- When to use bus lanes www.driving-school-beckenham....
Look out for a blue bus lane sign that will tell you when the bus lane is in operation. If it doesn't display any times, then it will be operational 24 hours a day and should be avoided. If you are allowed in the bus lane, then you should use it (if it's safe and convenient) to allow other road users to overtake you and ease congestion. Failure to use a bus lane when you're allowed to on the driving test could result in a serious fault (fail).
Bus lane markings start as a dashed line that turns into a solid white line.
Bus lane signs that are shown in the video may have changed since the filming of this video.

A hard to see sign with small words, after you see it and think about what day is the day and what time is that time... Insane with just only imagine
Because everyone can effortlessly read a paragraph on a road sign at 30mph, determine the time from the sun's position, perform rapid non-decimal unit mental math, all while keeping a vigilant eye on the road.
It's funny the amount of people who see a bus lane and go ahhhh and stick well clear of one and I just go thanks and go down them. One good thing about being a bus driver and actually paying attention
Being a Hero of a person you don't even know is a bless.
You are my Hero and many more people around the world.
I came to your channel as newbie and today i have my first car and passed the test with the least money and time because of you.
I will always say Thank you and Thank you .
Great instructor as always.

Top level driving channels
Very nice advicd bro thanks
Thanks man. Yeah I got done for driving in bus lane. Took a wrong turn lol in Brighton. It was a road previously open to all but for some reason did the dumb dumb move near The Level jointing London road. 🤦🏽♂️
Would hate to take a test in central Brighton. Not a great place to drive at the best of times. 😅
Thanks
To add to the confusion these can also be sign posted "Width gate" and is designed to catch tourists using blue signs instead of red. Council need to install RED "DO NOT ENTER" signage for the bus lane and and not on the road because the signage is up high and makes you look up.
Thanks for this video!! Another helpful one ❤ I never understood this sign until now 😊
Thanks for watching Joanne 🙂
@@worlddriving all good, can I ask if you can do a video explaining the blue sign where it's a picture of a car and it says 2+ on it please?
@@itsjoanne.x Official answer:
Vehicles permitted to use an HOV (High Occupancy Vehicles) lane ahead. HOV lanes or carpool lanes will have signs indicating the minimum number of people required in the vehicle for it to be allowed in the lane. In this case a car must have two or more people.
@@worlddriving thank you!! 😊
What is double red lines
Many drivers avoid bus lanes at all times. What happens if your watch or car clock is let's say 10.05 am but the lane is in operation upto 10am.
I also heard it's illegal to use a bus lane, even if it's for giving way to an ambulance or something.
This will be helpful for me next week on my driving test 😊
Pleased it helped. Good luck with your driving test 🙂
@@worlddriving thank you 😌
How’d you do?
Your voice sounds familiar for some reason, have you done voiceover work?
Also, funny the lane you show that's on the right hand side is removed now for cycle lanes instead, but I do know of one that's the right hand lane in one direction of of a two way road in Ealing so they're still out there.
I do wish we still made bus lanes with red tarmac but it seems they're only ever distinguished by the solid line now.
I don't know if it's the case in other cities but in London a lot of the time a bus lane will end at a junction, to allow more capacity for cars to get through it, then immediately the cars are meant to merge back into one lane as the bus lane reappears, can be very stressful if you don't know the area in advance as there's not lanes merging signs/markings...
Very helpful what should i do if For example if I'm approaching a live bus lane and the right hand lane is full of traffic back to back, would I then signal even though there is a car in the way? Because in other circumstances this can be deemed as changing the flow of the traffic?
It’s a nightmare when it’s fucking raining
Please teach uphill parking bay and parallel

weekends can bus lane be use in this case if only sign saying Mon-Friday (and time)
Yes 👍
What about driving outside London?
There is a bus lane near me which I'm able to use at specific times but when ever I enter the lane there is always parked vehicles scattered along. Should I enter the bus lane on my test if I drive on that route?
Hi Avoid the bus lane where the parked vehicles are.
@@worlddriving Thankyou 👍
It always amazes me just how few people read the bus lane times and give them a wide berth regardless of whether they're in operation or not. Plonkers sitting in heavy traffic in the outside lane, when there's a totally empty lane on the left. Perhaps they're simply illiterate and unable to read.
Understandable to a degree why people avoid them, sometimes there can be multiple bus lanes in succession with different times/conditions (or if you're TfL, change bus lane hours to all times but not update all of the signs, meaning there are signs for the exact same "piece" of bus lane that show conflicting information), but I'd have to agree that for the most part it's skill issue and choosing not to think and pay attention to signs.
Is the solid white line considered a "dashed line" when the lane is not in operation?
Of course, if it still meant it was solid then u wouldn’t be able to drive in them at all as the solid line would mean that it is the edge of the carriageway
3:14 So why is there a bus in the bus lane if it’s outside operation time, are they just travelling without passengers?
I am sure the times are based on how busy the area gets, not the bus schedule
Isn't this a reupload because I just saw this the other day
Yes, it's just been updated. Thanks for watching 🙂
@@worlddriving ohh okay thank you for letting me know, enjoying these videos aswell, very understanding

I'm thinking of learning to drive chris but i think i might be a little too old at 58, be honest what do you think 🤣
You can do it 👍
Your videos are excellent chris, you don't over complicate things at all.
Very uncanny timing given that I accidently drive in one yesterday when I should not have!
Words are extremely small and the sign is only readable once already in the bus lane...avoid the poxy things all together
But you failed to mention what to do to let emergency vehicles pass, to bus lane or not?
The emergency vehicle will normally use the bus lane if it's in operation 👍
@@worlddriving But the question is are we permitted to go into the bus lane to allow the emergency vehicle to overtake on the outside?
Only use the bus lane to let them pass if you're allowed to use it or you could get fined.
@@worlddriving so when the bus lane is in force, we cannot enter it under any circumstances? What if there's a broken down car or accident in front. How do I pass them?
Go round the obstruction, but not in the bus lane unless you're allowed.
Of course, use the bus lane to avoid having an accident.
