Yeaaaaah, total awesomeness!!!!! You finally got into the One Piece 3 volume set. Those are amazing and who rocks manga? Tek might woooohoooo! It was best to start from the very beginning compared to like say the middle. Especially seeing how far the whole series have come along too! Tek yeaaaaah!!!! More to come in the future super friends!!!!
2:00 Regarding the "One Piece manga being better than the anime": OP is an ongoing anime, meaning it has no seasons. In order to avoid catching up to the manga (unless they follow with their own plot, like the first FMA), ongoing anime will either introduce filler arcs (actual filler: things that were never in the source material and hence cannot affect the plot, like in Naruto) or find other ways to stretch the existing material (One Piece). The latter results in slow paced episodes with recaps from the previous episode, alot of still images and other tricks and little new content. Some Anime watchers have simply accepted this, others started reading the manga and prefer it. So I understand the sentiment, when people suggest the manga over trying to catch up to 1000+ anime episodes.
That being said, there is a new anime adaptation planed, which will air alongside the current one but adhere to the regular anime release seasons. So it can be more condensed in comparison. It would also be a good starting point for anyone who - understandably - says that 1000+ eps are too much for them.
