I just sold my 2005 530I with 400,000 miles on it to a buddy, he is still enjoying it.
I don't blame you. I am not a fan of bmw's at all. But they are very good income because they keep breaking down.
You're asking for trouble by not putting a light coat of oil on all the o-rings on the oil filter. Per BMW manual you're suppose to do this.
Nope oil gets in the filter first start up just another myth i never soak my oil filter no issues

I saw that 60k was the recommend mileage for spark plug why change it at 40k?

Depends on the manufacturer, some do it at 40k others at 60k, not every car is the same.
