Phil your a life saver. Your videos help out a ton. Can you do one on Compressing the drums? I normally us the built in ones but its not doing what it could be doing. Thanks Tim
Hi Phil, could you please explain how to use and set up the compressor on a bus to work as a limiter for kind of a protection when using the buses for in-ear monitoring? Thx a lot!
Phil.... some settings for using this compressor like a limiter. Have one singer, once he gets going gets LOUD.... then softer (moves away from the mic)... but when he gets LOUD.... hes booming.... tnnx
is there somewhere to get presets for like different vocals, guitars, bass, drums etc... I see the basic built in setting, just curious if there is some place that has a nice selection of presets for us less than great sound guys trying not to sound less than great : )

Hi Phil - thanks very much for these helpful videos. I have extra channels on my XR18 and was wondering whether it would make sense to use for parallel compression on the vocal (in a live setting). I was thinking of using the Routing tab to route the vocal mic input to, say, channel 1 (clean) and channel 10 (for the duplicate). I would then have the Compressor in channel 1 off and do a heavy compression in channel 10 (standard NYC or parallel compression-style). Then, adjust/blend channel 10 in to add some quality to the uncompressed version in channel 1. Do you see any reason why that solution would not work? Perhaps this can be done by sending channel 1 pre-fader to another channel as well? David
+David Judson This will indeed work, if you assign everything correctly and carefully blend both signals to your output busses then you should be able to achieve the best of both signals.
Sweet way to explain compression Phil !!! I love the XR 18 and the way you explain things about it !!!!
Thanks for explaining how compression works. Great job.

Practical Phil....thanks man for making it make sense!
“Use compression like salt.” Love that!
