Watching this video 3 years later and knowing now what our future held with soaring food and supply prices, is pretty surreal yet amazed at all your hard work. I’m glad you left this video up because it’s important we all remember what prices and inflation used to be like.

One more suggestion re dusting, buy some inexpensive shower curtains from doll or tree and drape them over your shelves. It will reduce the dust, at least on the top, plus it will provide some light filtration and temperature protection. I love your pantry.

I have shelving like that and after a few months that fiber board began to sag. I replaced it with 5/8 inch plywood and have not had any more issues with sagging, no matter how many jars of canned good I put on it.

Great job! I took an old chest of drawers, it has 4 drawers and all of my medical supplies are in those drawers in my pantry. Tape, bandages, splints, ear/eye/nose and mouth- kits like snake bite, trauma packs, and medical equipment to cut something open or stitch something up- stethoscope (you can get those kind of supplies at Tractor Supply). I have been gathering medical supplies for the last 20 years, so those drawers are tall and deep and hold a lot.

Great Video...Just a tip for you...You have a beautiful pantry, and want to suggest that you pick up some large bungee cords to go around the perimeter of each shelf. If there was ever the unfortunate event of an earthquake, you wouldn't lose as much of your stuff via falls. Also, you can put each jar in a brown paper bag to limit the exposure to light, and they will serve the dual purpose of being a light buffer from clanking glass. We found large bungee cords for the same type of shelving in our pantry at a store call Ollie's. I hope this was helpful.

Looks good. Some ideas that might help.
You could use 3/4" plywood with legs to make a bed deck & store buckets, #10 cans, TP / paper towels, Gamma lids, canned goods, etc under. What will fit will depend on the height you want the bed deck to be. The deck replaces a box spring & you use top mattress only. You can use thin wood or heavy cardboard with a pull rope to make a 'sled' to put things on to be able to pull out from under the bed easily. An old crib drop side works as well & let's some air under what you're storing. Short folding produce crates work well for canned goods also.
Wire shelves (container store metro style but lots of brands including Sam's club are much cheaper) on wheels (tall units or if you find carts you like you can use them with tall poles- that's what I did in my kitchen) can be kept between the current shelving units & pulled out when needed. Just remember to not overload when on wheels- the posts that connect the wheels to the posts don't tend to hold as much weight as rated. Excellent for empty jars, Thrive, paper goods, lids, 1st aid stuff, light bulbs/tape/freezer packs / all the other misc stuff in tubs, boxes or bins.

Be still my heart. :) I have a small but deep pantry in the kitchen. I could never find anything in it, so I moved most food into the spare bedroom closet on a wire shelf. And I put toaster, air fryer, oversized pots/pans etc. in the pantry. It works great! The "spare bedroom" had a queen bed and desk in it, and had to sidle between the two although there was a decent size space between bed and closet. I didn't like the room for crafting, and it seemed to have no purpose so I decided to turn the entire room into storage, which I badly needed. Moved the bed to another room, shuffle shuffle. I did the same as you have done! I'm still refining it but it is a fantastic use of this room. I buy the plastic shoe boxes at Dollar Tree and store/stack items in them (craft stuff, not food stuff.) Thanks for sharing. I sure am

Because of you, I also have a spare bedroom/craftsroom/pantry. I have those same shelves. I attached hinges and pegboard doors. Pegboard organizes crafts on the outside and food on the inside. It also reduces light and make the room look better for guests. I also attached bungee to my door and store 2 cases of paper towel on the door. It's not heavy for the door hinges but gave me back shelf space. My bed has 5 gal buckets and tubs under it. My favorite way to organize medical supplies is to use those 3x3 cube storage units. I stacked one on top of the other - that's 18CF of very organized medical supplies storage. Works GREAT and only takes up 3SF of floor space. and it's all out of sight. Love your vids thank you for sharing. I have to learn to make vids one day.

  • @cynthiaweathers6979

What a lot of people don't realize is that those floor joists aren't designed to handle all of that weight. If you have a basement, I advise you to get some floor Jack's under the floor in there to support all the weight and give the floor joists some help. The same if you have a crawl space.
When the joists start giving, the shelves will start leaning. People had the same problem when waterbeds became popular. In a townhouse, the waterbed came crashing through the livingroom ceiling. No one was hurt but the townhouse was ruined.

I guessed 120 jars of chicken, just before you told us the grand total of 112 jars. You've given me several good ideas... I like the idea of end caps; when you remove that door, you might have space to do another self there- maybe you can find three shelves in the right size to make 2 more can goods shelves. Amazing, Leisa!

Are you the gather spot in case of SHTF situation? We were for years so I felt I had to maintain some type of sleeping arrangement for many, many people. I have four or five bedrooms, but that wasn’t enough actual sleeping space. I decided the family’s could maybe each have one room. In addition I collected several air mattresses, so I would have enough actual sleeping space for the unmarried children and grandchildren. They could put their beds down each night and stack them up each morning to free up common spaces. You might consider getting a air mattress for your guest so you don’t need to keep a bed up inside your pantry space.

I use produce boxes up against an open spot behind the recliner..Side by side and stacked 7 high it holds nearly 200 jars.. Covered with a stadium blanket and a thin sheet of plywood it can be disguised as a trophy pedestal..The produce boxes will each hold 14 jars of product and give the quart jars about an inch of clearance from the box above so no real worries about individual jar stacking and minimal waste of free space...The filled boxes with product are a touch on the heavy side but because of qualities of construction the stacking is very stable so long as the filled jars are stacked on bottom and the empties on top.. or maybe in a storage facility waiting to be re-used

You have a beautiful Pantry it looks so organized and your canned goods look so beautiful. I love the convenience of the canned meat but boy do I wish it looked prettier... BUT that won't stop me from continuing to can meat for the sake of convenience and to free up freezer space and to just have it shelf stable. But I see why the stores have labels on canned meat! Anyways your place looks great. And your soup looks delicious. As for the fire extinguisher, I would recommend getting a full-size ABC fire extinguisher. After having a serious house fire last year I now know the importance of having a full size extinguisher on each floor of the house. I won't bore you with details but I will tell you that they are well worth the expense can save you and your family's life.

Your lucky those fractures didn’t trash your whole life, not just your summer!! You are so understated. I was just asking for a pantry tour on your Monday night live chat yesterday. So today I was checking out your older videos and saw this. So I am rewatching. I think I have already suggested a blow up bed for your guest, or a twin trundle day bed, since you use your pantry constantly, but only use your guest bed occasionally. Any shelves that have to be moved out of the way in order to pul out your trundle can be loaded with your TP and/or very light weight things, then they could be moved into the walk space between your shelves, or even moved into another room or hallway for the duration of the visit. For dusting, use old sheets or comforters from the thrift store and make dust covers. Keep your shelves covered. No dusting plus light control. Win/win. I really enjoy your channel. Been watching for about a year. You are always full of great ideas. I wonder about your life’s work. Engineer, maybe. Or city planner, or administration of some kind, your mind is so organized, I love it!

Be careful with your back! Maybe you can invest in a rolling kitchen cart and put at the end so you of the shelf. It would keep you from having to carry any heavy containers. Just an idea. Amazing Grocery Store! Lol! Y’all have done an excellent job! Wish you well with remodeling. Freezers are sooo organized. Do not press yourself to get so much done! I love your videos! You are the greatest, down to earth love you

If it were my pantry, I would take down the tp and use the shelf for heavier items like Filled Jars. You can put something to keep tp off the ground in the case of water damage, and stack the TP much lighter and wouldn't likely hurt anyone if fell over. Stack in a closet etc...

I use shop shelves too. I put a shorter set of shelves on the end of a taller set (or between two taller sets) to make a work table/counter. I can see how that might not work out logistically in your pantry, however it would be safer for your back if you didn't lift large heavy things from below your hips (speaking from experience here).
I've been walking my husband through stocking a pantry on a budget. His knee jerk reaction to stocking is buying canned foods 😑 I have to keep explaining to him the savings of home canning.
Thanks for the pantry tour. I like getting ideas from what other people put back.

Could you store some of your medical supplies under the guest bed? We have limited space as well and I'm using our guest bed to store our #10 cans that are for long-term emergency supplies.

Great pantry! I haven’t read all the comments so this may be a repetitive idea/suggestion but have you given thought to utilizing the under the bed space? I found I am able to store lots of seldom needed items or excessive back stock that I only pull out to restock shelves. I also have a large vanity in a bathroom that I can store lots of things in mainly toiletries and cleaning items.

What about a plain cheapish bookcase to go at the end of that one shelving unit? It can be where you store the non-heavy things, the Food saver, etc. etc. It's handy (it's where I keep most of my dehydrated products), and can give you some extra storage without taking up a ton of floor space.

We have the same: A spare bedroom off of the kitchen, formerly the master bedroom, turned into our pantry. I store our long-term food storage and our canners, other kitchen appliances in there as you do. It makes it so nice getting those out of the way!

I store my empty jars in the spaces that I removed them from. For instance, if I use a pint of green beans, I wash that jar, then put it back in the space I took it from full. :-) Love your pantry! We've also converted a spare bedroom into our pantry too. No sense having a space sit empty waiting for the couple visitors a year when it can be used for a good purpose. :-) Thanks for sharing! ~ Stephanie

We use the add a shelf wire racks for 1/2 and 1/4 pint jars. Make your own soap for liquid and laundry soap. For the cost of one jug of laundry soap you can make 10 gallons.

    • @tarabooartarmy3654
      @tarabooartarmy3654 5 років тому

The reason I don’t make laundry stuff is because, despite knowing it’s not good for us, my husband and I REALLY love our laundry to smell over-the-top fresh and clean. We even use those Unstopables scent beads to make them smell extra good. Can’t imagine being able to make homemade laundry stuff that smells as strong. I should get stuff to make laundry soap if I ever have to, but we just can’t bring ourselves to get away from our lovely scented stuff.

I think you’re pantry looks great! It takes a lot of time and work, but very much worth it. I’ve got a walk in pantry w shelf’s and one big rack and my hall closet that holds a lot, but they are a nightmare because I’ve been doing some heavy shopping stalking up stuff, have all kind of baking pots and pans and baker racks etc etc, I bake as a business out of my home and busy season is almost here so I’ve got a ton of work to do!!!! I’m you as far as people coming over, the bathroom is clean , the living room is tidy but most everyone that knows me knows I’ve got a baking working kitchen , grandkids over all the time, I’m not out to impress, just have a home where everyone can be comfy and enjoy good food and company, looking forward to you’re canning projects and Monday night live!!!!

If you turn that coke crate over and put it on top of the small jelly jars you could stack more of that same jelly on top of it maybe. I think a clear bin might be too weak to support the weight.

I know you don't have much wall space, however you could alway have a shelf over the windows, and the doors, to store things that just need a little space or for an appliance of some sort. Right now I only have 1 small chest freezer and it is packed. I am getting ready to remedy that however because yesterday we went to our farm to check on my bee hives and stopped at my storage shed. I brought home my pressure canner and my cold pack canner, just in case I do something that doesn't need to be pressurized. I'm going to start canning my very first MEAT products....in over 60 years of canning, I have never canned meat. It starts later this week! I'm excited!
