That's nonsense! There was NEVER a time in Cuba when Doctors and Taxi Drivers made the same. Cuba's payment program was much more like the General Schedule (GS) today in the United States. No, I don't support full-on Communism, but that is a flat out lie to say that unskilled workers made the same as skilled workers. The wage scaling wasn't designed to level the playing field, the wage scaling was designed to ensure that people with desperate circumstances didn't undercut the wages of everyone. And of course the cartoon leaves out the two BIGGEST considerations that ruined Cuba's economy. 1. War. Cuba, ever since the Cuban Missile Crisis has had to expend an inordinate amount of their money to hold America at bay. Their military made up a LARGE portion of their GDP and somebody had to pay it... so the government took full control of people's earnings and used this as a mechanism to pay the country's bills... while trying to maintain a stable economy. Yes, they failed, but the United States is no small enemy. 2. EMBARGO! No mention of the Embargo?!?! Cuba relied HEAVILY on trade with the United States, but the United States decided they wanted to intervene in Cuba's Communist Economy. America doesn't do trade with Communist countries... except all the others... huh... wait a minute... Why didn't the USA have an embargo against China? Why was there never an embargo against Vietnam or korea? Even now, the lack of trade between the USA and North Korea is from THEIR SIDE. The USA uses their trade as a broker of peace all over the world... but not Cuba... and economically suffocated Cuba for 50 years and controlled their imports for much of that time also. You don't think THAT might have something to do with the state of their economy, do you? And I'm not even saying we shouldn't have done that btw. Cuba was far too friendly with the Soviet Union, and the United States treated them accordingly. Cuba was the base of the world's biggest proxy war (if we're calling the Cold War a war). THAT is what held their economy down. None of this is a shining review for Communism, but let's be real... Communism was probably Cuba's 4th biggest problem behind the United States, Russia, and Geography. Communism was a necessary evil for them. Did they make the optimal decisions? Hard to tell. They were in a no-win situation being jerked between the 2 largest superpowers in World History engaged in establishing the next new world order. Cuba didn't have any good options.

Alright kids, let’s do some extracurricular work! This video states that wages under capitalism are determined by the value a profession has to society. A doctor saves lives, and a can save a walk across town. What happens when you live in a town where infrastructure is based on vehicle transportation? What happens when you work in the city but don’t make a large enough wage to afford city rent and food prices? What happens when you, like millions of Americans, live below the poverty line - unable to afford a car, gas, maintenance, insurance, and inspections? Suddenly, affordable means of transportation, like taxis or bus’s are no longer unessential services, but a service that is necessary to live and work. Yet the wages of these workers in capitalist countries are low. What of farmers who cultivate our food, the stockers and truck drivers who transport them to grocery stores, and the grocery store workers who allow us to eat every day? Is food not an essential need to live? These services must then create value for society. What of educators who raise the new generation of doctors, lawyers, engineers farmers, and laborers? What of labor workers who build our hospitals, roads, and homes? Or retail works who provide you the ability to purchase the clothes on your back, the bowls you eat from, and the device you used to watch this video? These are all low paying professions, yet essential for our society to function and for us as individuals to survive? So why are doctors valued more in a capitalist society? Privatized education necessary to to go to a good medicine school, the tuition of medical schools themselves, and the tutors these children often need to pass the standardized testing to get into these schools to begin with, are all incredibly expensive. These schools and resources are practically unreachable unless you are born into a family with the means to afford these services. Professions like these pay significantly more because those with wealth have the power to dictate wealthy professions, and insure that the vast majority tjise who have access to these professions come from wealthy affluent families. This allows these families to maintain their wealth, status, and power to shape our society to their benefit. This is why private corporations have the power to lobby politicians, or create super PAC’s to give millions in campaign spending to get those who will represent the interest of the wealthy in to power. This is why the wealth gaps in our country widens each year, this is why federal minimum wage has remained the same for 50 years, yet the price of living has grown exponentially, this is why the wealth has transferred from the bottom 90% to the top 1%. Capitalism doesn’t distribute wealth based on value, but is a means for wealth to remain in the hands of the wealthy and out of the hands of the people.
Did anyone who storyboarded this actually visit Cuba? Or did they just look up “Havana” on google? I just vacationed there and went around the entire city, and it does NOT look like this.

Firstly, the reason why it probably looks like that is because of the sanctions against Cuba by the United States for over 3 and a half decades. Socialism has allowed the people of Cuba to enjoy modernity, healthy, long-lived lives that were impossible before the revolution because of the slave labour on the sprawling sugar plantations before the revolution under Batista's regime.
They have literally no knowledge of what happened, what was the cause of it, and simply put, cherry picking information to the extreme.

Derrick had seen some things for the past 80 years.
Did anyone who storyboarded this actually visit Cuba? Or did they just look up “Havana” on google? I just vacationed there and went around the entire city, and it does NOT look like this.
That is an exaggerated version of it, for the drama, but I've lived in Cuba for 22 years and I can tell you everything they say is true. The toxic garbage and the run down buildings don't appear so much on the city center but as you explore more it appears way too frequently
having doctors as the highest paid job is HILARIOUS
My family came from Vietnam and my parents left in the late 2000s so my family could have a better life

Doesnt equal pay(if done correctly) fix the problem of over saturation in jobs that require passion?
When Cuba reformed to be more Capitalist in the recently, fruit farmers became the best paid.
Compara Pinochet's Chile to Castro's Cuba...
The socialist government is the problem, not the US sanctions which barely affects the life of locals.
They have literally no knowledge of what happened, what was the cause of it, and simply put, cherry picking information to the extreme. They left out why was Cuba being sought out for by the American government for years. How Cuba was being exploited prior before Castro (not saying Castro was any better mind you).
Do I agree that communism has hurt Cuba? It has, but there is far more to the history of Cuba than this scene really is showing. Lots of missing contexts, omissions of information and lack of understanding the history of what really happened there.
@@thekingofthings2002 I did include that Castro himself didn't make things any better nor was it good for what he has done.
I'll be real with ya, I don't have that first-hand knowledge on what really went down in Cuba, how it is to live down there, etc.
You're right though. I WAS kinda miffed about some parts of the scenes on this show. But then again, I don't know much about the true history of Cuba.

absolutely disgusting literally putting libertarian propaganda into childrens' mouths, esp that part where the kids suddenly become libertarian for no other reason than the script, morally bankrupt show
This is straight up false propaganda
It’s the truth, kid

Let’s ignore the past capitalist oppression caused by the US forced onto Cuba, Castro was a hero to the Cuban people, if capitalism was so good in Cuba, why did they get rid of it
My dude, you're assuming they had a choice.
Jamás pensé que nadie se atreviera a hacer una serie en la que se critican las ''políticas'' socialistas por su incoherencia y sinsentido. Mi enhorabuena.
You forgot to include the part where the raccoon gets treatment at the hospital, and then is billed a hundred thousand dollars. Oh wait, that would be the United States. Healthcare in Cuba is free.
If you can actually find it. You think with the few doctors they have, that raccoon would actually get the treatment before he croaked? Britain has bootleg socialist healthcare and their NHS waiting times are still absurd.
@@1kraniCuba had an insane amount of doctors. Their medical schools are so good that international students flock to Cuba for med school. Their doctors are so good that they travel internationally to help give aid to other countries
