Thank you! Will do! 😘
Same here.
Always like what you do we as a family would often go to cemeteries just to do what you guys do after all the dead is our history and our legacy😀👍👍👍.
Well done Timothy, it's so important to remember
Buried in the 1100s, it's mind boggling that they found her! This cemetery is full of historical jewels Sue, so glad you found it. Wish you had more time to spend there though. Thanks for zeroing in on the High Cross. Stay dry you two. Deb of Oz. XXX
Thanks Deb, I might go back, as often as I've been to Kilkenny I did not know this was here, it's amazing
Yay! SS&IE2!
Beautiful graveyard! So old and so much history! I hope they can finish restoring it in the future. Thanks so much Sue!
I hope so too! Thanks Liz x
Hey sue will watch on catch up x
No bother Shaun, thanks
Beautiful church and graveyard. I hope they get the funding to complete the renovations.
Me too Don, that would be great
Thank you for another glimpse into the past; such beautiful and interesting monuments. The church and tombs being preserved, when so many have been lost to time and decay ❤
Hopefully they get enough funds to restore the stones completely
Such a beautiful graveyard and so historic! Really enjoy the history there. Thank you for sharing Sue!
Thank so much Pamela
Thank you for such an interesting video. It's so good that the church is being used as a museum instead of falling into ruin.
Absolutely 💯 agree, I see so many in ruins in Ireland
Hi Sue! Great video again!
That one mausoleum with the tiny door, if you look close at the brick and stone work, you can see an arch where a large doorway may have been before, and then sealed up. I would think they opened the stonework to look inside!
It is so wonderful to see the restoration going on! The straps around the tiny mausoleums is to keep the walls stable, and the boxed up mausoleums are very badly damaged, and need better protection, until they can get to work on them.
When you mentioned fire inside of a mausoleum, I knew the answer to that! Not all mausoleum interiors are damp and moldy, some are very dry like tinder, and any dried flowers left inside along with the wood coffins and any funeral furniture inside would be very flammable to any stray flame from a candle or torch!
Any coffin that someone of a well to do family would be lead lined inside, which would protect the wood on the outside from rotting, and the outside may have fabric panels which would add fuel to any fire!
So, many of the mausoleums were prone to burning if anyone went inside without knowing the dangers of having open flames!
Thanks so much Jeffrey, I really hope enough funding can be collected to restore the tombs and headstones, that little door was as you said too. I did wonder how a fire could happen but you've answered that for me, thanks again
It's absolutely astounding at how many layers of history are in that place.
It's amazing, very historic place
What an ancient and beautiful place. They have tried hard to protect the remains and history of those there.
Thanks for watching
Very good program Miss Sue. Beautiful area and very interesting history. We enjoyed it very much. Thanks for all you do. Georgia USA.
Thanks Steve ❤️
This is very interesting and the church is beautiful 😍 ❤❤
Thanks x
Love old cemeterys and churches. I like this video
Thanks very much ❤️
Thank you sue for another fine viewing of a historical Cemetery. Thank you so much for a fun tour.
Thanks Joel, as always you're welcome
The history is amazing, the stonework and headstones are absolutely stunning. St. Mary's offers up so much history, I love the study of archaeology. I wish my sister would have done something with her degree but financially the digs were donated time and political so she ended up on another path. Just imagine finding this history below the foundation. This just amazes me. Thank you Sue & GV.
Thanks so much, its fascinating, I'd love to be part of an archaeology dig, can you imagine unearthing all the history,
Exactly!
Very cool story and graveyard thank you Sue 😀
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely amazing! Hopefully they can continue to work to preserve the graveyard. Thanks Sue!
I hope so too! Thank you ❤️
Wow, this was great, stay safe, and as always good hunting. 👻☠👻
Thanks Megs
Wonderful video again. And such a well preserved chapel. It showed the people who built it had a lot of respect for tthe people buried there
It os a beautiful place. Kilkenny is absolutely amazing too
Very nice video thanks for sharing what you could.
My pleasure
Just loved this great old church and graveyard..The history is amazing..Hope they get the funding they need..Another fantastic video Sue..Keep them coming 😘
Thanks Maureen ❤️
Love this amazing history 😊
All the times I've visited kilkenny I didn't know it was here, so fantastic
What a beautifully done video! I certainly hope that restoration of the church - interior and exterior - and of course the graves and mausoleums can go forward. Of course, it takes tons of money and the work is tedious and expensive. But it would be great if they could restore it all and eventually even recreate the interior of the church to approximate what it would have looked like in the medieval period.
I wonder if Kilkenny has applied to have the castle, church and surrounding area designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site? If not, it really should be. That designation can really boost tourism and call attention to the need for donations to help restore and maintain historic cultural properties.
Thanks very much for bringing such a beautifully done video to the channel! All the best from the USA.
Thank you, I know that kilkenny Council now own this church and with tours going on hopefully they make some more funding
Such a beautiful, historic place to visit. So happy they are trying to restore it.
I hope eventually they do too
Sue always know what gets us going 😂😂 Sometimes I have to catch my breath 🫁🫁😅

@@SerenitySueGraveyards All is well here, just hot, it's gonna be a hot well. Every day in the 100's. We might get some rain next weekend and cool off a little.
So incredibly fascinating.. these have been places where people have gathered, worshipped, part of a community.. can you imagine it?? so much more than their last resting place
Absolutely agree
How interesting the range of burials in one place it makes you wonder what else could be there .
Oh there's so much under ground I'd imagine
A very nice old cemetry

Wow, great eye sight Peter, I didn't see that in edit, so I paused it and yrs it says Australia for sure WOW!!
@@SerenitySueGraveyards if you or GV have time might be good to enquire as to what connection Sophie or her family had with Oz.
I forget what year she passed so would be interesting to know more, nite from ballarat in Oz,safe travels,🙏🙏😴😴🇦🇺
Sacred/ to the memory of/ SOPHIE/ the beloved wife of/ Sir Charles Mac Mahon/ of/ Melbourne, Australia/ died 30th May 1878.
Found this Peter
@@SerenitySueGraveyards we had a prime minister by the name of William McMahon in the 70s,went swimming one day ,never been found.may have been a descendant of this family.
That's so nice hope they can get the money to work on it some more would love to come there and visit love you guys
I hope so too.
Sir Charles MacMahon was born in County Tyrone and immigrated to Australia where he became a politician and Police officer. He died in Melboune. His wife Sophie was on a visit to England for her health when she took ill and died. This may account for Sir Charles not being buried there.
Thanks for that x
I like grave yard and church
Serenity Sue I live in Texas, USA bur I've visited Ireland 3 times. = = = I remember visiting an old ruin, around Stone fort. It was on the shore one of the lakes of Killarney. It was right in front of the "Hotel Europe". Any Idea what that fort, church and cemetery was?
I wonder was it muckross Abbey?? That's near a lake. Few miles from the town? There is a few dotted around there
That first crypt you took us to had a skull showing from the bottom on the left
5:51
I know the girl did say in there that there is remains left there
Hello Sue
Hi peter
I watched this whole video and then noticed it was a live chat! I always watch on my phone and to get a better picture, I flip it sideways to see more and up-close. That's probably why I didn't know it was a live chat.
But on another note, I was watching one of your videos from yesterday and it was a live chat. I tried and tried to get in the chat room and it wouldn't let me. It would not let me in so I just watched the whole thing and tried to leave a comment but to no avail and exited out. I thought I would just go back in and leave a comment. It still wouldn't let me leave a comment so I waited a bit longer. I went in one more time and it said the video had been deleted by the up loader. Is this because I haven't joined your club? I won't do that because Patreon will not delete an ongoing donation I have had for over 10 years. I no longer want to donate to that channel. I am going to have to close the checking account completely to get rid of the Patreon donation that dings my account every month. I am really pissed about it. So I won't do that again. Sorry to sound so harsh. I am just tired of being taken advantage of. Can you tell me if I did something wrong or if that is just what happens if you are not a member of the club? XO Sue! ♥️
No Janet not at all, we had played music for sinead o connor and I didn't want to get a strike for it so I deleted it
Also ask your bank to stop that money coming out that's terrible, or I can talk you through it. As I say it was a normal live but we played music so I'd deleted it altogether or I can get in trouble, nothing you did, or anything, love ya sue
What was the reason. For using lead coffins? Awesome video Sue 🍀
I think to slow the body's decomposition by keeping moisture out of the casket. Lead does not rot and so remains airtight, preventing decomposition, but also any smells and gases from being released too
@@SerenitySueGraveyards thanks Sue
Those stones were hand carved. What amazing pieces of art. I feel sorry for the man who was almost finished and broke the stone or made a spelling error.
I've seen those errors, it must have been terrible, great craftsmanship
Ha ha… just came back from visiting family in Killkinney
Brilliant
Creepy looking tombs sue
Ye, they were
Sorry I missed you.
That's OK x x
Hi
Hi
What's behind the tiny door?! You should have peeked!
Couldn't get into it as it was locked with a gate, or I'd definitely been in there lol I'm presuming it's from the dig and they went in under??
Owe! In the video it looked close enough that you could just reach in and open, but i assume the bars in Gate to narrow to reach through & or the door set further in from the gate then it looks! Cool just the same!
Yes I goy my arm in and gimble but it was still too far to reach in
\My Moms Father was buried in a Catholic cemetary, in Fife Scotland, approximatly 1957-8 have you been there ? Gayle, in Whitby, On. Canada xo Sorry, his name was David Barrett....
I've been to Scotland but it was about 5 years ago, before my youtube days x x
Wasn't a cave found recently and inside they found Skeletons of Vikings & also swords etc.
I heard of skeletons found yes, not sure of area, how amazing
My mothers maiden name was kennar.
I've never heard of the name before, great you made the connection ❤️
It’s ok preserving these tombs, but what’s the point if you can’t see them?
I know but my thinking would be when they fix them they'll remove the box, I hope so anyway
Such a shame of conditions and funding. Sorry l have not comment have not been well
Hey Sue I'm so sorry, I hope you're doing OK x x
The woman is very noisy shouldn't be looking in ther leave them in peace shouldn't be doing that
It's there to be looked at and into, loads doing the same, yet you clicked on the video 🤭🤔
Noisy or nosey..in any case, she is neither.
