I passed on my 4th attempt, all 3 failed due to misinterpreting other drivers' intentions when entering a roundabout. I passed because I decided to change to 2nd gear when approaching a roundabout, which was something I didn't do before. This is my tip: If you select 2nd gear on approach, the car will be in the right gear if there is no traffic or you require power. But if there is someone approaching, you are going slow enough to safely stop and select 1st gear. This is something my driving instructor never shared with me so I want to help you save hundreds of pounds in failed exams.

I've had over 9 attempts at my driving test, and been learning (on and off) for a decade. I will never give up, because i've spent too much now. Being autistic means I find driving very difficult indeed. I can honestly tell you in ten years I finally understand how to choose which lane to use on roundabouts. i NEEDED to know this, and yet no one could explain.. not sure why. My improvement's already been noticed. THANK YOU!!

Nobody wants to trash their car. And I'm talking about everyone around you.
Just be decisive - that's the golden rule of driving.
If you find yourself in the wrong lane, just make it obvious by your actions which way you are going (not just indicators, but decisive car 'body language'). A slight move in the direction you want to go will often be enough to persuade other drivers to give way (except in London).
But be aware of whether that means a violent change in course - if so, you'll need to use your indicator.
Indecision is the only way you can fail the driving test in "open play". And, generally, the only way you can get trashed on the roads.
Be positive and assertive -make other road users know what you are planning to do. When you commit to an action - DO IT! Do not try to backtrack.
Let's say the examiner says "please take the 4th exit" at a terrifying roundabout, and you accidently go for the 3rd exit.
As long as you drive safely, you're still passing the exam. Use the 3rd exit - because that's what the other drivers are expecting you to do. Do NOT wildly veer towards the 4th at the last minute.
The examiner will understand. You are being tested on your ability to be a safe driver, not to follow instructions.
Under such pressure, and making such a mistake - any examiner would applaud you for making the safe choice. You'll pass. You took a decisive decision down the 3rd exit - it was the wrong one, but other road users weren't surprised by your action. Having made a navigational mistake, you did the right thing. Any driving examiner would lap that up! It shows decisiveness "I'm wrong, but I won't endanger other road users - so I'll take the course they expect me to take".
Also be reactive. The roads are filled top to bottom with morons who've all, in the distant past, passed the same exam as you have - and yet are such dreadful drivers as you wouldn't believe. If they can pass the test, then you've nothing to fear. . honestly, you don't.
But you need to show that you can press that brake pedal at a moment's notice - and not just when the examiner says so. Be ready at all times for these pricks. They're everywhere.
      Be decisive. Take control.
We need more good drivers on the road! I hope you pass.

Chris; I cannot thank you enough. I watched every single video that you've uploaded, so many times. I passed my theory 2 years ago (today) & basically I was with the 'wrong' driving instructor for more than a year. I was never at ease with him and he would cancel so many lessons at the last minute. In the year and a half I was driving with him he never once showed me a single manoeuvre and basically was coming across as saying that I wouldn't be ready for the practical test by the time my theory expired.
I got my act together in November after he cancelled a lesson yet again. I found a new instructor - an absolute gem of a person. I'm happy to say that I passed my practical test today with 3 minors. Such a relief. I think the main thing is just to have a positive mind and if you're not happy with your driving instructor - it's ok to ditch them!

Well I’m absolutely terrified of my test in 3 days… definitely gonna have two huge roundabouts and everything I thought my brain had registered seems to be missing today… 4 hours tuition left… no hope in hell without watching these videos endlessly. For some stupid reason I was telling myself that I won’t be taken on those ones in my test… looked up test routes… ofc I will, that’s why we’ve been damn practicing them! I need a chill pill and some miracle… my instructor tells me look behind me quick to left when I’m signalling left and coming off and it freaks me out not looking where the car is pointing on a busy roundabout for a split second… at speed… ok calm myself down … 3 days to get brain understanding everything. I wanna reschedule but he said I’m ready it’s just nerves today 🤯 there’s gonna be more on test day though!!
This was a panic rant… good luck Everyone!
The how to tell when to go is really helpful bc that’s been confusing yhe hell out of me and you need to know and decide so fast to get on!

My driving instructor never told me what to watch out for on busy roundabouts, he just tells me "you can go now, go, go" when he's beside me when I'm driving. But you took your time to give tips, e.g.watch out for their front wheels, their position, their angle and which car is existing the roundabout. Wow! Examiners have failed pupils on tests just for just going slightly on the painted bit of the mini roundabout. So beware you need to go around the mini roundabout when going ahead or right.
5 golden rules when observing traffic at roundabouts.
    1. Look early for gap or its clear
    2. Look for blockers ie traffic coming from ahead which is going to block traffic to your right.
    3. Get your timing just right so don't move when other drivers are moving. Or are on the roundabout
    4. Giveway to traffic to you right
    5. If in doubt wait don't rush look for a better opportunity.

I have had several lessons and I find roundabouts (one of) my weak points. My driving instructor showed me this clip and it have helped me gain confidence when approaching roundabouts. She has given me handouts, diagrams, used running commentary when dealing with this and it started to sink in. But all of those resources accompanied with this has made understanding it a hell of a lot easier. It finally clicked what I needed to do! I can watch this after my lesson and go back over what happened and break down what I did well and what could have gone better. The fact I can go over this a 100 times helps a lot! I am no longer terrified of large roundabouts (or 'rings of hell' as I used to call them...). Really recommend to all drivers. Keep up the amazing work! xxx :)

Thank you Chris for your great videos. Happy to tell you that I passed first time and I have to give credit to your channel.
Fantastic demos with views from different angles, clear
explanations, what-ifs in the end, and the pace and tone of your calming voice are some of the highlights of your channel. Your videos on driving tests, clutch control, sat-nav, roundabouts were very useful in preparing for my test and I have watched them several times.
Mock videos really helped in preparing mentally for the exam, understanding what to expect and it also increased my confidence! I did 20 private lessons and my instructor always made me feel nervous and incompetent (It was a gimmick to sign up for more lessons). So a big thank you for helping me along this journey in learning how to drive and be a safe driver.
