That's exactly why they're telling you don't keep it in the car. Scumbags. Let's also not forget the advice to leave your keys out for the theives...from cops clearly involved in the theft rings themselves.
I bought a new car last year, and the Ontario license bureau staff (in Ottawa) told me that copies of my registration are not acceptable - we have two drivers, so they told me to keep the original in the glove compartment…. So who do you believe?
Might want to update the service Ontario website if you're allowing digital copies of documents now. I renewed my driver's license online and was instructed that the temporary document had to be printed and carried with my old license and that showing proof on a cell phone was not valid.
As an owner of a shop years ago I extended into the world of used car sales. I always kept original ownership in a file for each car. The insurance was a blanket policy that covered everything in the business. Once I got pulled over , no reason of my driving. The cop said he pulled me over because I had a dealer plate and he wanted to check papers. I ended up with a $90 fine for not having the original ownership in the car, he wouldn’t accept the photo copy all the used cars had. If it wasn’t for this you tube today I wouldn’t have known the new “recommendation “ Myself , until the “ recommendation “ is actually a law I’ll stick to the old way.
The difference today is that police cars are equipped with computers that can make a quick verification of many things like registration and most likely, insurance as well. I don't think it will be necessary in the future to have any papers, and that automated cameras can randomly do these checks in the future, so as to prevent exportation or use of stolen cars or delinquent license or insurance.
Never ever keep any documents in your car ! The same applies to any valuable objects ! The best way to avoid your car from been stolen, is to make the job of thieves more difficult; so they will steal the next car. Things to do to make the the job of thieves more difficult;b RFID protection sleeves, having your glass windows marked, install a bar on the car steering .
How about bring back capital punishment to help clear up the judicial system so we can properly discipline criminals instead of just letting them go because the jails are full?
Keep high quality photos on our phones? I thought we weren't allowed to use our phones while the vehicle is operating? If someone is pulled over for a traffic stop and they have their vehicle in park (still operating a motor vehicle technically) and they show their documents to a police officer on their phone... is that police officer going to also give them a ticket for illegal mobile electronic usage?
And while you've handed your phone to the police they go through the rest of your data and personal information. Plus, how am I going to record the police if they have my phone?

Does not work if you have two drivers

Better to pay a $90 fine than work to change the policies.

Turn the engine off and remove keys.
It says keep photocopies too as an option aside from keeping a copy digitally.

Folks have been charged locally in quebec for having their phone within arms reach
Soooo then, we have to give the cop our phone to take to their vehicle to verify info; no thanks.
Of course!
Until cops stops you and won't accept copies
Why would you ever leave your ownership paper in the car 😂... all u need is the mvi, permit and insurance card.....
We could do a car dealership opem house.
How about jail not bail
Its ALL our fault.
Who can afford car and car insurance?

Welcome to Trudeau's Canada, where you leave the thief your keys and make sure your driving documents are not stored in the vehicle they're for.
