I'll go a few months without hearing any Andy James, but when I stumble across stuff like this, he has my undivided attention and awe. Such a melodic and rhythmic player and a joy to watch.
One of the best play throughs AJ has put out. Can't say he plays with no feelings anymore. I never did anyway. He's soooo clean. Can't say it's studio magic cause we just witnessed it... Lol. I wanna see him do avidity with or without Paul Wardingham, who is also excellent.
I bet LTD is thankful for Andy James. For a brand that you don't hear too much about, to have an endorser like AJ must be such a kick. With his ruthless, flawless playing, I know he single-handedly has compelled thousands of guitarists to respect those axes.
Perfect ,nice composition ! Put and atonic elements in improvisation and symmetric scales,such a Whole tone scale or Isotonic scale ( C D E F# G# A# C# D# F G A B ) is very expressive
jamie flexman Shit.. I'm tempted. I've got a strat and a LP, but neither of them are awesome shredders really. I see there's a few versions of these going around. Which do you prefer?
Of course it is extremely popular. It's been going around 14 years if I'm not mistaken, which is a long time in the guitar industry. I say underrated simply because many people don't realised an EC-1000 is what I call 'fully specced out', in the sense that component wise, it's as good as you can realistically get. My model in particular has.. TonePros bridge and tailpiece - (£35 each when bought separately) Sperzel locking tuners - (no longer available, but equivalent costs around £50) Earvana compensated nut - (again no longer available but equivalent around £25) Seymour Duncan JB/59 pickups - (around £140 for the pair) The only real gripe is there isn't a maple cap, just a thin flamed top/veneer.. but a guitar doesn't have to have a maple top.. besides, it still looks awesome and no two guitars are identical. Basically, that's my £900 guitar (paid £650 back in 2006). Send the parts to the US, make the cap a bit thicker, slap on a Gibson logo.. and you've doubled the price. I hear Cort make a very good LP for under a grand, likewise the Edwards models which are difficult to come by. I haven't played the newer Schecter LP's so interested what they feel like, especially as they are Korean made.
jamie flexman IDK... I've plate some ec-1000's that were great and some that were total garbage, even after setup. If you grind, you shall find, the the Japanese ESP's come perfect right out of the box. You can definitely tell. It's partly a QC issue, and partly just craftsmanship. I have an ESP eclipse and I love it, but I currently need 25.5" scales to tighten things up. On the same note, I have an old schecter Blackjack tempest that holds up against the ESP and is even better in different ways... however... I loved it so much I bought 3 more and none of them stand up. One might even sound better, but it doesn't play as well. The others just sound thin. Upon close inspection, even though they are all the same model, they measure differently! Body and neck thicknesses vary.... even the string distance between the bridge and string thru holes vary.. as well as the staggering of the holes themselves. The distance between the nut and tuners is even different! ESP just comes out perfect every time. You can buy one online without much of a problem... While LTD etc can be a crap shoot. I wouldn't buy one without playing it and AB'ing with another guitar. With that said, I just bought an LTD MH-400 to practice some music in a different tuning, and it even beat the MH1000's and anniversary models I compare it directlt against.
A guitar as high spec as an EC1000 is never a lost cause. You can always change things to get it playing and sounding just right.. anything that can't be wouldn't have made it out of the factory. Eclipses would have a higher QC simply due to less being made, thus a little more time spent ensuring they're to standard before shipping. It all depends on how much you're willing to do to get your guitar to your own standards..
I don't know man... I've been playing for about 25 years and setting my own gear up for 24. LTD fretwork and finish doesn't come close and there's lots of variation between guitars. Set up doesn't always fix it no matter what hardware is on it. Needed a guitar with EMG's in it at 25.5c scale for a project so I got a MH400 with the cheapest parts. It actually beat an MH1000 and a and BC Rich with OFR and everything... The hardware didn't do it. I even got the store to let me set up the guitars before choosing one and I walked out with the $275 one. Given that the cheaper hardware might wear out faster if I were a trem deamon, but it was fine, even though it was 10 years old and looked pretty used. Funny thing is... I picked it over an EII Horizon as well haha... Just because it sufficed... But the EII really did play like butter. I'd just never buy one online. An ESP? No problem. I just don't like the ESP Vipers because I don't vibe with them, so I can't vouch. One could be perfectly happy with an LTD, but they're not all the same. Tolerances are off and the production is much faster. ESP takes their time and obsesses over every nanometer.
I've only seen the video advertisement they put on UA-cam, and the rhythm section that was played in that is Become Numb from Wearing Scars. The lead section isn't from this song either.

Fantastic, top, great guitar man!!! The best!
The EC-1000 is such an underrated guitar. As good as any sub 2k LP if you don't care for aesthetics, branding and country of origin.
