- THIS FAMILY OF FOUR are making a name for themselves in the dog breeding world - specialising in GINORMOUS Neapolitan Mastiffs. Inland Empire Mastinos, in California, breed these huge guard dogs that have been used to intimidate intruders since the days of Ancient Rome and have been increasing in popularity in recent years. Co-owner Albert told Barcroft TV: “The defining features that make a top-quality Neapolitan Mastiff are big bones, big block heads, good girth on the whole body itself.” A top-quality Neapolitan Mastiff puppy from these guys can cost up to $8,000 dollars.

I had one and It was heart breaking to see a beautiful dog like this with all health problems they have from skin problems to the bone problem, I’m never gonna keep pure breed again, it’s hard to see them die this early that too painfully.
Have a cross between French mastiff and napolean mastiff it will live longer. I have an French mastiff he is beautiful but has back leg issue and he is just 1 year old.
get a working line dog if u want a mastiff.. unfortunately neapolitan mastiff turned into really fat show dogs with a lot of health problems
They destroyed the breed & turned them into shar pei’s.
I have a neo mastiff X cane corso. She still has wrinkles but less in the face and back. Hopefully she won’t have as many skin problems
I know, I looked up the age range for them and the average is 7 years. That’s not long for a dog at all. I’ve had dogs my whole life and they usually live until 14 or 15. If people get this breed they should get them from a rescue and not a breeder because they need homes, although it would still hurt to see them suffer.

Look for ultimate mastiff it’s cross between French mastiff and napoleon mastiff it will live longer than both parents and if it gets brown fur from French mastiff it will look even more beautiful

My sweet mastiff died a couple weeks ago from bone cancer. He wasn’t even 7 years old. He was the best dog we ever had, such a shame they are predisposed to all these health issues

This is what happens if dogs are bred for show people tend to exagerate and those dogs win the show and then are bred off , the same goes for every other breed. Just Google for photo's of this breed, Old Type Mastino Napolitano, from 50 years ago. Or for English Bulldog, German Shepherd, Dachshund etc. photo's, dogs looked different in those days of yore because they weren't bred only for looks......
I currently own a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, it is my third, the first one I owned 30 years ago was a slouch...... after that I looked for Staffordshire Bull Terriers of working stock, which were leaner , more athletic. So the second dog I owned was a game-bred dog , son of the famous BMC's Judas Iskariot (2 xW), a Psycho strain dog and now I own another Psycho-dog, a grand son of that Judas.
Mastino Napolitanos a century ago looked like the Cane Corso we have today.......

This is so unethical to keep breeding them for useless excessive wrinkles. They are highly unathletic dogs now. They looked like cane corsos just 30-40 yrs ago. They were basically the same working breed. So sad the direction this breeding has gone. Humans f up everything

Dogs are intelligent enough to understand the situation. On a nice walk next to the owner the dog is calm and friendly. Now at home, faced with an unknown intruder, without the calming presence of the owner...things might be a different story when the dog goes into protection mode.

When I were were young we had a Neapolitan mastiff she was big for a female 14.5 stone 92kg or 203 lb she didn’t have a massively droopy face like you see these days she wasn’t over breed just a beautiful dog and would fight to the death for here family

Right i had trained a few for a friend and they are good dogs , i actually think they are cute not as heavy of skin tho while they had wrinkles it was not like this, all 3 where the black brindle or i think they call it reverse brindle

I had one, female, lived to 9.5 years, less wrinkly than these, would circle a stranger, get closer, and closer until she was right against you, and you don’t move or she’d take you down, totally untrained for that, but very obedient, intelligent as heck. Had to euthanise her due to megaesophagus, she had demodex all her life but Bravecto flea tablets controlled that. These are the best mastiff you can get.

Living seems like such a heavy task for these dogs.. i think the owners take really good care of them, but their bodies just look so heavy and tiresome to carry around :(

This isn't what they originally looked like. Breeders start breeding for these flaws and then they have all kind of health issues. Short life spans. I know people that have them and they've never had one live past 6-7 yrs

@@unitevers7165 you can get some really good dogs from a shelter. My buddy picked one up and got her to trust him and his family. The dog was super protective of them and obedient. But my friend was one of those super kind, patient guys. I think it takes a special person to train abandoned dogs: either gotta be patient or know how to get into their minds like Cesar. I usually can't be bothered, which is why I don't own one.

We had a male to protect our pub when I was younger honestly, the strongest dog I have ever encountered, he weighed 224lbs when we rescued him from the shelter and had serious issues with food/dog aggression, we worked with him on that and he was ok with family touching his food but anyone else would lose a limb unfortunately the dog aggression could not be trained out of him, he was only accepting of our then puppy Jack Russel terrier female who would hang off the skin on his neck when playing lol 😂. Incredible family dogs he was the biggest teddy bear with me when I was young, a lot of work for sure but worth it. R.I.P juke you were the best.

The name mastiff belongs to the English mastiff. Mastiff is actually a category of dogs, the Molossus.All dogs with mastiff in their name owe their history to the old English mastiff and were bred from them with a history that goes back 2000 years. There are many mastiff breeds, and the Neapolitan mastiff should be referred as either Neapolitan mastiff, or simply Neapolitan. They can't all be called mastiff, is too generic! Be proud of what makes them unique! They are amazing dogs! There is a mastiff in Spain, England, Germany, Italy, France, Turkey, America, Argentina, Brazil, each of them different and beautiful.
