mustang micro plus.....now this one gave me instant gratification instant inspiration.....the tones out of it felt so playable without any sort of modification.....I'm primarily a rhythm guitarist and honestly out of the 60 odd factory presets.....I could use just 20 and be happy with them, be it playing live through a PA or even connecting it to a recorder like zoom or audio interface and record on the fly. That's not to say that the boss doesn't have good presets....there are select good ones.....but on the high gain/distortion one, the fender imho overshadowed the katana go.....I'm primarily inspired by rock and metal from 1998-2005 and the high gain presets from the mustang micro plus just lit me up in a good way in an instant.......also one last gripe with the katana go is that the jog wheel (volume knob) just came off and now it doesn't work properly........so that's my experience with both so far after using it for almost 2 months
@@SunnyBeeRandomTuber great summary but for me if I want the pro side of stuff I’d use a dedicated floor board unit like my Tonemaster Pro etc hence why the fender makes more sense for its ease of great sounds and usability with quick gratification. @johnoakleymusic true you can never go wrong with a floor unit.....my fantasy dream unit someday after winning the lottery would be the Fractal FM 9.....my main utility of the mustange micro plus is just for 5-20 minute open mic sets...and not 1-2 dedicated live shows.

I ordered a Fender, what did it for me was the sound quality and app, the katana go is really hard to get and Boss had allready said they will redesign it so it can be sold again, so a gamble because they might add features.
Just got a Mustang Micro Plus and it's a winner. True Fender amps tone, easy to use, very good app and it misses nothing. And it has a display and a tuner. You don't need the app to play. Furthermore, it has been just released, so who knows what Fender will put in new firmware versions!
@@johnoakleymusic I compared the Mustang Micro Plus, the Nux Mighty Pro MP-3 and the Katana Go (even if discontinued) to decide what to buy. I've go for the little Fender because it's easy to use and complete and it looks the best sounding to me. Plug it to a guitar, plug headphones and play. Music streaming via Bluetooth it's magic to study at night!
That was a fantastic demo of the interfaces! 100% Fender win for ease of use. But you actually convinced me to wait a few more months and hope Boss re-releases the Go or a "Go2" so I can compare them. I thought the Go sounded a little better, and while won't choose based on a UA-cam demo, it's enough to make hold out. At least until Christmas. I need 4 or 5 good sounds total in a headphone amp, and I don't want buyer's remorse that I chose the one that's more fun to play with but less fun to play through... I'll just suffer along with my neolithic tube amps for a bit longer.
@@Toddler1967 thanks buddy. Im sure its just a matter of dialing in your sound. The katana has better effects options. the mustang has better amp options. Im sure you can get equally great sounds out of either though, honestly. plus, its only $120.
@@antalantal2366 yep it’s an amazing piece of guitar gear with completely usable presets which makes a nice change. Watched my 5 essential presets vid too?
Nice video. Good comparison with Katana Go. I am from India. I already have Fender Mustang Micro and Blackstar Fly. Remembering and cycling through the colors of mustang micro was a pain. However I loved the new app based interface bundled with Micro plus. My buddy is travelling down from NY to Blore. I asked him to pick this up from the website. He will be reaching in a week. I am so chuffed and looking forward for hours long practice sessions and direct video recording on my phone. Great product by fender.
I have a go but haven’t gotten my head around the interface yet. I was considering a micro plus due to the amps and the ease of use. Watching a couple of UA-cam videos has meant I better understand the Go and I think it does better on pedals. Do they both just have one gain stage?
My friend got the Fender for his birthday last week and I have the Katana Go since launch. Things that are better with the Katana: more pedals at the same time, Range Octaver of the OC3/5, a almost usable pitchshifter and that you can use it for Bass with dedicated Bass amps and effects. It's unbeievable how much processing power is in this little unit, but that's it. The rest is possible with the Fender too and it's way easier to achieve good tones on the Fender since Boss doesn't allow you to set the pedals as you desire. It's always one of their premade lines.
@@capedukewuhaha some good points in there. For me the one thing missing from the fender is the ability to add a Bluetooth foot switch like you can with the katana go. Bass amps are handy if you’re that way inclined 🤣😂The rest I prefer the fender. What guitar do you play?
I think the Katana:Go can be used with an acoustic guitar where the Mustang Micro Plus cannot… switching the Katana:Go to bass mode makes it the better option for bass players. Fender’s option definitely has the more intuitive user interface and experience.
@@GrayGhostDog1 I think the fender will get bass in a firmware update like the tonemaster pro is getting by the end of the year (confirmed by the dev team on discord)
Well, Katana Go is discontinued (at leas for now), so there is no question "which to buy". I like katana's controls a bit more, with banks and 3 presets per bank. Listing through 100 presets on mustang sounds like a pain. Plus katana has that fancy waza ambience something feature (not sure if useful or gimmick). And the whole ecosystem and community with tons of patches. Mustang has some great models (especially Fenders are quite believable as i've heard) and more convenient app. Seriously, those controls in the app look amazing, not just some tiny fiddly sensor knobs that other apps usually have but 2 alternative methods on top of that. I have a spark amp and i'm really not a bit fan of having just tiny knobs on a phone screen, sometimes it's hard to set precise values with those. Mb i'll wait for updated katana and then compare, not exactly in a hurry.
@@namesurname5409 fair enough. You can jump to any preset really quickly with the app. It compliments the usage although I get some don’t want the app open whilst playing. The community on the katana system is good but the mustang one is large now and the mustang micro plus has so many patches available to it already as so many have shared. It’s easier to try them too as you can audition them before deciding whether to download them or not. Also I found the boss system of downloading and transferring patches in and out very clunky. I appreciate there’s different priorities for different people so I always believe what’s right for me isn’t necessarily right for you. Either way we all love music and guitars so we’re all awesome 🙌 👍🏻🎸😂🤘
Indeed, the features are crazy for the money and the best feature is that it makes you grab your guitar more. Would be nice if it supported midi over usb so you van use a midi stompbox to switch presets
If you use a headless guitar, eart or strandberg for travel, neither unit fits in the jack well. I bought a 2m male / female guitar lead. Either place in a wireless pack case on your strap or leave on the desk if you’re hoteling. Not a criticism, just a thing. Fender for me, got both.
Very personable video but i really cannot agree with this methodology at all. Comparing fsctory presets or stock positions and amps that can have radically different sweet spots then not touching the noise suppresor? I have both, i think they both sound good, one is a fast track to basic tones, one is a slower track but far more refined tools. It maybe actually a moot point what with the Go discontinued. If we are to expect a V2 Go then i really hope you do a proper round 2 and produce your own finely honed tones in each . If you can get one to match the other then this is a bit more fair of a shootout. App ease of use hats off to Fender no question. The more flexible and powerful tool though this is not clear. I would really like to see the micro plus compared to the mustang and tone pro and can you in anyway share presets across them, this would be a huge advantage. The boss units the mkii presets which are a vast pool can be read by the Go. Again useless of you cannot lay hands on one, bad for BOSS but good for us guitarists as we can put in more time in our communities and owners groups and provide proper feedback to both Fender and BOSS and see who improves what. You have earned a subscriber mate. Keep it up. I would definitely clarify on your videos if they are independent or sponsored, it is the proper move to make.
@@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist my fave reply so far. Thanks for you detailed response. I do love all of us geeking out on gear. I agree with the preset thing but was just an example of a quick clean throw together with basic setup and a distorted equivalent. In this comparison I think that the Fender had WAY more noticeable delay. My playing around with both has led me to the same conclusion... the Fender you KNOW a lot more what you are dialing in with better naming and graphics and really I think the Fender in some weird way sounded less digital or more organic like you mentioned. Also.. the clean on the GO sounded way more muddy in the direct compare. One thing you didn't mention was what MODE was the Kat Go in? Direct or one of the stage modes? I've been using stage 1 in my comparisons because it out of the box sounded more close to how the output of the fender sounded just flat.
@@bub2010 do you mean delay effect or delay as in lag in the video to audio? The Katana Go was in mode 1. Definitely prefer the natural sound of the fender like you say. More valve amp and the katana seems more transistor amp. Cheers for watching and great comment 👍🏻
@johnoakleymusic the actual effect of delay was way more apparent on the fender. Again.. AB generic isn't gonna always be tbe same, but yea thats what I meant. And I suspected stage mode as direct sounds really studio/dry. Check out both of my def leppard patches under bub2010 on each platform.

The Fender doesn't even come close to the Katana for me. AFAIK you can only have one stomp box and one effect with the Fender and the boss has a footswitch.
@@gomezthechimp1116 the fender allows 5 pedals on plus the amp plus the ability to reorder them in any order you choose. The footswitch and session mode are the only two things I miss on the fender
I just bought the Fender Micro Plus and I love it. The Boss Katana GO was good, but there is a difference in the projection of both and I prefer the Fender, not because I bought one recently, but there is definitely a diiference in sounds between the two. Now, can you tweak and modify to make the Boss sound similar or better, sure. I think they are both great devices, but I have to tell you, I'm loving my Fender Micrco Plus. It is just amazing. The interface with my iPhone is outstanding.
This! This is what I'm saying in the vid. The Katana Go is a great product and I raved about it when it was released BUT I think the Fender has won the hearts of many and im still in shock they kept the price sensible when they easily could've upped these to £160 and people would've still bought them. Ease of use combined with quality sound and sensible money makes a winning package. What's not to love?
@@Nerotique I know what you mean but I’m sure they’ll issue updates to improve it even more over time like they have with the Tonemaster Pro (which is amazing by the way)
I'd watch what's being said here a bit mate. This is a bit misleading isn't it ? The mod switch allows you to assign and change a single parameter in one of the 5 blocks - that is it. The save button and the oled screen on the micro plus display changes made but the only actual change you can make is to that one parameter, anything else at all you need to open the app, so is this REALLY an advantage ? Both screens would appear to be OLED, there is little discernable difference. Top points for having 2 lines to place a more instructive preset name - definitely in fenders favour. Referencing up to the 5th minute...
@@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist it’s a major advantage for somebody that wants the ability to tweak a parameter within the device on the go mid song. I was about to bite the bullet on the Katana Go as I'd outgrown my original NUX Mighty Plug. Then of course it went AWOL due to the parts issue. Obviously the tones are key but here's my penny worth. What could be a clincher is the ease of use. The Fender more graphical interface looks a lot more user friendly particularly for newbies. However, the Boss community is huge and people have a lot of faith in Boss effects and you can do things like twin delays. Ultimately, you'd like to think that the Micro Plus will force Boss to pull their fingers out and release a Go Mark 2 as soon as possible with maybe some little tweaks. The issue with the parts is a curious one and is it the whole truth? It was flying off the shelves so maybe Boss thought they may have under priced it? Was the timing of it's release in any way effecting sales of the Gen 3 Katana combos?
some good points there. I suspect a mk2 will arrive next summer as will take a while to redesign plus put into production and they surely wont be stupid enough to not add features or improve upon it at the same time? May as well. I also suspect the Fender will get better with firmware just like the TMP has massive since its release. The User Interface is amazing. I think there's a massive case for the argument of who doesnt want it to be easy to use? Not just newbies. Great sound is also a huge factor to me and this has it. I think there'll be more options open up in the near future for the freedom to place a compressor in a different slot for instance as at the moment its in the same grouping as a chorus pedal so that'll have to change to allow chorus and compressor at the same time. It was weird that they had a parts shortage so quickly after release when they were selling so well like you say. Big mistake on somebody's part in the company. Thanks for watching. As an owner of the Boss Katana GO, the one clear merit of the fender one is that you get 30 customisable user presets..... something I wish boss has provided..... especially considering boss has the A-B-C preset slot patches, I would've loved to have had a clean, fx and distortion..... Plus the Katana go has very 80s friendly tones, while I was more inclined towards 90s and early 2000s patches.....I wish boss upgrades with a firmware update

@@ivanstankovic7522 hi. Do you mean the ability to preset time stamps for patch CG angles in a backing track? Thanks for watching

You gonna wait for a KatGo2 or go for the Fender then?

As an owner of the Boss Katana GO, the one clear merit of the fender one is that you get 30 customisable user presets..... something I wish boss has provided..... especially considering boss has the A-B-C preset slot patches, I would've loved to have had a clean, fx and distortion..... So I have the boss Katana:go and it does in fact have an oled display, contrary to what this nob says. Also, you can change between presets while playing with the Katana:Go AND the Katana:go works with a bluetooth pedal allowing you to switch between patches with a pedal. TOP THAT.

I was referring to tweaking the patch on the unit using the modifier which the Katana Go doesn’t have. There’s no need to be rude sir. I appreciate your comment and yes the footswitch thing would be a great final addition to the fender.
@@johnoakleymusic indeed I am feeling very rude today not sure what's come over me. Calling someone a nob on the internet gives me a little burst of some neurotransmitter I'm sure. We're all trapped in these techbro games. nob nob nob nob nob. There it's out of my system. Probably need to go cold turkey from computers generally. But my comment about the oled display stands. Apologies good Sir and I tip my hat to you.
@@ianrobbins 🤣😂
Do you know if the Katana Go will be back in production soon? They discontinued it over high priced parts availability. When I decided to get one they were sold out. It was something that caught me off guard, as I was not expecting that. What are the odds?
@@jameslanclos568 I read in a couple of places they may redesign it to be able to make it again but if they redesign it, if they have any sense, they'll make it slightly better too at the same time and address some of the negatives from reviewers and call it a GO2 ;) (BOSS, you can have that name, no charge) :P
Katana its like a Commodore 64 operative sistem .what a idiots engineers.
@@b-race2955 yeah it’s very outdated
I'm sorry
TUNE your guitar.
There's nothing more disappointing than one of these detailed videos going well, and when a guitar is finally played, IT'S OUT OF TUNE !
How are we to believe any opinions if the guitar can't even be properly tuned. Perhaps the strings are being pressed to hard.
Nothing worse than someone trying to elevate them selves the comments of a guitar video by pointing out and out of tune guitar after the fact to try and elevate themselves. Even with an out of tune guitar you get the idea how these things sound. Don’t be a dick to folk. It doesn’t make you appear smarter it makes you look pathetic.
@@ThuderDuck OOF......They walked into that one. 🤣🤣
@@ThuderDuck Only thing worse than someone doing what you point out is actually your reaction..
Oh, and the guitar was indeed out of tune, and it does sound pretty bad.
@@MrAntisound I don’t need to prove to strangers on the internet I have an ear for a tuned guitar for some shallow clout. I and the majority of players could hear it. It’s really irrelevant. If anything PM the guy and if he’s bothered about it he can change it. It doesn’t elevate a person to try and publicly put someone down. Quite the opposite.
Why are we still talking about Katana Go? It is discontinued. Impossible to buy except maybe used. Can you please do a real comparison between Mustang Micro Plus and NUX Mighty Amp?
Thanks for watching. I’m looking into that at the moment and reckon it’ll happen soon…. What’s your amp of choice?
You can still get them in Australia. Several stores around me have 10+ in stock.
Discontinued, yeah. Impossible to buy? Nah
I have buy a new one katana Go yesterday. I'm in Mexico and it's still in stock:)
Yeah some places still have them. New one is apparently being made for release this year. Was a manufacturing issue that stopped them
I have a go but haven’t gotten my head around the interface yet.
I was considering a micro plus due to the amps and the ease of use.
Watching a couple of UA-cam videos has meant I better understand the Go and I think it does better on pedals.
Do they both just have one gain stage?
@@stone3359 the interface is light years ahead on the Mustang Micro plus. Yes and no. You obviously have the amp gain too so sort of two. There’s no sound on the go you can’t match or better on the Fender in my opinion even after living with both for a few months now. Such a brilliant product
