"Defense first, escape second"
master
Roger won that mental war. All the rest was consequence. It is incredible, that he made someone, like Buchecha look like a rookie. And make no mistake, I'm a big fan of Buchecha as well. Big respect for both legends.
I disagree: Roger won the *skill* war, and all of the rest was consequence :P
The way Roger speak gives me the same vibe as Ayrton Senna when he was talking about F1 (Not just because he's Brazilian just like Senna)
Roger Gracie is a BEAUTIFUL athlete and human being. Wonderful interview even for someone relatively new to Jujitsu.
Roger Gracie has WISOM as well to share with everybody! Wishing love and happiness to him!
Thank you both!💜
So amazing and beautiful. Without his explanation to a mere mortal this would have been boring. But with his detailed talk, you feel and see every second of art in this fight.
This is deeper than chess analysis lol
What a legend, Roger Gracie is an amazing person, wise, humble, and has left his mark on BJJ and given so much to the sport.
Such a privilege to have these conversations. They make us all better.
I want to see him against Steven Seagal.
I feel like I just got a private lesson from Roger
YES! This right here. Underrated comment.
Lex, I know nothing in the real world about bjj but I'm a huge fan of it and have favorite matches I watch over and over. This one the most. I have always wondered how dannaher would explain the ending sequence which I find so brilliant but don't know why. I never dreamed we'd get to hear the master himself break it down. I so admire your slow curious pace and each question you asked. And so well explained that someone like me can grasp every concept. I have a martial arts and wrestling background so that does help, but consider this analogy: it's like a masterpiece in art ( I'm a professional artist by the way). Anyone in the world can appreciate its beauty but they don't know why. A professional or the artist themselves can point out exactly how they produced such and techniques they used. Like a magician showing you a trick then showing you how they did it. Bravo. That was special, and any time I feel like I can't make it, I go watch Roger take care of business! From the moment he grabs buchechas belt, it's over.
If you love it so much why dont you train? You should start!
👏👏 great comment
Hey man, if you are able, you should try it!
He is so chilled haha what a legend
Great segment hearing Roger’s perspective
Roger your a legend and a very handsome man I love watching your fights 👌👏😍
Quote from an 11th century monk on humility: “Humility is true knowledge of oneself as one is”. Roger really embodies this when he states, plainly and without malice, that he knew going in that his jiujitsu is technically superior to Buchechas. It would be fake humility and a lie if he were to have said otherwise. He’s so badass without acting like a badass.
Like the analysation in the moment of your opponent
its amazing that Lex is a black belt
GOAT so far
Fascinating ❤
Balance with the ego is so hard👀2nd
Roger smiles just like Tony Soprano
THIS IS FUCKEN ABSOLUTE GOLD !!!! I feel like I jus gota lesson from Roger Gracie!!!
Goat
roger is goat after Ricardo Arona
I love to watch you on the mat oooooooh ❤❤
Did Roger get a hair transplant?......nice
The best interview ever
amazing
"pressure hurts, it's uncomfortable" talking about choking over the chin....all I know is I for sure tap when someone is crushing my chin because it friggin hurts haha
When a white belt gets his first tap and breaks down what happened to a friend that doesn't train
how is the man in the white jumper the same as the man in the white gi lmao
Steven Seagal taught him that choke. I was there.
Please keep in mind, that Buchecha was right after worlds, maybe that's why his movements were way slower than usually. Why no one put this fact in the equation???
Analytical and methodical mastering the Gracie basics made him the best.
"Would you tap to a choke on your chin?" Yes, if you're name is conor mcgreggor
Who gave Lex his black belt?
Renato Laranja
eddie bravo vs royler gracie metamoris was awsome
why doesn't he have cauliflower ears?:)))
Cause he’s the greatest haha
Because of their technique. Look at Rorion, Rickson, Royce, Renzo and etc. They have no cauliflower ear.
@@josemartin1727 thats very interesting my trainer is gregor gracie he has them but i thibk its from mma
I thought the fluid can be drained immediately after the swelling to prevent it from being permanent.
First
I wouldn’t be great at Jiu Jitsu for 2 reasons:
1) I’m not very strong
2) I don’t like to have my face anywhere near another man’s body
Those 2 are probably the same reasons you would get your ass whooped in any real life confrontation

Only a Gracie, will use the excuse of being the smaller and weaker player, even when he comes in at 6'4" and 220 lb. lol
He was smaller and weaker though. Buchecha is taller and was over 240 lbs. And Roger isn't a tool like the majority of the other family members. He's a humble, respectful dude.
@@billbrasky7885 Gracie 6'4" Buchecha , maybe- 6'3" maybe...at the end of the match, Gracie, raises Buchecha's arm. freeze frame it there and all will become clear. Also and most importantly. No 6'4" lb. 220 Lb, man has any right, ever saying, hes the smaller and weaker opponent. How many smaller players did Roger, beat, through out his career? IMHO.
How is that an excuse? It would be an excuse if he won. All he's saying is he's proportionally strong for HIS size, which is big, but not extraordinary strong. Seems pretty reasonable.
I am a guy who asks questions a lot to learn so I like lex for that reason but he asks some questions that are grappling 101... isn't he a black belt? Doesn't seem like he has advanced knowledge of the sport.
Lex is a scientist yet has to have kilograms converted to pounds for him. As in when Roger has to tell him how much Buchecha weighed!!! Something doesn't make sense here. Scientists study solely in the metric system. How could this be? It's like an economist not understanding interest. Someone better check Lex Santos.
