The "Haunted by ghosts of those we have lost, clinging to those that we pray we may yet save" and the "How do we make peace with the dreadful algebra of necessity" lines are absolute killers.

I love how all of our experiences with Hythlodaeus prior to Elpis is as this wise acquaintance of Emet from a far flung past. But when we see him in his day without Emmet's filter, he's a complete shitter. This dude is the clown king. He's the kind of friend that keeps everyone around him centered, weather they like it or not. The kind of friend that you're pissed at all the time, but you always know they're the one you can trust in any situation.

I chose Thancred because I thought he'd want someone to talk with about Ryne, given what we just learned that session. I wouldn't necessarily say he's my favorite but I think he needed someone to talk to in that moment :)

I know you're always apologizing for your tears and hysteria on stream, but I want you to know that the reason I watch these videos is because I relate the SAME, EXACT. WAY. and seeing somebody else feeling the same emotions and sentiments toward this game is so validating, satisfying, and assures me that I am not insane, or at least not alone. I often tell others who play FF14 that this game saved my life, and I always feel that's so dramatic, but it's true.

The whole Thavnair section with the mounting dread, first hearing about people turning into monsters, then seeing it in the dungeon, then experiencing it in a cutscene with a kid getting smushed in front of his father ... to the mother getting tossed into the water culminating in the Run ... is just excellent for me ...
During that cutscene i had like an internal battle of: Its a baby they wouldnt vs They already smushed a child wouldnt they? and as the dread mounted ... you get the D&D delivering the Dragoon + Dragon From On Hight special :D

=3 Elpis is a freight train, fully loaded and at full speed - and through your emotions it charges, shattering everything in its path. Such a fantastic experience.

If there is one thing I would recommend to anyone who was effected emotionally by the Matsya scene with the baby... Watch it in Japanese. When you have the context of how young Matsya's supposed to be with his people it makes him so much braver and the scene hit even harder.

  • @fakeplasticgamers9850
    @fakeplasticgamers9850 Рік тому +1

That whole scene with Matsya was so stressful. I was playing by myself and yet I was screaming at the screen like an insane person. I stood up and I was saying random shit like "YOSHI-P IF YOU KILL MATSYA I'M NOT PREORDERING FINAL FANTASY XVI I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD". And then when Estinien came down I took a deep breath and felt tears welling up in my eyes. At some point I thought to myself that this was just a video game, none of that was real. And yet... fuck is this game. But in a good way.

Oh man, the memories! I remember finding your twitch channel around that time.
I had chosen Alphinaud because he was the one Scion who followed us since the beginning always at our side. I think he is also the one who understands the WoL best given the events they went through together.

Okay one long two-part comment, followed by six edits. Grab some popcorn cuz this is a long one. 😳😭
    Original comment:
Number 1 the power move of G'raha stepping into his own is absolutely fantastic given the context of shadowbringers, but I love the simple depth hidden behind his wondering out loud if the people will accept Vrtra as their leader. Because he understands the level the importance of leading people that believe in you as a consequence of him being that leader for 100 years as the Crystal Exarch.
Number 2 I love the simple reveal of the power that's influencing The Final Days, especially the reveal that it's beyond our ability to perceive because all they've known in their entire society since it began was ether.
And then the trip back to The World Unsundered recontextualizes all of that and brings the entire game all the way back to before A Realm Reborn like the Allagan Empire into focus as part of a larger whole.
It's an absolute masterclass in worldbuilding.
edit 1: (I might be making several of these come back later. (Turns out I was right.))
And I also love the payoff of G'raha knowing everything about the Crystal Tower and what it was capable of but never had a use for it until now.
He's able to retain all of this information about how to summon a shade that you've imprisoned inside the tower even though he never had to do that, as far as we know, during his time as the Crystal Exarch.
    edit 1 pt. 2
Some could call this type of writing lazy as we're just pulling something out of thin air to allow the plot to move forward. But I think it's more impressive that they basically wrote all of this "unkown" knowledge into a single character's head, containing all of the knowledge about a specific thing, and them being the only one who knows all of that leaves the writers a lot of freedom to do stuff like this while still maintaining a level of believability.
He is the only living person in existence who would know something like that, so we as the player don't even question that it's possible.
edit 2 (yup here we go! ( it was at this point that I realized what I had gotten myself into.))
Picture yourself as Elidibus. He fought tooth and nail against you at every step of the way to bring about the order that he wanted but still lost. You reawakening him puts a massive question mark in his mind because to him it's over. But when you explain to him that the first final days had a reason it all of a sudden recontextualizes the entire sundering in his mind to something that may have been necessary to stave off something even more sinister. And because your soul is the same color as a certain someone that he knows, he understands on a deep level that this is what she would have wanted.
We can make a pretty strong assumption that every very member of the convocation knew Venat. So your soul being the same color as her means a lot to these people because it reminds them of what happened and that there might potentially be a better way than simply hitting Control+Z ( hence why Emet helps you in Shadowbringers.)
And let's keep in mind that none of this hits as hard as it does if you didn't play all the way through from ARR all the way up to this point.
And then the reveal that the flower was named after a place. Not to mention the effort that must have been put in on Venat/Hydaelyn's part to ensure that the flower had that name and that she would be able to get you, "her WoL" to a place where you would be able to interact with it and figure out what it does all tying back to a specific place where a couple people _lost their memory._
Plus the connection of Elidibus having seen you there tying it all together.
    edit 3
It's my belief that when Hythlodaeus tells Emet to "Show us your lovely face" that it's a subtle way for the writers to either take a dig at the programmers for not having shown us what he looks like yet, or just acknowledging all of the fans who wanted to see what he actually looks like.
    edit 4
    39:29
And in this moment, two friends on a routine inspection stumble across small individual whose soul has the same color as someone they know, and set them off on the roller coaster of their lives.
    edit 5
And Metieon's first simple words neatly undersell the importance of what just happened. _Someone_ just walked in, and we don't know who it is but they're here.
Also bet you didn't notice they were hiding a raid boss under the floorboards ;)
Another great example of leaving certain things unknown just to pull them out of a completely reasonable and believable spot while simultaneously adding content to the game.
edit 6 (last one, and aren't we all glad it's here. 😂)
Estinien's speech really hits home when you pull in the context of his final speech before sacrificing himself in Ultima Thule.
He wasn't sure what we were about at first, but now he's come to understand what must be done in matters of crisis by seeing all of the people around him doing it for so long, and he's finally ready to sacrifice himself knowing that he helped make a difference in the long run.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk, and just remember: "It's both the journey, _and_ the friends you make along the way."
    ❤️

Emet is so done with Azem's bullshit lol. To the point as soon as he sees your character with the same soul colour he just wants to ignore it because if it's Azem something is definitely going to happen and it will probably be annoying.
