Well, this video is just in time.
This morning, my 4 ton, 4 year old unit, that just got recharged 5 weeks ago, shut off.
I thought, well, maybe it froze up so I let it be for a couple hours. We're barely dipping into the 70s for an hour or two overnight.
I tried again.. nada and the fan will not come on either. The thermostat does light up.
None of my breakers are labeled but none look popped. I haven't flipped all 5 double pole levers since I don't know what I'd be shutting off that isn't the AC unit.
My indoor unit is in the attic, that I physically cannot get to. My filter is in the ceiling and was changed at the first of the month.
Outside was cleaned when it got recharged.
I'm not sure which ones of your solutions would take into account that the fan isn't doing it's thing either.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm not sure...I hope the recharge held. As you know there is no guarantees with that. I hope it doesn't have a refrigerant leak again. Good luck
@@HomeRapidRepair Thanks for the reply.. $75 and several hours later.. loose wire in the thermostat, which I wouldn't have felt comfortable playing with on my own.. plumbing, sure, power, not so much.
No idea why it lit up pressing the buttons with a loose wire but it's on now.
That's the standard fee with my home warranty policy... for pretty much anything.

Why would an AC unit time out?
That was incorrect. Digital thermostats have a time delay. Flashing cool will stop when the call for cooling is made.
As I’ve been told from my HVAC friends for years, if the AC unit turns off and then if you try to turn it back on too quickly, it’s terrible for the outside compressor. So the modern thermostats will have like a five minute timeout cycle built into the unit so they won’t turn back on too quickly. Great question 😊
