- Shaft - Music from the Soundtrack, composed and performed by Isaac Hayes. Of the many wonderful blaxpoitation soundtracks to emerge during the early '70s, Shaft certainly deserves mention as not only one of the most lasting but also one of the most successful. Isaac Hayes was undoubtedly one of the era's most accomplished soul artists, and with 'Theme from Shaft,' he delivered an anthem just as ambitious and revered as the film itself, a song that has only grown more treasured over the years, after having been an enormously popular hit at the time of its release. Shaft still remains a powerful record; one of Hayes' pinnacle moments for sure.

RIP Isaac Hayes & Richard Roundtree. SHAFT! You're damn right!
😥😥😥😥
I,am 79 and still listening this music!
In 2021, you still are bobbing your head to this iconic song.
Sooo Trueee🏆🥇☻
My head is bobbin', my feets be tappin', and I got my boogie down overbite wuhkin'!
How could you not be bobbin 😎😎
March 2022, baby!
Nah,still bobbing my head to this iconic song in 2024!!😂
I remember Quincy Jones saying they didn't want to give Issac the Oscar because he sang hummed the soundtrack instead of sitting down and writing notes on paper. But he and others told by the Academy what difference did it make how it was manifested, it still came out of his mind, so technically he wrote it. The Man was trying to keep a brother down.
Daaammmn Right!! Quicy Jones is a big time HATER...of everybody!!! ...
That's pretty lowdown of Him for sure!
@@arienfox Quincy Jones fought for him. He was one of the reasons they gave it to Ike. When I reread my post, I gave the impression Q was hating in Ike and that wasn't the case. Q fought the powers that be for Ike. I'm sorry to give the wrong impression.
@@jrynds It's cool.

Dude! This is Isaac Hayes.
I was born in 1976, my great uncles would play this and I would go nuts! Stax Records, Philadelphia International Records, SOLAR Records, and that Minneapolis Sound are my favorite sounds. 💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
Magnifique...ah les années 70...une merveille ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am 57 so I remember This song and movie when I was 9 was a fan then and still am RIP MR.HAYES LOVE 💘 ❤ AND MUCH RESPECT
One of the best soundtracks ever
I am a kid of the 1950's. I am currently 73 years old and like others I remember this cartoon having a profound effect of sadness on me that lasted a few days. It was in black and white when I saw it which was probably 1956 . Through the years I wondered about this cartoon and it popped up in my head to Wiki THE LEGEND OF JOHN HENRY today. And oh boy! A swell of Good Feeling overcame me as I viewed this video. What made me sad as a kid made me happy today as I read comments that this film impacted others in the same manner that it impacted me.
Me as well. Deeply affecting.
The motion picture Sound Tracks of Shaft by Isaac Hayes and Superfly by Curtis Mayfield are monuments to the creative genius of Black Musicians.
Totally agree.
You Speak TRUTH SIR✌💯👍♥️
Both Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield are truly musical geniuses with their soundtracks of Shaft in 1971 and Superfly in 1972. Both soundtracks were platinum sellers as well!!!
Rest in Heaven, Kings!
Without a doubt.
Quintessential '70s Jazz/R&B Funk Classic music from a great composer. Will not see this again soon...
Or maybe never agaim Richard😥
Unfortunately never again.
you can see (or hear) where MJ + Quincy got their influence for all his major production works (Thriller, BAD, History etc)
How Could We Ask for Better? Mr. Ernest Tidyman who wrote the series of Shaft novels, said that Isaac deserved the Oscar for his composition. I conveyed this to him (Mr. Hayes) personally. . Such a brilliant person: Mr. Isaac Hayes. And may I mention? Ms. Chris Clark, Mr Tidyman's widow. was there with me. Such a gracious moment.
Great Soundtrack!
To me this was Isaac Hayes FINEST performance hands down !! Every time I hear this song it takes me back to October of '71, I was a young 13yr old adolescent experiencing my first year of Jr Hi school. As usual during that time I was wrapped up in my favorite sport, Baseball. It was the October fall classic, the world series. It was the the defending world champs the Baltimore Orioles vs the Pittsburgh Pirates. The heavily favorite Orioles were a CONFIDENT team with a pitching staff that produced four 20 game winners and to this day, NO team has since been ABLE to achieve. The series went the full 7 games, there wasn't a dull moment through out the entire series. "Mr Humanitarian" Roberto Clemente put on a CLINIC show casing his skills on how the game was to be played...... hitting, throwing, running the bases catching etc.... Also, the nation would witness for the first time a series game being played at night, I WATCHED that very game on a black & white TV, it was game 4 at Three Rivers Stadium. Roberto Clemente would help his team go on to defeat the Orioles and be named the MVP, in addition, the Pirates had a young rookie relief picture named Bruce Kison from Pasco WA who performed well when he was called on to help keep the Orioles in check.
My #1 favorite soundtrack of all time from 1971 written, produced,& performed by the late Black Moses Isacc Hayes
This song brings back my days in high school when the pep band played this and I can still see the cheerleaders' routine even 50 years later!
My high school band covered the theme song perfectly during our Spring Concert finale! Carl Stone was the awesome director, Lorenzo Veal absolutely killed the guitar solo! I’ll never forget it.
This is always my opening on my playlist everyday for work and I’m 33
Bro Whaaaat? I love getting ready to this with it booming, girl still sleep, throw in that coat shuffle the collar a bit...
That's the truth how this song is still taking your breath away a true classic.
Loved the movie and soundtrack, they don’t make music like this anymore!
Right on Bro.
I'm with you on that W. This is an outstanding movie and soundtrack. Go 70's. Great time to be alive!
Two of the greats! This music is timeless.

The introduction: Best 2 minutes and 43 seconds of recorded sound.
Nine years old, living on Howard Street, the Northern edge of Chicago. My fro is enormous. My mom gives me a $10 dollar bill to get her a pack of cigarettes. A pack cost something like $1.50 or something, and, yeah, your kid could buy them for you. Problem was, there was a record store on the way, and the radio had been playing the Theme to Shaft, and I needed that double album. It cost $7+ dollars. Come back home and quickly pass my mom her cigarettes and like $1.20 in change from her ten, and hurry to my room with a big flat paper bag under my jacket.
Needless to say, I am busted about a minute later putting my new LP on the player and told I better return it and get the rest of her change back.
After a devastating emotional breakdown, I get to keep it as my advance Christmas present. It was October. 1971.
By Christmas I had memorized and analyzed the entire arrangement of the opening track and could mimic each part. Best Christmas present I ever got.
No autotune or synthesizers, real musicianship.

Love this music. I was a kiddo back then.
Today in the 21th century we ain't got nobody or allies. In some cases we're attacking each other for the obvious reasons. Our constriction has been broken down and we don't have anyone who wants to repair it.

When you about to get into a fight play this song loud to get you hyped!
The recent death of Richard Roundtree at the fairly ripe old age of eighty-one from pancreatic cancer occurred precisely thirty-seven years after the original release of the 1986 Steve Miner film 'Soul Man.' As a matter of fact, a snippet of the late ISSAC HAYES' 'Theme from Shaft' is featured in a scene from 'Soul Man.'
