    Jeri Ryan deserves a SERIOUS award as do her writers. Seven was a beloved character on Voyager....and they KILLED it, totally changed the character in the guise of character development. Jeri played a version of Seven nobody had ever seen, and not only kept the fans from rioting over it, but made them love the character all over again. That's amazing talent.

      That was exactly my problem - it wasn't the scientist Seven that we knew - she was a complete stranger ticking a box. Not bad no, but not Seven.

      @@JohnnyWednesday And yet it made PERFECT sense, on Voyager Seven was figuring out how to be Human again, not used to emotions, hanging onto pure Borg logic and coldness, and slowly integrating emotions into her life. After 20 plus years, it stands to reason she is now more Human than Borg in her emotional status. I think it was a good bit of writing logic, but Jeri pulling it off? She's a HIGHLY under rated and under used actress.

      @@IMDARKFIRE007 However, TV shows are judged on entertainment value. Her old character had a quirky robotic personality, which made her appear very unique and at times very funny. With her new character, you're left with her former self. it's probably time to stop making new Star Trek. It's run its course and we should celebrate its past brilliance, rather than trying to recreate the old magic. Very similar to a midlife crisis.

    For all the Terry Matalas fans, the YT channel "The Shuttlepod Show" has a really nice interview of him. He is really quite humble, especially when Dom mentions that he used to get coffee for Braga. They actually have a whole library of long interviews with big-hitters like Berman, Braga, Ira, as well as fan fav actors (e.g., Dorn, Frakes, Gates, Tim, Robinson, Combs) & major crew members (e.g., Zimmerman, Okudas, Merri D). Yet they only have 62.5K subscribers and have stopped interviewing recently. So compared to TrekCulture's 299K subscribers, I feel like a lot of Trekkies just haven't found them and suspect they might be short of subscriber-based revenue to keep going despite all their excellent work.
    Don't worry TrekCulture, I have also mentioned your channel on their channel. I feel like all Trekkies should know where all the good Trek channels are. 😁😇

    It's time for something new, not just new ship, new crew but an entirely new concept, some innovation.
    We already got the classic *follow the ship and command crew around* show with SNW.
    We need something like DS9 or Discovery where we get something different, compared to what we have now. Maybe even with the focus not being on Starfleet, there're so many stories to tell in the Star Trek universe that it would be such a big missed opportunity only doing the same concept again and again and again.

    • @Kyronea
      @Kyronea Місяць тому +2

      Yes, thank you. And unlike Discovery, let's not place it in an era of time where we already know what's happening and have it be connected to legacy stuff. Go for the future. Even with Discovery in the 32nd century and Picard ending at the beginning of the 25th, there's a good seven centuries worth of time to explore. Plenty of ways to do something completely new.
      Hell even if we did set it in something like the Lost Era or in a previously shown era, we could still do entirely new stories so long as they're separate and have little relation to other stories happening at the same time.

    We need Legacy! We need Terry to bring the same magic he did with Picard season 3. So I would say make him Legacy show runner and if he wants, director.
    Example of an Easter egg, Admiral Crusher grants Voyagers EMH a commission of Captain as she thinks he's wasting his talents just being a standard doctor. He needs a ship to transport medical teams and supply's to a colony x medical issue on a mass scale. Seven offers the use of the Enterprise. She informs him she volunteered, if anything to see her old friend again.
    Q could bring back Captain shaw and he's made Captain of Engineering, holding a title we only ever saw Scotty hold.
    May be even Kate Mulgrew come back as Janeway. Perhaps Seven defers to her expiriance and transfers command to her post temp on a mission of vital importance.

    They dropped the ball HARD by killing off Shaw. I get what they were going for and how it fit into their story.. But it was just lazy, cliche, and ultimately akin to shooting yourself in the foot considering how much he elevated all the scenes he was in. Whatever excuse they have to 'bring him back' is... god I'm so fucking exhausted.
    Choices like that in S3 (including undercutting Q's death, throwing the Titan-A and her lineage under the bus, shoehorned references purely for the sake of nostalgia, etc) are what make me feel like, for every great thing in S3, there's some irritating pebble in my shoe that makes me fine with them just moving on. As much as I enjoyed S3, chunks of it have not aged well. Not saying it CAN'T be wonderful, I'm just not sure what I want from this current stable of shows anymore.
    Really, I'm just finding Lower Decks (an animated comedy) and Prodigy (with S1 being mostly Trek adjacent) to be the most overall satisfying. Which is weird considering they were the riskiest ones I was least optimistic about going in. :P

    While there shouldn't be TOO much of the people from Picard (except those who are now the main characters) it would also be a nice way to tie up a few loose threads and bring back some characters that may not have gotten a fair shake in earlier Picard seasons.
    It would probably make Sir Patrick happy to see Picard now peacefully in retirement in his Vinyard. He could be with someone. Laris maybe, (with Beverly being a "close-friend / family member" but not necessarily romantic partner, though they are coparenting Jack.
    Data, with his newfound emotion and being as close to human as he's ever been, could be introduced to Soji by Picard, and their backstory explained. It's very much a man meeting a child he didn't know he had, but in this case, it was kind of taken from him without his permission. But they could bond and become close family members. He can also finally FEEL the grief for Lal, as he tells Soji about her long-lost sister, who lives in Data's brain. And this would reintroduce Soji, NOT as a crew member, but she is a scientist and while maybe somewhat immature, could have grown up a bit more by then, and become a regular guest of some kind.
    Just sooo sad that they killed off Hugh. He could have had a great part to play. Just had to say it.
    Kestra was barely mentioned in Picard Season 3. We could see what she's up to (and have Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis have a brief guest spot). Not sure if she'd be up for Starfleet Academy, or maybe be more into being a writer (as a kind of tribute to her late brother) or maybe botanist. She could even serve on the Starship as a civilian, as Keiko did in TNG, or as a guest.
    And maybe some sort of redemption for the often-hated Alexander Rozhenko. Last we saw of him was in DS9, but we could see what he's become. Worf was kind of a neglectful father, but Alexander also had immensely loving grandparents in Russia. Would love to see all of that reflected in the man he became. Another guest spot.

    The Doctor of Voyager demonstrated how holograms can be vital in certain situations. With his background, the character of Liam Shaw as Emergency Engineering Hologram could - through various narrative circumstances - become a permanent fixture as a part of the crew of the Enterprise in Legacy.

    Sean, I can't agree with you on this. These are characters who are too important and have wide-ranging consequences that mess up the entire universe and are not responsible for cleaning up after themselves. The early 24th century has Orions, Pakleds, Borg, Ferengi, Romulans, and Klingons coming into the Federation. It has a giant power vacuum. It has a recently overturned Synth Ban (and likely renewed Augments Rights movement). It has a dead Q (and a certain admiral's omnipotent godson who's going to learn about grief for the first time). It has a bunch of almost undetectable changelings running amok. It has a massive tragedy that sullied an important holiday. It has new technologies, including Soong-type golems. It has easy and fast access to the Delta Quadrant. It has two extremely readily available cures for assimilation (meaning the aforementioned admiral may be a war criminal). Star Trek is supposed to examine society through sci-fi allegories; Legacy wouldn't be that, it would just be Great Man Theory but in space. We need a series that isn't about important, powerful people running about the universe being involved in every quadrant-defining historical moment possible. We need a series that focuses on a crew that actually gets to do the mission of the week sci-fi allegory stories and the beginning of the 24th century is full of possibilities for it. I want to see the consequences of all the changes. I want to see the struggles of helping Ferenginar adapt to communism. I want to see an episode where Cetacean Ops is called into question because of the glaring inequeties aquatics face on non-aquatic ships (and have it all be an interesting examination of the failures of DEI). I want to see what happens when a completely unremarkable changeling gets caught "pretending" to be a crew member and reveals that they've been being that person for years, including their entire time at the Academy. Legacy characters are too close to their own actions to criticise the consequences of them in a way that matters. The other problem is that Legacy would be too big to fail. They wouldn't be able to take massive risks because of how expensive it would be. We need a show that's willing and able to piss people off with its politics.

(Which is sorely needed; we have not had an ST film in quite awhile.) Or on the small screen? While a TV series could fill up so many story arcs that were never finished. (As listed in this video.) I think a full-screen film would be fantastic.

    I liked "Picard" but I kind of understand why so many people were disappointed in it. It's great to see Patrick Stewart and the gang back together again, but the show doesn't look, sound or feel anything like the original show that we al fell in love with. Same goes for "Discovery". There's a disconnect that happens because it doesn't match what we're used to. "Discovery" takes place decades before the original series but it looks 50 times more advanced and it's hard to fathom how that could be. I will also admit that I'm a little tired of the corporate need to continually redesign the Klingons for some reason. "Enterprise" already fixed that gaff between the TOS Klingons and the Next Gen ones, but then "Discovery" had to screw it all up again by creating _their own_ version. Anyway, maybe this is just what happens when almost no one from the original series is involved with the new ones. :(

      Totally agree. They need to put their egos and ambitions in check and stop fixing things that aren't broken just to avoid licensing fees or paying old crew to do make-up. Westmore is probably out of their budget, but can't see why they don't try to reproduce something close. Instead they write S1 DISCO like a horror show. TBH, I could have watched 50 seasons of TNG if they didn't close that open screenplay submission thing due to lawsuits. They need to bring that back, structure it legally to protect themselves, and get a real Trekkie to make executive decisions that are consistent with canon. Canon is a blessing; use it instead of going out of your way to pretend like you can do better than this tried and true formula that the fans are all expecting. Bring back the lights on the bridge, be timeline appropriate, act like Starfleet officers, no crew conflicts, give the crew some character development and decent hobbies, bring in some new aliens if you want to be creative (they can leave if the ratings show we don't like them rather than having to live a whole season with bad decisions), have some plot consistency (don't have Q slap Picard for no reason then end of the season by telling him he was a favorite, b please), have some courage to drop unpopular characters (Allison Pill is a great actress but her homicidal nutjob character showed no traits which would led us to believe that she nor anyone but a supercorporal being would be able to tame the Borg Queen), stop wasting money on all these creepy special effects to scare us into the emotions that you can't write, bring back Starfleet professionalism, bring back good dialogue, decent plots, intrigue. Hate this colloquial speech, like spending money to watch normal people yap about nothing.

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh Місяць тому

      the Federation gave Kirk and Picard flagship status as Starfleet is still an exploration and diplomatic fleet. hence the Enterprise captains are chief diplomats rather than military commanders (despite functioning as both). So while Kirk and Picard hold the rank of Captain, their authority to speak for the Federation is special. The Admirals in ST don't have their own ship, they simply commandeer other vessels for their own operations. Even those vessels have captains of their own. Admirals are also assigned sectors or fleets to watch over, so they don't necessarily sit on ships with crews answering to them. First Contact had an Admiral's ship destroyed which resulted in Picard taking over, but he was late to the battle and faced no resistance from the other ships when he gave commands to fire at the cube.
      Similarly the Defiant was the flagship of the combined alliance fleet, even if Vice Admiral Ross was on another ship technically commanding Sisko.
      Now the Klingons and Romulans have their own flagships, but they tend to be the personal ship of the supreme commander, which represents their government. Martok notably commands a Bird of Prey, a smaller ship than Gowron's Bortas.

That all being said I doubt that the Enterprise G is the flagship and it's unlikely that Seven would be given such a role so soon after being promoted to Captain. Quite honestly I think if Legacy gets made that she will eventually end up an Admiral and Jack will end up as the Captain of the Enterprise G following his fathers footsteps.

    I think the no. 1 reason is not that clear-cut. Thinking back, the sets for season 2 & 3 of Picard were last used in early 2022. I only know that they preserved the reconstructed D bridge to some extent, but I haven‘t heard similar stuff of the other sets. Hope they have been somewhere stored instead of just torn down. The other aspect is the logistics, Picard was the only current Star Trek production that was LA-based, Disco, SNW and Section 31 are all Vancouver-based, so I would assume either they restart their LA-based production (which hasn‘t been used in 2 years by now) or everything has to relocate to Vancouver as well and they would be sharing production facilities with those sets as well and would somehow rotate between SNW, Starfleet Academy and an eventual third property (I.e. either Long Trek or a third live-action show). Sounds like lots of logistical headaches unfortunately.

    The Romulan story arc has always been fascinating. I like to imagine that after the destruction of Romulus, a number of Romulan admirals and generals began to seize power for themselves with whatever military assets they had under their command at the time. This could lead to dozens of Romulan warlords, each waging war against each other but also against others like the Federation, Klingon Empire, and more. There could be a story about one warlord trying to claim the mantle of Emperor (which seems to have been abandoned by the old Romulan Empire as their head of state was a Praetor).
    Imagine Game of Thrones meets Shogun meets Star Trek lmao.

      seems the Tal Shiar gathered all the Romulans who wanted to fight and became the antagonists of season one of Picard. The Romulans ,while not prone to coups and infighting (see Shinzon) are generally united in purpose, so shattering into small fiefs might not be realistic. What could be interesting is the final reunification with the Vulcans, which was the dream of Spock. Ruined in the Kelvin verse but very possible in the main universe.
      Like the Klingons, the Romulans seemed to have abandoned the idea of having an Emperor but kept the empire conceit. Unlike the Klingons however the Romulans don't seem to have any role for an Emperor at all, and don't need one at all. They are a republic with an oligarch at the top.

Personally I'd love to see it happen, but hopefully HOW Jim will be brought back will be done in a logical way consistent with what Starfleet's tech can feasibly do and without violating the Federation's ban on genetic engineering. Hopefully, God Willing it happens, the story will be well written that is true to his character, and hopefully, an episode where Capt. Kirk can indeed make a difference.
    But, as Mr. Ferrick said, the show mustn't be all about Easter Egg cameos: if Jim Kirk or other characters do show up, they should be involved in a major way in the episode they are seen.

    Strange New World's was always in the plan. Our letter campaign was unnecessary, and a manipulation of the studio to make us think their " listening" or doing us a favour. Has anyone signed a petition for Academy? Prodigy WAS necessary.

    Trek history to be readdressed whether canon or not. Some stories haven't had a proper chance ending left out in the darkness of space and character-based stories with plenty of unfinished plots are not closed. But most all missing characters from the roster of stories with the history behind them some just vanished from Star Trek NG old and new face or variants of episodes that later crossover to DS9, and Voyager characters with holes in their stories of what eventually became of them. Legacy and other sources of stories could have a massive reveal if some characters return in a cameo way even if a few do appear. Like the idea of Legacies in Trek just wondering if there's a mention in Below Deck ACR in Legacy or a face from the distance past reappearing like from the original Star Trek appearing on Legacy ( Flint) a strange character who is immortal or was before kirk and grew change that or so was believed? Flint could have a reason to reappear as it was never answered where came from, the original thought was Earth he did live there but a curious question to his past could be connected to a time-travelling individual who appeared in NG?

    The majrity of the reasons listed are canon, lore, and fanservice related. That's not something to greenlight a show over. And there being a ticking timer on this is even less of a reason to greenlight it, there's no point in rushing this series into production when it could end up being the final appearance for so many of these older characters. Rushing the show out and seeing that these characters were not handled with the proper care and attention would be dertimental to the whole franchise.
    We've already seen how the Mandalorian went from a show with a very clearly defined premise and tone in Season 1, to a cameo/legacy character episode every other week in season 2, to one of those characters every week in season 3, and that show has hurt the Star Wars brand because of it.
    Star Trek has always been about "boldly going where no one has gone before", and this series is just going back to where we've already been.

    I think Prodigy could do a crossover with Legacy, with Janeway linking the two. We had Walter Koenig perform a voiceover in Picard; why not something potentially similar for the more non-humanoid characters (Murf, Rok?) or actually get to see Jankom on-screen since Tellarites have several live-action appearances? With the level of CGI now, Zero could easily be animated in their floating suit. As for Gwyn or Dal, Gwyn could be translated more easily. This would be the most logical, since both series hail from Voyager ancestry with Seven as captain.

    It would be an Enterprise led by "misfits" not saying Seven is one but she's definitely not your typical straight cut starfleet officer. She could be even more brash than Kirk. I agree with most of your points but I think we should keep cameos and easter eggs to a minimum. As for a lover of starships, I've actually seen "enough" of them in Picard S3 that I know they are out there. They have jobs to do :) Has more impact when some other ship shows up from time to time. Anyway I think Legacy has enough merit to go on themselves, they just need good writers.

    There's something Hollywood just doesn't seem to get or is slowly just coming to understand. People want to see their favorite stories continue, not be rebooted, not be swapped out for a different more diverse character, They want to see the same actors continue their legacies. They want to be reminded of how they felt the first time they watched them on the screen. Seeing Seven come back in all her glory, man it just felt like such a gift to see her story continue. Lean into the nostalgia Paramount, it will be worth it.

      Actually, people want something new. People like endings. That’s why after avengers endgame, most people pretty much stopped watching Marvel. Because it ended the story for them. That’s why after Godfather two and even three, people decided that was the end and they didn’t want anymore. That’s why everything has to end to have a value. If it goes on for infinity, it becomes water down unless important. Things have to stop. No more continuations

    While the decision making behind Star Trek over the last few years has not exactly been uniformly great, I think they are smart enough to realize that it would indeed be logical to make Star Trek: Legacy. However, I think there are issues on the business side of things that may prevent or at least delay such a thing. Issues relating to the uncertainty within Paramount about their future, as there are all sorts of rumors swirling about Paramount possibly being bought, or of just the Star Trek property being sold to another studio, or of Paramount Plus merging with another streaming service, or that Alex Kurtzman may be looking to exit Star Trek. Until there's some more clarity on these potential behind the scenes things, I wouldn't expect any sort of announcement about Star Trek: Legacy. I just hope they get their shit together before too much time passes, and it's too late to make it happen.

  • @dammitspock
    @dammitspock Місяць тому

    So many characters could return from all of Trek, while these actors are willing & healthy enough to return. However Kurtzmans ego won't allow it. Funny how Picard season 3 hit the top ten streaming shows several times & won numerous awards. We were incredibly lucky to get Terry Matalas & his take on Trek. Cbs should've jumped on the hype with Legacy, but it's not the way Kurtzman wants his vision of Trek to go.

    • @trekon2023
      @trekon2023 Місяць тому

      Yeah, I think it was the fan complaints that brought Picard into existence. Then they shit all over the fans when they wrote S1 which treated our Capt like shit (had him talked down to by Admirals and Starfleet staff like he didn't save the Alpha quadrant many times over and for some reason deliberately create a running scene with a 20-something just to show how old he is, like he can't be a badass coordinating / calling the shots from a desk as a General, handler, or Charlie of Charlie's Angels). They tried desperately and obviously tried to wean us off our favorite characters like crap (Seven included) which were hand-wrapped to them as gifts in this franchise. They tried to cut costs but really the costs that need to be cut are all the showrunners and writers who don't know crap about Trek. They even did a highlight where they mooned over how they saved costs by getting a really expensive AR wall but it's incredibly limiting and you can tell every time they use it because they can only shoot in one direction!!! The savings!

    Let do Star Trek Continuum. A quantum leap style trek centered around the Q as they travel back and forth in time to major historic events in both the real world and trek history. The Bell Riots from DS9, the separation of the Romulans and Vulcans. Titanic, world wars, and more.

    • @jasonwalker9471
      @jasonwalker9471 Місяць тому

      That's sort of what Discovery was planned to be, originally. An anthology show, with a different cast and time period every season. (Note how we didn't get introduced to the crew in season 1, because they were irrelevant and wouldn't be around very long.) It's very expensive to do that though, which is one of the reasons that idea was canned. Having to build new sets, create all new 3D models and animations, create new detailed makeup regimes for foreground characters (background characters are much easier)... the list goes on and on. Star Trek is a very hard show to do an anthology series about, unless you make it a cartoon.
      And even then... on Lower Decks it took them until season 2 to get a proper model of the Cerritos itself, with both the model and the textures getting revamped. Never mind the other ships. The Pakled ships in season one were literally comprised of a few 2D mat paintings (and it showed) because that's all they could afford both money and timewise.
      So yeah. It's possible, it would be cool, but it's so expensive that I wouldn't bank on that happening, for purely practical reasons.

    • @TitanicTruths
