I've been jamming this deck since I seen Callum post it 8-1, I think second entreat out of the SB is right and as he pointed out in his thread we need answers to planeswalkers; I've been running a split of Council's Judgement and Get Lost in the SB as WOS cleans up the leftover maps. thanks for game play subbed.
The card "Get Lost" seems like it would fit a lot better than Judgment as a planeswalker answer. Instant speed means that it plays better with Snappy and Wrath of the Skies can incidentally remove the Map tokens. Plus additional answers to Frog is always welcome.
Wow, love this vid! Deck seems solid, probably going to sleeve it up and try it out. But oh dear, I have been tooling with Duelist of the Mind momentarily. That card seems such a good one to have a home somewhere. Yes it dies to spot removal but imagine pre combat with all your mana available and some cantrips (looking at you Brainsurge…). Probably not the right deck to play it in, but he keeps me tooling around gheghe. Thanks for the vid!! Loved it!! Edited: I think this deck wil also have a problem with Carpet of Flowers..... (needs to be considered too...)
I think vs Carpet you try to handle the spells rather than the mana. Did you see BoshNRolls video a while back with duelist and that weird blue enchantment that pumps creatures based on card draw?
Great deck and fun video, thanks. 9:40 I'd rather board out a Force of Will than a Wrath of the Skies against Eldrazi (they even have Cavern of Souls). Or alternatively, board out Back to basics (we're on the draw) rather than Wrath of the Skies.
given that this deck has like 12 brainstorms if you count brainsurge, jace activation and snapcaster flashback, it seems like it's better equipped to flip tamiyo than other decks out there. and damn good at defending her, too.
Good call, at the very least seems like a good sideboard juke after they boarded out their removal. Though a case can certainly be made to maindeck it. Though I do dislike how good Taimyo is -- guess that one-mana planeswalkers are good.
@lightworker2956 I don't think you want Tamiyo to be your only creature, so I would go like 3 tamiyo 3 triumph. Triumph is pretty synergistic with Wrath of the skies.
For planeswalkers and other hard to interact items, I think a prismatic ending or two might be good, most of the stuff you'd want to hit is 1 or 2 cmc anyway.
The issue for that with me is Teferi and Narset. I know some people are splashing red for Ending and pyroblast which REALLY helps in that spot, although I do like the cleanliness of UW. I think it might have to be judgment in UW, but UWr might be the better list
I don't mind a couple of wastelands tbh, Big Kath is fine, but it's very similar to Entreat in a lot of ways and there's only so many win con spaces. It would be fine I'd imagine.
even back when top was around, temporal mastery was too clunky to play. But brainsurge is a gamechanger. There's a huge difference between 6 brainstorms and 10 brainstorms in the deck. Definitely worth a try now. Setting up entreat into temporal mastery to get the win seems sweet as hell
To be blunt, Time Walking just isn't that good in this deck. It's win-more with Angels / Jace, because if you untap with those already in play then you've won already. Plus, you only have 1 Entreat and 2 Jace in the first place, which isn't a lot. And other than that, Time Walk just says "untap your lands and put one more land into play". That's doesn't actually do a lot (note you can't Temporal Mastery on turn 2, so at best you go from 3 => 5 lands which isn't that exciting). Other than the win-more circumstances that we described, you have no planeswalkers or creatures or "do this every turn" effects to abuse time walks. Meanwhile Temporal Mastery adds significant clunk to the deck. I guess you could build a 4x Temporal Mastery deck but it would look wildly different from this one (and probably wouldn't be as good tbh) -- it would have to be able to actually use the additional turns for more benefit than just "gain an extra land drop and that's it"
What do energy counters do in this deck? Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't peek be a better one card draw than tune the narrative in this shell? At least it gives you information while also activating a possible miracle
This deck is really clean, but I think you're a bit too twitchy in your threat assessment. Like. I've seen you spend a snapcaster plow to answer a 3/3, when you have a 4/4 vig in play and a Jace on board. Or countering stuff like a chrome mox when you're already winning on board. Slow your threat assessment down some. Good work.
I felt so powerful with so much card advantage that I could do it all, which may not have been the case. I tend to have a lot more experience with tempo/combo decks rather than control like this, so the threat assessment is a bit different and I sometimes might overcompensate a touch
Ah yes, because for a deck to be named after something, that “something” has to comprise (insert % here) or more of the deck! Definitely not that the play patterns of the deck are simply built around said cards or mechanic, nope. That would be silly!
I think adding more miracle cards to the deck would just make it worse overall (other than maybe one more Entreat in the main). So if you refuse to call this MIracles, then nothing is Miracles (aside from a worse version of this deck).
Modern is a very different formats so I couldn't comment. The reason it's working here is that Legacy is becoming quite creature heavy so having a classic UW control deck to smash things up is valid right now. Also Wrath of the Skies is very strong in legacy, whereas I imagine it's not as good in other formats.
Legacy decks basically aren't used to facing decks with anywhere near 6x Wrath -- the archetypical Legacy deck is a deck that casts 2-3 creatures on the first few turns and then tries to back that up with Daze, and that's a laughably bad plan against Terminus. Plus Wrath of the Skies is often backbreaking in Legacy, blowing up Chalices and Chrome Mox and Mox Diamond. Due to the recent power creep, the power difference between legacy and modern isn't actually that big. So a well-positioned modern deck can do well in Legacy.
You have become my favorite MTG channel. I love how you narrate all your decisions. Keep up the great videos!
100%
Also plays mostly legit decks
@@GiantBenA "mostly" doing some heavy lifting there haha. I try to mix it up a bit :P
Very kind of you to say
Love a control mage. Love beating on the frog & eldrazi!
This decklist is so clean, I love it, I didn't see full video yet and I'm hoping for a good result.

Such a dope deck. Brainsurge is the real deal

Tamiyo is pretty tasty for sure

@@crucible_of_words galvanic discharge kills planes walkers and gives you more energy for wrath of the skies. I think the solution is to add red.
@@crucible_of_words It's possible to have the mountain in the sideboard if you really want to keep the mana base "clean".
Brainsurge art kinda reminds me of Cryptic Command's art.
Eightstorm, huh?
More like big brain 😂
Its surprising that the miracle video is just over an hour long😅
Miraculous even ;)
What do you think about adding Wastelands in this list? Or Triumph of Saint Katherine?

Why no Triumph? Seems like a good wincon for this deck
dies to spot removal
And dies to own Terminus
Surprised there's no miracles time walk in the list
Just remembered the cards name- temporal mastery

Tune the Narrative gives you energy so you can do a bit Wrath of the Skies early on.
I miss seeing experts play top but I don't want them to unban it because of every other fool (including myself).
Top is not a slow card. People over think every little thing and waste time. Should absolutely be unbanned, nobody even plays paper magic anymore.

Love it, but looks hopelessly underpowered. Watching now and hope to be proven wrong!
Hm, "Miracles" where your Miracles are *checks notes* two Angels, three Terminus, and that's it
The traditional miracles list from back in the day ran 5-7 Miracle cards in the 75, so it's pretty close to the good old days on that front.
